Clinton coach

If you had a growing family and were a young coach, money has to be a major factor. As much as coaches love football, they have to take care of their family first. This decision to leave Clinton was made long ago.
Agree. Again not to imply anything on my part that I know what went in to the coach’s decision, but you don’t walk away from 10 years or so of state system income step and retirement credits w/o having a longterm plan, and one which apparently doesn’t include staying at a small rural NC high school. Just not seeing any “ bad guys” or losers in this situation.

I just meant, I didn't see it announced. I'm not surprised he's leaving, although I thought he might get the Clinton job. I wish he would come home to Reidsville.

He may find out that there is more to it in South Carolina than making more money. They will expect to win big and do it now. Some of the other coaches that tried that didn’t fare to well. He had a great program going at Clinton. Could be hard to duplicate somewhere else. Those at Clinton need to be careful not to let the drama surrounding a coach leaving for more money to cause more harm to the program that is still there.
Will he be going up against Tommy Knotts? Hope not

Surprised myself he wouldnt stay and get that potential HC experience, unless he knew he wouldnt get it.

And he doesnt need to come back to Reidsville, they have enough coaches LOL

I was told about these probable changes at halftime of the state championship game and asked not to discuss it on these message boards until it became public knowledge and that is what I have done.

My count is five former Scotland HS assistants have resigned within the last few days

•Clinton HC Cory Johnson
•Lumberton HC Dennis McFatten
•Chambers AHC Hashan Tyson
•Pine Forest AD/AP Lonnie Cox
•Clinton DC Ryan Hunt

Could the "band" be getting back together somewhere???
All
Announced tonight at the
Marlboro county school
Board
Meeting

Here’s my two cents.

As far as a reidsville return for Ryan, that went away the moment Teague was hired back. Everyone with any sense knew he would hand it off to Eric. Ryan wants to be a head coach and Eric would have to leave coaching early for Ryan to be a head coach and return to Reidsville.

Having said that, I was excited and apprehensive when he went to Clinton. With the history of the program, I would have been happy if he never left Clinton. But as we saw this year, it also meant he would have to play Reidsville.

If coaching was only about 7:30 pm on Friday night, life would be much simpler. But you have to deal with 8-3 Monday thru Friday and all the other hours away from the job. I will leave all that speculative talk alone.

I enjoyed my trips to Clinton and perhaps I might return with the rams someday. Few games will top the finish of St Paul’s 2022.

I’d like to give a great deal of thanks to Clark for all he did for Ryan and the program. I really appreciate all the kindness shown to Ryan by the superintendent following his accident.

Go Horses.

I hadn’t posted on this thread - but didn’t someone from Clinton all-but guarantee that this guy was staying? Doubled down on it quite a few times too - IIRC.

NC just cannot compete with that SC $$$ - plain and simple.

Curious if the former Scotland lineman Karfa Kaba mentioned in the article is any relation to the standout linebacker that found his way to Clinton early in Johnson's tenure at Clinton and then attended South Carolina?

Recruiting coordinator huh? Would be interesting to know how many schools actually have that as a position. Maybe they call it something else at other locations?

Anyone else have a recruiting coordinator on staff? Never heard of that before.

I have seen it listed at several larger schools. At first I thought the worse, but found out it’s real purpose.

Appreciate the info. Interesting title to say the least on a high school staff.

Maybe its something new that like many things has past me by in recent years. Would still be interested in how many schools have this type of position in NC.

I would assume(maybe I'm wrong) to recruit the hallways, maximize the potential at the school. Alot of talented kids just walking the halls not playing anything.

We've almost turned the word recruit into a curse word these days.

See Drawplay000 post above. He explains it.

Yes, I saw his explanation. I am asking now how many schools actually have this position based on that job description.

Chopper's description of the position sounds like what most coaches do now.

You need someone to talk to the coaches when they come in and talk to your kids. Its not always the head coach that does this. Also, someone connected to college coaches, its a lot that could entail. Like chopper said you guys have turned it into a derrogatory term.

The bigger question nowadays is will he finish his college career where he starts it at… Good luck to him wherever he ends up but Florida and Auburn both slipping in the SEC

Is this reverse psychology, because you dont want to get beat by 40 points again? He seems to have gotten more opportunities for kids than those at your school. Just saying.
absolutely not reverse psycology, if any of what I heard was going on with him there and what he was doing while still being an active football coach at Clinton is true then yes i stand by my comments.

specifically, what is going on with him? what is he doing wrong?

A recruiting coordinator like someone already mentioned is basically your liaison between kids/parents and colleges. They help players with their hudl highlights, sit in those meetings with kids and college scouts/coaches, help players with camp/combine info etc. judging by the number of players Clinton sent to colleges during Johnson’s tenure at Clinton I would assume it’s a good idea to have one and I’m not talking about the power 5 signings. For a young Coach like Hunt helps build those relationships with colleges probably benefit him in the long run whenever he becomes a head coach.

And seeing a post about drama over the past 6 years of Johnson at Clinton. Outside of drama on NC Preps what drama was their at the school/town caused by Johnson? I know we like to think NC Preps is the real world but it’s just a message board. Just because a poster on preps has an issue with him I doubt that counts as causing the school/town drama. So again outside of this last week or two what drama did he cause? Everything I’m seeing and the out pouring of love and support shows a great deal of people liked him and are going to miss him in Clinton.

Seems like every time a coach leaves a "top" school, the problems come out. Mount Airy fans were the same way. Everyone was fine with the coach until he leaves so either there wasn't that much wrong being done or your character can be persuaded as long as your school is winning. Seems like a lot of people need to take a long look in the mirror or stop bashing people because they want better for themselves.

I mentioned in an earlier post things that other Clinton posters posted on this message boards in the past.

As best I can recall, there was something about visitors at practice and possibly videoing the goings on during his first season. I guess it worked for Coach Norman Dail and the Hickory Huskers in Hoosiers, so maybe that was the thought behind it, I also recall "official" Clinton football social media pages and what was "official" and what was not. Even a long time Clinton radio guy had an apparent disagreement with the coach (also alluded to).

Other posters in this thread have explained, albeit in vague details other things that were questionable. I also asked a question about about a coach that will be on the Marlboro staff and if he was any relation to a 5 star linebacker that just happened to find his way on a Clinton roster early in Johnson's tenure only to be followed by other 4 and 5 star athletes transfers from other schools that will be playing D1 next season. We arent talking about a metro area like Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh or even Wilmington but little ole Clinton NC getting these types of athletes.

One other thing that was mentioned that may or might not be true. Was the former coach escorted off campus last Friday? Is that common practice when a coach announces his resignation? If so, could that be considered "drama".

Again, I have no first hand knowledge and am not the only poster with these questions. Perhaps actual Clinton posters (who are still in the greater Clinton and Sampson County area) can expand on these events and provide greater detail. If not, maybe they are just ready to move on.

"Heard"

That’s the key word, not FACTS.
I am not going to allow it. Not even sure if you are a Clinton supporter.

Ram fans hope for the best for Ryan in his coaching journey. Good dude from a good family.

If his desire is to be a HC, why would he not stick around and apply for the Clinton job? Things that bad there now?

$$$ He gonna make more in his current position in SC then he would at a 2A high school in NC. Plus I mean would he really had a shot at the job in Clinton being linked to Johnson who by the way I still haven’t seen a bad thing he’s done the stuff named before seemed pretty minimum personal gripes of a couple of posters. I see why the Wallace folks are glad he is gone seems he had their number. The way y’all were talking I was thinking something newsworthy. I mean was he that bad? Wasn’t he vetted by Jeff Sawvel who is well known and well respected football mind. And Richard Bailey holds him in really high esteem. Idk some of this stuff up here seems silly just from an outsiders perspective.

And I’m guessing it was being implied that he was illegally recruiting players if so was their an investigation? I’m guessing if their was no wrongdoing found cause I haven’t read anything about Clinton having to vacate any wins over the past 6 years.
