Shelby at Crest

Some have called this rivalry the greatest in NC. I’m not so sure.

Here we are on Tuesday afternoon and not one slander, slur, bad joke, critical observation has been hurled. No one is talking junk about the other. Even the barbershop crowd on Facebook is very quiet. What this shows me is neither fanbase is confident in their teams ability at this stage.

Crest unable to stop the run against Burns and Shelby giving up 51 points and a multitude of turnovers to AC Reynolds leaves both teams with big unanswered questions.

Reidsville @ Greensboro Page

Also Page is still not playing i

I have been following Page Football since the 2000s and I have been amazed that the Senior QB for Page has not been playing. Especially after seeing he was pretty busy on recruiting scene this Spring and Summer according to his socials. Looks like he had Junior Day visits to Bryant University, Princeton University, Lenior Rhyne, and Gardner Webb. You just do not see an athlete of that caliber not playing in place of a Freshman.
In my humble opinion, there are probably two factors that are in play here. The new coaches are focusing on developing young talent for the betterment of the program's future, and plain ole talent. If the kid is on the college recruiting scene, then he should have no problem at the next level. Keep in mind that Junior Day camps are not the same as official recruiting visits. He is a good sized QB 6'1 190, and has a pretty good long ball. But, he was out of the line up last season a bunch and most notably at the end of the year in crunch time. The freshman has a quick release and good mechanics for an underclassman and was able to move the offense down the field and score against Reidsville. That is ultimately what matters most. Yes, he has made some mistakes, but who is to say that the senior wouldn't too. If anything, this should be a great opportunity for the senior to work that much harder to prove it. Gotta battle adversity! I think he will get meaningful reps in a game soon.

MAC Week 3 Predictions

Asheville @ Lake Norman

Asheville avoided a beatdown by Providence Day due to bad weather. This week's game should be more competitive but Lake Norman is too tough

Lake Norman 21
Asheville 13

Rosman @ Enka

Enka was humbled against Pisgah but should rebound against Rosman— prayers for that community.

Enka 42
Roaman 7

Erwin @ Brevard

The nonconference gauntlet continues for Erwin. They played Mountain Heritage tooth and nail but Brevard might be even tougher. Erwin is improved but can they hang around against Brevard?

Brevard 34
Erwin 20

McDowell @ Tuscola

Mental mistakes and poor coaching got McDowell again. 2 fumbles on special teams spotted Mitchell a 3 TD lead before McDowell came back to make it interesting. Tuscola should win by a couple scores.

Tuscola 41
McDowell 28

North Buncombe @ Madison

Can the blackhawks go to 2-1? This rivalry game is usually close but the Blackhawks look like the better team this year.

North Buncombe 28
Madison 14

East Forsyth @ Reynolds

Welcome to the Bryce Baker show. This will be the toughest game to date for the Rockets who are coming off an impressive win over Shelby. The offense is starting to come together but can the defense keep Baker and EF in check?

East Forsyth 34
Reynolds 21

Smoky Mountain @ Roberson

Roberson won a shootout with East Rutherford after not being able to score against Watauga. Smoky has looked pretty solid so far and this should be a toss-up game.

Roberson 21
Smoky Mtn 20

Cleveland County

We got bunches of lineman that went down 72,67,63 and 74 has been out due to transfer approval.. A couple d linemen went down 99 and 17..after finally playing a game we are banged up like it’s week 7 or something..I’m sure I missed more injuries that’s just what I saw..10 hand injury didn’t look good either..I watched Shelby/AC finish up Saturday and Shelby got a bunch banged up

Cleveland County

Was the lineman that went out last night ok? I thought he returned but didn't want to say for sure.

I honestly cannot wait to get out of this conference but this year it will definitely help. You won't see us beating our chest over beating Highland Tech but games like that can at the minimum get some timing down and a little comfort in the air. Crest has what I consider to be a gaunlet. Shelby and Catholic the next two weeks followed by what I think is an improved Big South. Ashbrook will be better and I think Forestview is improved as well. South Point and KM will be tough games as well. Don't hold me to the Forestview until after they play Freedom. I am curious about that game myself. Crest fans will need to be patient because you only played one game and it was an odd one with the delay. They have the tools to be very good but probably need some of the pieces moved into the right spot. Lloyd is a good one and will do what is needed to be successful.
