Panthers hold & force the punt, Panther take over on their 38 with 2:01 left.

Panthers drive the field again but run out of time and are picked off in the endzone. Cougars will run out the clock & win 34-20. Congrats to Asheville! Was a little sloppy at times but as the year progresses both teams have a lot of room to grow. Really impressed with both teams.

SW Edgecombe 37 Edenton Holmes 27

I looked at our schedule this summer and when I saw Holmes, I got worried. This is a team that has gone 20-7 over the past two seasons, including a 3rd round, 11-3 campaign last year. This is a team that had 3 backs average over 1,300 yards last season. Granted, they graduated, but that type of production starts up front. And, it was not just an away game, but essentially a road trip for us. I saw so many W's on the schedule, but I was comfortable putting an L next to this one. Felt as if we don't go 11-0, we'll go 10-1, with this being the 1. But SWE flexed its muscles early and often and came away from the northeast with a solid 37-27 victory, and if u were there, you would know that it wasn't even that close.

Edenton got the ball first, and my nephew and Grimsley tranfer, starting OLB #22 Raquan White, (FYI, I will be bragging on him all season...suck it up) opened the game with the tackle. Add two more team TFL, and the Aces punt away. My Cougars then drove 65 yards in businesslike fashion for the season's first score. 7-0. After another three and out by Holmes, which included two more TFL, we have have our own three and out. An excellent punt to the ten is called back and the second punt hits a lineman and is recovered by the Aces at our 25. They make us pay for the mistake with a touchdown. 7-7. That's the score to end the first.

The first play of the second sees SWE's stud rb Marcus Williams take it in from 45 out, but holding brings it back. We stall and have to settle for a 35 yard fg. Edenton gets the ball at their 37, but after a three and out, their punt attempt is thwarted by a high snap, which they fall on in the end zone for a SWE safety. 12-7. On the ensuing possession happened perhaps the play of the season already. Cougar qb Tucker Pridgen drops back for a pass at the Holmes 40, scrambles backwards, takes a clean hit, in which several Holmes players stop playing because they thought they had the sack, but Pridgen keeps his balance and dumps it off to Williams, who rides a convoy of blockers to the 5. It was awesome to see! However, the Ace's goal line defense says "not so fast" and keeps the Cougars at bay, forcing another fg. 15-7. Riding the momentum of the defense, the Aces take the ensuing possession 70 yards to punch it in right before halftime. Blocked PAT. Would have been nice to not give them that confidence going into the locker room, but this team is coming off an 11-3 season for a reason. They are good. The half is SWE 15 Holmes 13.

At this point, we are clearly dominating. Our d line is racking up no gain and TFL and we are efficiently reaching the red zone. The problem is, the scoreboard doesn't reflect it.

We get the ball to open the half and run 44 yards on the first play to the Ace 29. Before you can come back from the bathroom, we score from 4 yard out to up the numbers to 22-13. On the kick off, we boot it short and high, meeting the ball. It takes one bounce on the turf and it caught in stride by SWE. Had the rules allowed for advancement, we would have scored. Unfortunately, holding kills this drive and we punt. Another three and out by Edenton forces them to punt, where they promptly snap it out of the end zone for another safety. 24-13. We get the ball, chunk off two huge runs, and Williams takes it in from 3 to make it 31-13. End of third.

If you quit, you've already lost, and Edenton did not quit. They tack on a 50 yard TD run to make it 31-19, and then force us to punt. After they receive the ball, my nephew forces a fumble which is recovered by us at our 40. Marcus Williams then runs it for 50, down to the 10. On the next play, he carries it in.....nooooo, he fumbles at the 1, and Holmes recovers it for the touchback. They fight and score on a 45 yard scamper and tack on the two, and it's now 31-27! Fortunately, SWE puts the game away with a 25 yard Williams TD run and an int to close it out.

We played an excellent opponent and won at their place. It was by ten, but we left 5 tds on the field....the two fgs where they stopped us near the 10, the Williams TD that was called back, the Williams fumble near the one, and there was even a defensive TD in which everyone except the refs saw that the offensive player was not down first. Take those two fgs away and and the five tds, and we showed that we could have hung over 60 on them. The offense will NOT be a problem this season. And if the defense plays like they did today against the rest of the schedule, 11-0 is very possible. Edenton was a top tier opponent and was very much so one of the two or three toughest ones we will face. We still have Washington and Tarboro.

Orange High's Lemaster

Oh well I'm the type of guy who likes to knock em' down
Where other teams are well, they know that I'm around
I hit em' and I beat 'em 'cause to me they're all the same
I'll bite and I slug 'em and then I tell all my name
They call me the Lemaster yeah the Lemaster
'Mo' moves me around around around

There's sideline on my left, there's sideline on my right
And folks in between I'll be a beating on tonight
And 'Mo' asks which team that I love the best
I tear open my shirt I got a Panther on my chest
'Cause I'm Lemaster yeah the Lemaster
I roam around around around

Oh well I roam from town to town
Who 'Mo's scheduling I dont care
He's as happy as a clown
Cause we play anybody and we play em' anywhere

I'm the type of guy that likes that hittin' sound
I hit my own folks when there no one else around
And when I find myself playin' like a girl
I hit myself in the head and like Godzilla attack the world
Yeah I'm the Lemaster yeah the Lemaster
I hunt em' down down down

Is the SPC title already on the line next week?

I realize that it's ridiculous to pose such a question for this early in the season, but it's also unusual to have a conference game before the month of September....Nonetheless, the Bessemer City Yellowjackets who have either won or shared the SPC title the last 3 years will travel to first-year SPC member Mountain Island Charter on August 28th....Ordinarily, folks would scoff at such a notion that a first year program would have a chance against a 3-time regining champ but as most folks already know, or have read, Mountain Island Charter isn't your typical first year varsity program that is low on expectations, and their head coach stated as much prior to the season....Mixed with that enthusiasm, is a roster that consist of a couple of Preseason All-State players in Sr. WR Connor O' Donnell and Jr. DB/Ath Aapri Washington, so the Raptors seemingly have the talent to compete for SPC honors in their very first season, and the answer should come this coming friday in their first-ever SPC game against the reigning 14' SPC champs....

I'm sure the Community School of Davidson and Pine Lake Prep will have a lot to say this year as both those teams return quite a few talented players, especially CSOD who returns Sr. RB Joey Bernardini who rushed for over 2100yds and 29TDs last season....CSOD will host Mountain Island Charter on Sept 25th in another crucial matchup in the SPC....

Just curious to what SPC members think about having to play conference games this early in the season, and who they expect to contend for the conference title this year?

Opinions and Comments are welcomed!

Best defensive/offensive coordinators of week 1

here it goes week 1 award for best DC is the OC of PSHS. only scoring 0 points, plus being a offensive genius that will bring a spread offense to the school. 9 completions on 20 plus attempts, with 9 first downs.

The best OC of week 1 is the DC for PSHS. helping pine forest too look like a 4a powerhouse. Letting a running back get 160 yards on the ground.

Don't worry guys every school started last night with 0 points. However, they just didn't finish with 0 points. Let's get ready for Red Springs! In two weeks we have scored 2 points and giving up 48 points. Yes one was a scrimmage.

Let's hope we can get the awards again!

Players hater ball!

Mt Paran 42 Erwin 35

Erwin loses a heartbreaker in the final seconds to a very good team. I witnessed a qb go from a good player last year to a star this year. Damien Ferguson had 5 td passes and well over 100yd rushing. The really bad part is he got hurt pretty bad on the last play. Not sure what his status is right now. I was really impressed with Erwin's offense. They need to fix some things defensively though. I now agree with you Asheville guys about this game helping Erwin later on. We will see very few teams like that in the mtns.

W. Rowan @ Mooresville

Last year the Blue Devils beat the brakes off the Falcons in Mt Ulla. But Mooresville lost almost their entire offense to graduation. WR begins a new era under HC Joe Nixon this season and you can bet your house that those returning Falcons want themselves some Blue Devil blood this time around. HC Hal Capps will do his level best to have Mooresville prepared. Expect a packed house at The Popp this Friday. I'll give Mooresville a slight homefield advantage, just to pick a side.

Wake me when this is over SWO

During the off season I tried my best to say all the right things. Okay let's start with the offense. No speed and we are in the same offense which is built for speed, sorry it just will not work. Defense is solid, but is only really solid for two reason. Jimmie Taylor (VT) commit is as good as advertised, 2nd reason is because we dont face many passing teams and we can stop the run okay. First time ever I have to say we are not a good team. I love my Stallions and we will get better, but we are talking years, Young young team playing a grown man schedule.

Braves update

Braves had a good win against a very athletic team. Play was about like I expected. Flashes of brilliance along with the youthful inexperience showing up at times. Nothing fancy. Up the middle and around the end, with a few scattered passes thrown in! Defense was really good. Kept the QB on the run all night long. Delivered some bruising hits!! Going to be a fun bunch to watch this year!

Forsyth County Predictions Thread, Week 1

The 2015 season is finally here, as most teams tee it up this week in what each hopes will be a season ending in mid-December in Winston-Salem, Raleigh or Chapel Hill with the State Championship held high. The last time a team from Forsyth County won a football title was in 2002 when Carver took home the 3A title. So without further delay, here they are, the first week of picks for games involving teams from Forsyth County.

Here's the standard disclaimer... None of my picks are meant to slander any particular school, coach, player, etc. Enjoy the picks, and feel free to chime in with your picks. Don't forget... I have never picked and will never pick against my own team.

Christ School at Atkins
Atkins hosts a Christ School team that will make the two hour trek from Asheville. I have no real handle on this one, so I'll take Atkins in a squeaker.

Atkins 23, Christ School 18

Bishop McGuinness at Community School of Davidson
I'm giving the edge to the Villains.

Bishop McGuinness 20, CS Davidson, 14

East Forsyth at Mt. Tabor
A heavyweight slugfest in week one. This one should be played in mid-November, not in late August.

East Forsyth 35, Mt. Tabor 28

Glenn at North Forsyth
The Bobcats make the trip to the Northside to take on the Vikings at Nifong-Crafford Stadium. Sadly, it will be the first NF game that legendary coach Gene Bowles will not be a part of. I see the Vikings taking the big W in memory of Coach Bowles.

North Forsyth 30, Glenn 21

Northeast Guilford at Parkland
The Mustangs are stuck in the middle of the most unproductive span in program history, as they have lost 22 straight games. The last Parkland win came on Oct. 26, 2012, 21-19 over Southwest Guilford.

Northeast Guilford 28, Parkland 14

R.J. Reynolds at Southwest Guilford
The Demons have sturuggled mightily over the past two seasons, but I see them taking a close one in week one.

R.J. Reynolds 24, Southwest Guilford 17

Reagan at South Iredell
The Raiders make the trip to the north shore of Lake Norman to take on the Vikings. Reagan has a high-octane offense, but can they replace their stud QB, which made the Raider scoring machine go?

Reagan 35, South Iredell 24

Walkertown at Rockingham County
The Wolfpack open the 2014 season with a convincing win.

Walkertown 42, Rockingham County 21

West Forsyth at A.C. Reynolds
Another game involving traditional powers. This should be a dandy.

West Forsyth 28, A.C. Reynolds 27

Dudley at Carver
My apologies for omitting this game in my initial post. This game has always meant a lot to both schools, as they both have proud traditions, but Dudley looks to be too powerful for Carver.

Dudley 33, Carver 21
