CVAC 2024 - Round 2

66 to 28 Shelby
Not that it really matters, but I believe the final score of that game was 63-28, not 66. Maiden has played Shelby five times that I know of, and the Blue Devils are 0-5 in those games. Only one of the five games has been competitive, a 14-7 loss in 1998. Maiden had the ball and on the final play of the game threw about a 30 yard pass into the end zone. It looked like our receiver had a decent chance to make the catch, but the Shelby safety came over at the last instant and made a good play on the ball, batting it to the ground. Not sure of the exact scores in the four blowout losses, but I think they're somewhere in the neighborhood of 47-13 and 42-8, both at Maiden. The 14-7 and 63-28 games were at Shelby. Those games were all conference games when Shelby and Maiden were in a combined 1A/2A conference. Maiden played at Shelby in the 2019 2A playoffs and lost. I believe it was 49-7, but I could be wrong.

#13 Forest Hills at #4 Randleman

Tigers are pretty much the same team from last year. Minus their good middle linebacker. I think Forest Hills has their number. IF they get through all of those roundabouts, that is.....
Keep turning right is the key…
Ok truth be told I spent better part of one Friday night just going round and round and round…

Possible western 6A conferences

As far as the far western part of the state I don’t see how you don’t avoid split conferences. Should look something like this. McDowell is always in a tough spot especially since they are going to be 7A.

WMAC 6A/5A
Roberson 6A
Asheville 6A
AC Reynolds 6A
Enka 5A
Erwin 5A
West Hendo 5A
North Hendo 5A

Mountain 7 5A/4A
Franklin 5A
Smoky 5A
North Buncombe 5A
Pisgah 4A
Tuscola 4A
East Hendo 4A
Brevard 4A

Western Highlands 3A/2A
Hendo 3A
Owen 3A
Polk 3A
Mountain Heritage 3A
Madison 3A
Avery 2A
Mitchell 2A

SMC 2A/1A
Swain 2A
Murphy 2A
Cherokee 2A
Hayesville 2A
Robbinsville 1A
Rosman 1A
Andrews 1A
Mountain 7
Agree with most of yours .except see West and North coming in a 5A and North Buncombe out.

They’ve done a real good job. They really have. Our expectations are lofty and that gets in the way sometimes.

However, when you witness with your own eyes coaches coaching and see progress over the course of the season I think we ought to thank them.

I’m happy for Coach Lloyd. He’s a Charger. A good man.

I can’t believe the difference in the defense Coach Toms has made. Good gracious.

The whole staff is good. I heard the special teams coach chewing butts out last Friday. We were laughing.

It’s been a good year. Hope it continues.

Final ADM Numbers - 11/19 - 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A

I see both sides of the Shelby/reidsville split. If they are together, they can actively control whether Shelby can close the gap in the number of championships each school has won.

But where is the fun in that. We need them apart. Shelby needs to claim reidsville is scared and has a cupcake schedule. Reidsville just needs to sit back and point at the total numbers. These boards would be an awfully boring place in the off-season if we can not make post and after post dealing with the hypotheticals and what ifs.
These arguements are SO lame. Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY knows Shelby is scared and Reidsville does not have a cupcake schedule. Not to mention the fact: There is no way Shelby can catch us and SL and 2nd and TD knows it. Now that's settled, don't want to hear any more about it!!!!!

The Transfer Portal Problem

Or its a life lesson that the rest of life/athletics does. The transfer portal in college and free agency in the pros.
My point is that life isn't always sunshine and roses. Kids need to learn to deal with some losing, adversity and working hard if they want the team they are on to be better. A high school athlete transferring to another school only to be part of a winning program is BS, in my opinion. As I said, if he/she is dealing with an incompetent or abusive coach, I can see allowing some leeway there. But if the coach in place is effective and he/she is trying to build a winning program, a kid on such a team should not be allowed to transfer.

The transfer portal in college is also BS and I hate it. It is ruining college sports. The if you transfer in college you sit out the next season rule should still be in effect. The only exception I would make to that is if a college coach is fired or leaves to take a higher paying job. In that case, I'd allow kids to transfer and be able to play the next season. A lot of college kids go to a certain school due to the coach. So if that coach is no longer in place, transfers and being able to play the next season should be allowed. The pros are the pros. That is purely a money based business and free agency/moving around is part of that. I have no problem with that.

Conferences or regions

Have at fellows, dang sure don’t want to be accused of picking on Mt Airy. Funny how all the football coaches going back to Coach Diamont and upto Coach Adkins never had a problem with me. But, heck they don’t matter. When I paid my respects at Coach Prices funeral they were very appreciative, but dang I am biased toward Mt Airy.

I am having dinner with my grandson tonight and I promise you Mt Airy football will not enter the discussion. And TD, WS Prep and Bishop won’t be either.

Hope you enjoy a good whiskey at dinner. Probably would help some of these Mayberrians to get a quality taste of something other than Old Crow.

What, if anything, did we learn in 1st round ?

Burgers and dogs? They better stop on way there then…
ER is a popcorn, nachos, pizza kinda place…
And whatever is in them food trucks parked in end zone 😂😂
I'm not sure I'd have the guts to test those food trucks. Think it would be the equivalent of getting "Manager's Choice" back in elementary school.

Swe vs WRH Who Ya Got !!

I know Coach Mot from his time at NHHS. He is a players coach and I like him. There has been some inconsistency from year to year at WRH and I am not sure why - chemistry maybe. That said, it seems like this year has been inconsistent or maybe Mot has done a great coaching job. Whatever the reason, they seem to be playing well at the right time.

I generally don’t worry too much about early season losses with East Duplin , but this year they started stacking up. RB #39 is back and based on a St Paul’s posters comments it was good ole ball control O. Can they keep West Craven’s QB off the field? If ED makes every WC possession critical then watch out. I have learned not to bet against Battle.

Sorry guys - got off-point with the thread title.
I like Coach Mot too! We talk from time to time on the phone. I don’t bother him much during the season. He will have them ready to play and I feel like SWE will give them a good game. It’s just tough to go into the pound and get a win this time of year.
I’m sure Coach Battle will have his team prepared to play their style of ball control. But it’s not just Battle Holley we are talking about but also Brian Aldridge and the rest of that tough staff they have. I think there is like 4 former head coaches on that staff. You got to respect them. It don’t get any better than being able to play a Duplin County team in round 2! I hate this realignment stuff cause it’s going to divide us from some of these great programs that are currently in 2A. I hate to see that coming. 2A as it has been since we got in it has been some great football.

Oak Grove

Looking forward to any new wrinkles Coach Lloyd and his staff may have for this week. The last couple weeks have seen things like using Mosely in the wildcat, Lyric Pettis on offense, and how about that fake punt last week. Coach Lloyd speaks highly of the Grizzlies and the Chargers are looking forward to the trip.

So thankful to have Coach Greg Lloyd and Coach Frank Toms back home. This football team has continued to grow this year. You think about what Crest lost last year and they are a few plays from being undefeated.. The kids are working hard both on and off the field.

Regardless of how the rest of this season goes...the future is bright...and PROUD TO BE A CHARGER!
