Let’s have some fun!!

I’ve seen a lot of football over the past 40 so years, so it got me thinking about top players?

What state-wide player from another school would you have loved to see playing for your school?

I loved watching QB Chris Leak at Independence play. He threw perfect passes and just was so awesome to watch. Of course, we were primarily a running team back then. Lol!

What area player from a neighboring school would you have loved to see playing for your school?

Justin Billips was a Ram for a year before he left to go to Elkin. He was one of the best to do it from our area.
Kelvin Bryant with Tarboro, the Fall of 1978. He only played the first half of games…

2nd draft released

For Vance County, the 1st and 2nd draft are completely different:

1st Draft:

Vance County (6A)
Franklinton (6A)
Northern Durham (6A)
Southern Durham (7A)
Hillside - Durham (7A)
Riverside - Durham (7A)

2nd Draft:
Vance County (6A)
Franklinton (6A)
Northern Nash (6A)
Wake Forest (7A)
Heritage - Wake Forest (7A)
Knightdale (7A)
East Wake (7A)

This 2nd draft for the conference as you can tell is spread out very much so. Historically Vance County seldom would play a team from Wake County. With that said I think this conference is better in terms of the gate. But you have an hour south to Knightdale in one direction and an hour east to Northern Nash in Rocky Mount. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Wake Forest would be exciting to play being 35 minutes away. I always said that Vance County and Franklinton would be buddy-buddy in realignment this go-round. Everyone else I just don't know.

In a perfect world, the association would break up 5A Conference 2 and have Vance County and Franklinton play J.F. Webb and South Granville. And really, South Granville will have 6A ADM numbers after the kids from Granville Central are distributed since Granville Central is closing after this athletic year. J.F. Webb will be close but I don't know if they would hit 6A numbers. Person County, which borders Granville County, also has the highest ADM numbers of all 5A schools. Just something to think about. These regional conferences mean something to these communities, and not just money from the gate. At least there is Franklinton for Vance County.

I got the feeling that 5A Conference 2 will stay the same in the final draft since it's a single-classification conference so oh well for that. We will see what happens. Will Vance be included with Durham, Wake, or Nash County? I really don't know what the best realistic solution could be. We will see.

Go Vipers!

2nd draft released

I don't envy the realignment committee's job at all. A close friend of mine who is a retired school administrator, served on the realignment committee once back in the early 2000's. He said it's one of the most difficult things he's ever worked on, and among the most thankless.

One thing that he related to me, and what I see reading all the criticism being levied on this thread and others... a lot of the comments on here are based on what the proposal recommends for specific conferences, counties, or schools, but if you look at the job they've got, it's a house of cards. One change may make things better for one school or conference, but that one change also may have a ripple effect that creates hardships for several other schools or conferences.

I agree that it ain't perfect, but what is? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️
The problem is there is zero consistency anywhere. If the goal was travel time, they screwed it up. If the goal was fewer split conferences, they screwed it up. If the goal was a certain number of teams per conferences, they screwed it up. It's literally like there was no parameters and they just threw things together. There's about 5 people on this board that could have been done with it in there spare time with minimal gripes. And we could be planning non conference schedules.

CVAC 2025

There has been an ongoing dispute between Catawba County and Lincoln County about borders and it will be settled February 2nd Catawba County will be taking part of Lincoln County.
Apparently you've missed the latest, as of today, Lincoln County, has offered to give Catawba County Large portions of the city of Lincolnton (The geographic center of Lincoln County). Among those areas are large tracts of wards 1 and 2, the north end of ward 3 and all of ward 4...A spokesperson, here, was quoted as saying "Today, we in Lincoln County are saying goodbye to some of our finest people. We know you in Catawba County will enjoy their uh, DEMOCRATic spirit.

Side Note: A Catawba County official speaking off the record supposedly said: Do they think we're bat$h!+ crazy ?

Side Note: Another Catawba County official speaking off record said, "Wait, Hey, maybe we'll give them Maiden in return. Then every problem we got would be gone. What a great - - - - - - - day that would be............ Whahahahat !

2nd draft released

I would like to know...which fanbase is happy with the most recent draft?
Also...I think schools that are in remote areas (remote from the majority of other like-sized schools) understand they will have to drive a little more. Probably one reason they like living out there.... to be away from everything.
Here's the thing....that can't drive punishment to the rest of the state. Those sparse/spaced out schools need to be grouped together as much as possible and not make 2/3 of a conf. have to drive an extra 45 minutes to every athletic contest if a regular, reasonable conference is within 15-25 minutes from each school. That's the point of conferences (a grouping from a region).
Shelby
They will have zero competition in the playoffs. You can pair them Gaffney for 11 straight games, go 0-11 and win it all.
Shelby is the answer to your question.

I do appreciate what they do. Two of the conferences in this area (Fay) I got exactly right. 5A/6A and 7A/8A.....just
missed out on the 4A by a couple of schools.
