Across all classifications, Shelby sets the bar on sustained success.

We posted on Friday that it was Shelby's 10th Western Final in the last 13 years. That's #1 in the state. With the win over Lincolnton, the Golden Lions go to the Championship for the 7th time in the last 12 years. That is #1 in the state. We point this out to factually demonstrate the dominance of the program recently. But there is more....

This 3-peat of Title Game appearances marks the FIFTH DECADE OF THE LAST SIX DECADES IN WHICH SHELBY HAS GONE THREE YEARS IN A ROW.

68 69 70
74 75 76
86 87 88
04 05 06 07
13 14 15

The 90s merely had a "repeat", 97 98.

This isn't bragging. This is remarkable.

That's nice. Very big toward being a or the football power. Shelby is alpha dog. BUT, HERE IT COMES. Shelby nor Reidsville can claim the state titles each have proclaimed. Why- there was no state title prior to 1976 or 1977. They were half titles or regional titles. You can't count WNCHSAA titles if they didn't include the east. Nor can Reidsville, or any other program.

So when people list state titles it should include years when their were split organizations before the merger.

The sad thing is, if the cycle holds true, we're about to go through about a 6 year drought. Oh, well. We'll enjoy it while its here.

We will chose to ignore this new guy trying to stir up trouble.

Miles....I don't think we will be seeing that trend this time around. We have some monster athletes coming over the next several years to the varsity program. We'll only have to replace 2 defensive players from this year and a handful of offensive players. Borders, Fuller, Brooks, Truck, Etchinson (sp), LA's son more than likely falling in the qb spot....a couple of OLs coming back. We should be pretty stout next year. It's fun to be a Golden Lion.

(don't tell them I told you but heard the Crest talent will be dry for a few years with the exception of a couple athletes....we shall see if it's just a rumor)

Stop the presses I absolutely agree with 98 here ! A lot of talent coming up in the next few years and we have a very good crop coming back next season as well

We are blessed have to have such a good crop of athletes

Far as Crest goes, I hope so. Tired of them beating us.

Yeah, I think we'll be pretty strong for the next few years, just noticed the gaps above.

Not as long as they are able to get players from other schools. Crest and Shelby have the monopoly on recruiting and players "moving" to their schools. If kids don't transfer KM will be the team in CC for the next 4-6 years. But wait and see how many leave for Shelby and Crest. It's bad when driver's ed car is used to transport kids from KM district to another school (Not Shelby) for practice. Just saying... Go ahead and whine. Truth hurts! State does not have the guts to do anything about it though and Funderburke as CC AD is a figurehead with 0 power to rule a kid ineligible for transferring without legitimate and legal relocation.

The NCHSAA does not do investigations. The LEA has the reponsibility to investigate and report findings to the NCHSAA.

I'm always interested in the differences among school districts regarding residency, transfers and athletic eligibility. What's the policy in Cleveland County?

This is getting ridiculous. You realize Shelby has been dominating for over a century now....does that mean we've "been able to get players from other schools" for that long?

Our QB the last two years moved over from Crest...both his parents went to Shelby.
The player that moved from Burns this year....both his parents went to Shelby.
Camp moved over from ER....he has bounced around several high schools over the past 4 years...while I agree this is wrong and he should stay put unless there is a serious need to move...should he not be allowed to play athletics his senior year?

I hope no one leaves KM...I want to see them win a state championship. Something to keep in mind...Shelby has a lot of sophomores starting on the Varsity meaning they didn't play on the JV team this year. In other words...I wouldn't hold much stock in this year's KM JV win over Shelby JV.

Cleveland County Student Athlete Transfer Policy: Statute 1A-7643, Article 3, Ammendment 1: "Any student athlete that shows a single shred of talent reserves the right to transfer to Crest or Shelby. We don't mind. We actually prefer it."

Cleveland, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Gaston, Cabbarus, and Union counties pool players and draw straws for best picks. Chester, Lancaster, and Cherokee counties in South Carolina also share in the pool.

j/k.......kinda. I think the economy and jobs moves people around more often than in the past so kids tend to switch schools. People switch jobs ever 3-5 years and sometimes the switch requires a move.

Yea that is gonna happy. Funderburke does not have a set big enough to check and make Shelby or Crest have to forfeit games. Camp still lives in Forest City with his Dad. Used someone his Mom knows for address claiming he is living with her. Even has Forest City on his recruiting page from a recruiting website. Crest has one that lives in Bostic. Just uses other parent's address. Rutherford County too involved in their fight with Thomas Jefferson and their computers to put up a fight. Sure would be interesting if the NCHSAA quit worrying about money and started being an effective ruling body.

The NCHSAA is an effective ruling body. They are not an investigative body just as they do not have one rule for all systems such as transfers, magnets, gpa, et al. Those are some things I would like to see looked at closer.

The day the NCHSAA accepted the first private school, it lost its ability to have a fair and consistent eligibility rule. But I understand how complex the issue can be.
I live in the Davidson County school district, but both of my children attended the Thomasville school system from their first day of kindergarten. We live in the Thomasville city limits, but not in the district. We went through the proper protocol, including getting a release letter for each child every year and paying a small tuition fee to Thomasville. My wife and I made that decision for a lot of reasons, but none had to do with sports. Ultimately, my kids had a fair amount of athletic success. But far more importantly, they had academic success.
So, before I throw rocks, I acknowledge that there are legitimate circumstances for some cross-district transfers.
Having said that, in my mind, transferring solely for athletics epitomizes much of what is wrong with many schools. We tend to ignore lack of academic progress, poor behavior and character, and sometimes drug abuse. All for the sake of having athletic prowess.
I love my high school sports. But we definitely have the tail wagging the dog in many schools and systems.

LEA should allow students to transfer purely for academic reasons. All athletic eligibility should be verified by the state. If a school has a player "move into their district", then the legitimacy of the transfer should be vetted by the state. The parents should appeal to the state with various forms of documentation to validate the transfer (i.e. change of address on bills with the parents' and legal "custodial" guardians" names, change of address on a proper form of ID). This would not eliminate any recruiting however. Also, in my opinion, Charter schools should be made to play in Independent / Private School League or play up a division in the playoffs due to their ability to minimize their enrollment to stay at a certaIn classification and also their ability to recruit.

"does not have a set big enough to check and make Shelby or Crest have to forfeit games."

Funny, I seem to remember Crest having to forfeit a few years ago.

Every LEA is different. Some follow the rules, some could care less. Some have a county AD tied to a school in his control. There are no NCHSAA police. Unless they get a self reported occurrence there will be no investigation. The investigation is conducted by the LEA. The 365 day rule is a farce. Just submit the hardship paperwork and its done. The only two schools I know of that truly make a sports participant wait 365 days are the two getting slammed every year for being a private, Catholic and Cardinal Gibbons.

I can see why parents switch their kids to better programs. Both for academics and sports. I would hope they change residences and follow the rules but if you have a superstar kid who plays QB and they want to make him a guard at his base school I would grab an apartment in another district. If my kid was going to a school with poor academics I would do the same. The ultimate goal is to put your kid in the best position to succeed. But yes, the rules should be followed and a fair playing field established within the set of rules defined by the NCHSAA.

If Cleveland County is truly a big problem then there is a way to change it. Get behind two or three candidates for the school board and feverishly campaign for them. Then when they get in fire the people that have allowed the practice.

Actually Camp lives with his mom and step dad in Shelby district by the YMCA.
Funny how East players have said they see him at his Dad's everyday and pass him driving to Shelby every morning. Sad thing is Shelby didn't need him. Truth comes out you're winless and paying fine. Heard from some that they even have pics. Looks like somebody may be growing a pair.Heard an East parent also has pic of East player on Crest sideline during a playoff game, Guess they have all of Burns and KM they want and looking at other counties now like they did with QB from Chase years ago.

Funny well not really

I'm watching football Friday night and Tom Brown is on there with coach Lloyd from KM

They are talking about the teams in the title games being cyclical ! Delano mentions how Crest and Shelby are always there and Tom Brown throws this in there

" We have to play them ! And we don't get all the transfers they get"

He must be reading this thread or still smarting after we put up 55 points 481 yards passing and seven tds in the first half

You don't know what the **** you're talking about. Calvin Camp stays in my neighborhood of Delta Park Apartments next to the YMCA. He stays w/ his mom and step dad. Believe you me, I see the kid very often. Truthhurts? Butthurts is a more appropriate name for you, it appears.

And by the way, Butthurts, former Burns player, and basketball standout, Malik Hamrick, is at East Rutherford now, He played football and is now playing playing basketball. Why don't you talk about the dynamics of his situation? Lol... *winks eye
I am not an East fan. Burns is the team that has been screwed over more than anyone. I agree. Hamrick should be checked out by state just like several others on Shelby and Crest. If you don't have anything to hide invite the NCHSAA to check it out. Tell Shelby and Crest to take the lead in developing a policy for the state to validate all transfers then there are no arguments. Don't reply if you are not welcoming validation or it is nothing more than an admission of guilt. Just saying....

I have witnessed the school board meetings that discussed these transfers. It's not nearly as big of a deal as the sore losers want it to be.

And speaking of Burns, did they not have a kid the previous season who transferred in from Gaffney and became a defensive standout for them? I know Tominique Watkins, who started as a corner for them this season, transferred in from Shelby a couple years ago. No one discussed this, because no one gave a damn. And speaking of Malik Hamrick, he was denied at Shelby last year. Transfers are more abundant now, period.
