NC has 2 Parade All-America Football POY candidates

There are only 10 candidates for Parade Magazine's National Football Player of the Year Award. For North Carolina to have one would be a big deal in itself. However, both Chazz Surratt of East Lincoln and Rico Dowdle from AC Reynolds are among the finalists. Only California has two nominees as well.

This announcement comes on the heels of Surratt being named 2015-2016 Gatorade NC Player of the Year and Dowdle getting a spot on the NC Shrine Bowl team.

Congratulations to them both and hopefully one of them will receive this honor.

#2 SW Edgecombe 56 Fairmont 12

I guess it's time to stop talking, isn't it? It's been a loooong week, but gametime is here, and the weather couldn't be better. Third round last year has fingers and toes wondering if the rest of the body has lost its mind, but tonight I debated whether or not I should bring my jacket. I hope for injury free games tonight, but as for our game, here is why I think we will win: 40 and 94. Those are the strength of schedules for SWE and Fairmont, respectively. There are 99 2A teams, I think. While we have two 3 win, one 2 win, and one 1 win team on our schedule, we have also defeated a 10 and a 12 win team too. Fairmont's best total win victory came against Red Springs 8-4 Red Springs, whose strength of schedule is a mighty 96 out of 99. 11-2 official record, but 10-3 on the field. The only good team they played (northside) blew them out. And losing to a 4-7 team isn't good. 3,300 yards of passing is awesome, but I think we get to their qb often. Plus this field is muddy. I don't think routes will be crisp. If they have to run, it's over. Well...here we go!

Isn't it time for 4 total state champs again?

You look at the number of blowouts, in state championship games no less, and how watered down the overall playoffs are and it's just really showing how diluted HS football is as a whole.
Everyone knows WHY they want 8 "state champs" - money and job security for coaches - but the sport is suffering because of that.

HS football has become so bad in a lot of ways. The pairing/matchups of teams in the first two rounds is often ridiculous (one 5-7 team, one 9-3 team or whatever). It's not until the third round until you're guaranteed you'll see a legit contender on either side...and there are many games where you could argue that it doesn't happen even then.

With the onset of the concussion stuff ramping up, and doctors/insurance people covering their butts with clipboards, and lawyers putting on a napkin over top their tie readying themselves for the feast...there has to be a fine line of how much playoff football is played. Let the games mean something. We need that now more than ever.

On a side note, I wish NC would hold their state football games during the same weekend at two close venues that make sense, in a central part of the state.
If done in Charlotte, you could have UNCC and Memorial stadium host all games ( in present day...8 total). If we ever got back down back to 4 legit state champ winners, all 4 games could be played at a single venue. Charlotte has the hotels, sights and easy access from the entire state. It'd be great if the kids were given Thurs-Sat championship "weekends" with 2 games on Friday, and 2 games on Saturday.
Wake Forest/W-S area would also be a nice area to consider.

From a Southern Durham Fan Congrats to Shelby Crest on winning the 3AA Title

Well what else can I say. I knew it was a uphill battle coming in but I will definitely not sit back and let anyone trash talk and disrespect my squad so I definitely fired back. Unfortunately for us we got our tails whipped by the better team period bottom line. No excuses whatsoever there are a lot of Southern fans around me talking about our QB being out bottom line is you play with what you have and it wasn't enough Crest handled business you will never ever hear any whining of excuses from me period. Charger fans you guys should be proud and you all have my respect you are the first 3AA team outside of our two conference losses one in the playoffs last year and one this year to defeat us since we returned to 3A in 2013 and it was only fitting that we lost to the team we defeated in 2013. So proud of my guys man we gave it all we had to get this far after losing so much we will be back for sure. Today is your day Crest and it's well deserved congratulations again from this proud Southerndurhamalum.

mitchell vs wallace .... predictions

Well .. I assure u this will be the fastest team mitchell has probably seen in 10 or 20 yrs .. wallace probably is the best team in the east from 1a to 4a with the exception of 2 4a schools an 1 havelock team .. they dismantled 4a laney 48 -14 ... who went kneck n kneck vs the 4a east winner j.h rose .. so u go figure ..... they have probably the best rb in the state .. an the best fg kicker in the state . Think in the last 2 weeks made a 47 yd fg .. an a 51 yd fg with 8 seconds left going into the half last week in eastern finals ... their entire back field is shifty with speed so is their qb ... Mitchell will never run the ball for a play longer than. 20yds... wallace defense is way to fast all james Kenan could was gettem on a few trick plays or a play they fell apart ... my score will be 35 - 21 wallace .... could be worse ... whats your score ??????

SMAC All Conference Awards

I ran across this link this morning. SMAC All Conference Team released. I guess the Shelby Star has been so busy writing state championship articles they haven't had time to get around to the conference accolades. Great problem to have.

For Crest and Shelby fans, pertinent info is near the end of the article. Full 49 member all conference team not included in the article.

Will Clark (Crest) Coach of the Year. Aaron Ramseur (Crest) Defensive Player of the Year. Evan Davis (Crest) Kicker of the Year. Darquez Lee (Shelby) Offensive Player of the Year.

Congratulations to these folks!

heading into the last year of the SD7

Looks like Lincolnton and Maiden will be the favorites heading into the off season, Maiden with the slight favorite as they return all their skill kids. East Lincoln and West Caldwell could be the push teams, and Newton may slide in there also heading into their 3rd season with Coach Beam. EL is graduating 4 on offense and 6 on defense, Graham kid filled in nicely, losing only one lineman and 3 of the 4 WR's are back, losing Banks and Surratt are huge, but there is hope with pretty much the whole line back should help protect the young guys as they get their feet wet, and I may be a little bias but have one of the best coaches in the state in Coach Byus (he has won with less before) West Caldwell needs to stay healthy and I think the same goes with Maiden, not sure why but seems like their big play threat guys always went down in the big games that will need to change next season if they want to win it. Good luck in the off season.

Looking ahead to 2016...who does your team have returning?

I know that Lincolnton returns their QB, Clinton returns Skinner, and Monroe returns their QB and some playmakers...who else returns and which teams will contend next season?

Assuming no transfers out of the program, student-athletes keep their grades up, and no off-season trouble...

Shelby should return the following players from the regular rotation:

Defense
DE - #4, #50
DT - #40, #95, #68
LB - #44, #33, #36
S - #21, #18, #23
