2019 ECC predictions

am going with Wrh and Clinton to battle it out for the crown. Both returns a bunch of talent. I think ED finishes 3rd. Heard they are small but has some speed. Battle will have them ready. It’s pretty much a toss up the rest of the way. Player of the year no doubt goes to Mohammed Kaba. Hope my tarheels continue to pursue this kid and hopefully flip him. Lets get your thoughts!!

WRH will win 1st the backfield is just loaded and I am interested to see how much Roberts has grown in year 2, although I would not be shocked at all if Clinton wins it. Im going to say Goldsboro pulls 3rd place out of nowhere based on the fact JK has to make the trip to Goldsboro, they had the athletes last year to contend for first just not the leadership. JK will get 4th, ED 5th and Midway with a dead last.

I also think the battle for the crown will be a tossup between Clinton and W-RH. Clinton will definitely have the defense, but the offense isn't yet proven, I'm thinking as of right now the Horses will be running back-by-committee. Wallace's backfield will be loaded, as DC Tiger said, but I'm not sure who's coming back on defense. Here's my take:

1. Clinton (because I'm biased LOL)
2. Wallace
3. Goldsboro
4. I'm going with ED, because they're ED.
5, JK
6. Midway, simply because Spring Creek is not playing in conference.

This will be yet another exciting season in the SEC of 2A football.

Unless ED has gotten some transfers that y'all know about that I haven’t heard of I don’t see how they finish anywhere higher than 4th. Yes Battle Is an amazing football coach no doubt about it but I didn’t think they had anything coming back or any athletes this year.

Losing the QB won’t hurt us bad enough to give Midway a snow balls chance in hell of finishing 5th

Clinton lost a coach to Goldsboro this year. He will be the DC I believe. Can’t remember his name but when I interviewed Coach Johnson last week he raved about that coach and how great of an impact he will have to Goldsboro and their program.

Our first competition in the non conference will be the Richlands game. I have heard Richlands will beat SWO this year. 3 weeks to establish a QB and find a groove on offense. It’s just encouraging to know we won’t start the season off 0-1 this year.

He is a very good coach and I think we are lucky to have him. We have two guys that I know of that can make plays, some unknowns will have to step up. QB has me extremely worried I wouldn’t be shocked if 3 QB’s play the first game of season. We should be decent stopping the run against the teams we play to start season. Will have to drastically improve by the time we are playing Clinton and WRH

No you can’t teach raw talent that kids come in with, but you can teach skill, technique, and coach up the awareness of players. The skill, technique, and awareness that these kids are shown DOES win games and DOES directly reflect what they have and are being taught by the coaching staff.

I see that 3 ECC teams will be mixing it up on the 14th at JK in the DC Jamboree. Glad that the schools are getting together and doing this. DC has needed this to happen for a long time. Good that North Duplin will be there as well. Anyone heard of what format will be used and who’s matching up with who?

Based on what I saw in the paper, ND will only scrimmage Dixon while WRH, JK and ED will rotate with South Columbus, Laney and South Lenoir. Then at the end of the scrimmages, the Duplin schools will participate in a 1st and Goal contest. WRH vs ND and JK vs ED with the two winners squaring off in the finals.

Supposedly House of Raeford is a big sponsor and giving away free chicken sandwiches as long as they last. I agree that it is good to see the county schools do this for football as they have done with baseball and basketball for a long time. I think the plan is to rotate the host school each year. Should be a huge turnout and good money maker for the high school athletic programs in the county.

JK QB situation is good, two QB's that can pass and run. I think they both are sophomores. If JK can get some linemen (offensive), when school starts, they might surprise some people. But as of right now the biggest problem is depth, and experience. This may be the deepest freshman class I've seen at JK since the mid 2000s.

Glad that we finally have a good amount of freshman coming out. Some of those freshman had family members that played at JK that were good athletes. I think the underclassmen are finally starting to show up for Clark. I’d love to see the QB whoever it may be, be able to give us at least 80 yards on the ground a game
