Can anyone tell me about East Bladen?

10-2 East Bladen comes to town Friday to play my SW Edgecome Cougars, 11-1 inthe first ever meeting between the two schools. An immaculate record for sure for the Eagles, but they finished third in their conference. But when your conference includes Wallace-Rose Hill and Clinton, then third is probably as good as you are gonna do, as their only two losses came against those powerhouses. They do come from a split 1A/2A conference, so some of their wins come vs 1A competition, but hell, so did some of ours in nonconference action. They also have a win vs a 4A team, as do we. Their first two games were decent wins, but their other 8 were so so at best. Of those 8, only three were not close, and those teams were 3-8, 1-10, and 2-8. After week two, they were blown out by the only formidable teams they faced by 30 and 38. But then again, those two teams are indeed spectacular. Its not like our schedule was all that great ourselves, but we didn't struggle to separate ourselves from any of the teams we defeated, and we definitely didn't have to squeak out a first round victory, as the Eagles did in overtime vs 4-8 Graham. So is East Bladen as good as their record indicates? Can any Dark Horse supporters enlighten me on what they do and don't do well?

Scotland-North Davidson have historical tie

Many may know this but some younger posters may not. North Davidson will always be tied to Scotland County as Laurinburg sent us a true coaching icon in North Davidson Athletics. Pete Jones who won nearly 300 games and 2 state titles in baseball and nearly 500 wins and a state title in basketball. Our Gym is most appropriately named after him. Pete is still going strong in his 80's and plays a lot of golf. Wouldn't be shocked at all if Pete doesn't make his way down to Pate on Friday Night.

Forsyth Co. Magnet Schools List & Recruting Schedule

The first graduating class from West Forsyth was 1964, which means it opened in the fall of 1963. I do believe East Forsyth open one year prior to West Forsyth. Parkland opened in the fall of 1966. Also, Atkins opened in 2004 and I do believe Walkertown is 5 years olds. Now WSP is in an older building. It is in the original Atkins HS. Thats keeping stars away I'm sure.
This is where I got the idea West Forsyth was built in the 70s when we played them in football a few times. It was when they added a football field and it was new when we played them.
West Forsyth was built in 1964 after the merger of the Winston-Salem School District and Forsyth County School District. It originally served as a new home for students of Southwest High School (now Southwest Elementary) which is located within walking distance from the campus. In the beginning, only six buildings existed at West (100–600). The early 1970s brought several new additions including the track, football stadium, and tennis courts. Five more buildings have been also been built. The 700 and 900 buildings were constructed in the early 1980s. The Harold B. Simpson Gymnasium, named after West's first principal, was also built during that time. The 1000 building, the only two story building on campus, was constructed last in the late 1990s. A new auditorium was constructed (Performing Arts Center or PAC) replacing the old auditorium in the 600 building, which is now the band room. The 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 buildings have been remodeled. Two PODS have been put in place as well. The total budget for the overall upgrading of the facility was $10.5 million. See magnet schools on next post down.

Piedmont Triad 4A Conference

The Season is just around the corner and I want to know what people think about this Conference. If I'm not mistaken this is how it ended last year.

East Forsyth
NW Guilford
HP Central
Ragsdale
Glenn
SW Guilford

What's your thoughts on each of these teams? Let me know your preseason rankings and players to look out for. What all does each team have coming back? I think this is a very underrated conference but year in and year out this is one of the most competitive conferences out there. Almost all of the teams are evenly matched and could beat one another on any given Friday. It seems every year there is a tie for the conference crown or every year one of the bottom 2 teams upset one of the top 2 teams. I think 4 of the last 6 have ended in either a two way or three way tie for 1st.

Forest Hills coach retires......

After 36 years as a coach at Forest Hills John Lowery announced his retirement. Assistant and Head Coach of the football team since 1978. Winning a 2A title as an assistant under Algie Faircloth. He took over as head coach in 1986. Since then 16 conference titles, several regional final appearances in 2A and 3A, only lost 25 conference games in 30 years and only missed the playoffs once, finishing with over 300 wins. He was also head coach of the NC Shrine Bowl team. Lowery was head coach of the baseball team from 1978-1998. Winning 250 games and the 1997 3A state title. Going to be a big change seeing a different head coach on the sideline. Good luck to Coach Lowery in his retirement.

NCHSAA Realignment ADMs/Classification Breakdown

I saw elsewhere that the numbers for realignment have been finalized.

2017-2021 NCHSAA Realignment Classifications 20/30/30/20 Percent-Modified Model

New Hanover with 1643 students will be the largest 3A school with Hickory (1031) as the last 3A team. Stuart Cramer, which was on the bubble and expected to stay 2A, will be moving up to 3A. South Point, as expected, is moving to 2A and will be the 2nd largest in that classification.

Breaking News!!

In the continuing saga of the SCS's the local paper reports today that the county commissioners will promote a second sales tax referendum this time earmarked for educational funding in exchange for shelving plans to close schools. The commissioners also hinted they might be willing to offer a one time payment to help implement advanced programs within the stanly county schools. As to whether school officials would agree to these terms the superintendent said that would be up to the school board to decide. For more details you can find it in this sundays edition of the Snap or see it online when it comes up. I think they are all feeling the pressure from the community. And the beat goes on.

2015 Holiday Camps
  • These camps are ONLY for those players, who are serious about playing college basketball. All Camps are for 6th graders and older. The two-day camp format will be intense and players will be instructed by many of the top individual instructors in the country. Every single Camp will be run by a current or former COLLEGE coach.
  • Instruction will be given by ONLY current and former college basketball coaches. Campers will perform drills and skill work that they would be doing if they were current college players.
  • The Camp will include but not be limited to on court instruction (speed dribbling and moves off the dribble; half court and transition shooting; passing with a purpose; using and defending screens; ball screen actions; 3 on 3); detailed discussion on how to put yourself in the best position to get recruited; nutrition and diet; academic evaluation and goals; and the various basketball opportunities at all collegiate levels.
  • At the end of each Camp, every participant is given a detailed evaluation of what they do well and what they need to work on in order to reach their dreams of playing collegiately. We will then send these evaluations out to every college coach in the country. This can be a huge help to your recruiting.
  • Each Camp is Two Days long, hotels and meals are the responsibility of each camper. A player may decide to attend just one day; however we highly recommend attending both if possible.
  • Every camper will receive an official Maximum Exposure Basketball T-Shirt.
  • Camp cost is $195.00 per player (for both days) or $125.00 per player (if you just attend one day). A $100.00 deposit is required to reserve your spot.
  • These camps will fill up extremely fast! Make sure to register now so you don’t miss your chance to participate!
