The reason I don't like the RPI is because all rankings have Robbinsville SOS alot stronger than MA but MA opponents have a higher win percentage, which means nothing. Really stupid system. I'm saying that and Robbinsvillevis #1.

MA will get the same credit for playing a 5-0 Starmount as Robbinsville will for playing a
5-0 Rabun Gap. As far as the OWP goes.
Bad system.

If Rville goes 9-1 chances are good to be #1.
Round 5 would be packed at Big Oaks.

One reason is MA won't play anyone with as high of owp as rville. Swain could be 9-0 when We play them.

No way can Mitchell and Eastern Randolph be above Starmount and Thomasville.
It’s about numbers. ER doesn’t play a 1A team until/if they make playoffs. Only loss so far is to undefeated 3A Eastern Alamance.
Are they better than the two teams you mentioned? I don’t know and quite frankly know one else does until they play each other.
Also Thomasville lost to orange/blue team first game of year. ER will play that team a little later and maybe we can have more insight.

I don’t know if Thomasville is better than those teams mentioned either but I wanna point out that the first game of the year is a LOT different than the last game of the year

I've found Piedmont in 4A when they're now 3A and J.M. Robinson in 2A and they're 3A.

For ER I was just going off score comparisons from common opponents to Starmount. Based on those they should be ranked below them

This rpi rankings have nothing to do with first game vs last.

What common opponents?
Only one I can find is Trinity and ER hasn’t played that team yet?
I’m very literal so I didn’t look into who those teams have played. Just straight up schedules.

I know that…I was directing that to his comment about basing eastern Randolph vs Thomasville by a common opponent played 2 months apart.
Not disagreeing with your concept…
However according to computer the only difference might be in OWP. Orange/blue was 0-0 when Thomasville played them. Could be 9-0 when ER travels northwest.

The 9-0 will be added to Thomasville owp.
It's doesn't matter the record when played.
Each week adjusts.

I gotcha. I had broken it down a couple of weeks ago just to see where each team was at. Here is what I found:

ER 11 points better than Asheboro
Asheboro 2 points better than Albemarle
Trinity 10 points better than Albemarle
Starmount 13 points better than Trinity(could've been a lot more)

With a fictional matchup of both teams with Albemarle, ER would be 13 points better where Starmount would be 23 points better. I put these games together because they were at the beginning of the season. I realize that this is stretching things out and can't be fully trusted but it gives some general ideas. Simmons had Starmount beating Alleghany by 4 points on Friday and Starmount won by 42. I keep seeing the Rams disrespected by the polls. Mitchell beat the same Alleghany team by like 7. But yet they're ranked above Starmount. It's just crazy

I’m impressed. And yes I’ve been thinking to myself after each week the rankings have just not been on the rams side. And may not get better north Wilkes and forbush may only have one win at the end of the year and it’ll be against the other… however our kicker is north Iredell. I see them having a solid year by end of the season

Someone help me here. A #1 from a league will always get the seed higher in playoffs than a #2 from another regardless of RPI. RPI does not trump the conference #1 in a split league or the conference champ in a 1A league. Example, Thomasville will likely finish 8-2 but will be the #1 1A seed from the CCC split conference. ER will be the #1 1A from their split conference as well. The Mitchell/Draughn winner would be the WHC #1 and the other #2 and would get seeded accordingly. Robbinsville/Swain/Murphy winner will be the #1 and the others 2 and 3's. A 9-1 Robbinsville or Swain could be seeded behind an 8-2 Thomasville, ER or other team?

Is this correct or wrong?

Man I tried. Watching NFL and got lost somewhere in that math/figuring…
What it comes down to me is the NCHSAA has decided on a formula to use and like always not everyone will be happy with how things shake out.
It’s all good though.
Good luck to Starmount.
I really mean that.

Could be technically but a 9-1 Rville won't be behind Thomasville.

Hey BK if MA makes it that far to play Robb they will meet Nights and play in parking lot if that's what it takes! RPIs suck but is what it is! Just play the game!
You dang right the burdens on them to beat us whether at Big Oaks or Wallace Shelton if we was to win up there you talking about chest pumping BK becareful what you wish for

Bad system.
That's why you include the oowp. What is the strength of the teams the team you just played. I know we've discuss this a lot in the past but I still can't figure out what you want in a system. With this comment it seems you want people's opinions like a coaches pole or something because without them playing that the only perfect way of knowing Rabun Gap is better than Starmount then you get into the issue of playing teams from GA and comparing them to teams in NC. My opinion is that Rabun probably is the better team but opinions do not always work out.
You should be happy if they were still using maxpreps they have Mt Airy #1 even though they have Rville with the better sos.
Even if you use the NCAA football sos formula Rville with a stronger sos than Mt.A just like if you use add the owp & oowp in the NC RPI and even if you lower the % of the oowp.

In RPI correct. I am talking overall seeding. I don't think a #2 from a conference can have home field or a higher seed in the playoffs over a conference #1? Just trying to figure that out. Cannot remember how that shook out last season.

At this point I see the #1-#5 being something like this. In no particular order. MA, SMC Champ, ER, Thomasville, WHC Champ. All others would be #2's and seeded after conference #1's. Thus making the RPI for a 9-1 #2 seed lower than an 8-2 #1.

Main issue you get when you get into point spreads are teams running up scores then it's not an exact science to compare games of playing the same opponent just ask people who's gotten bitten in the butt in using that to pick games. Sometimes a team for some reason matches up better to a team better than another or a team simply has a bad night or key player injuries that night etc just to many variables for that to be in a ranking system. Of course I assume maxpreps while they said a few years ago they stopped using point spreads because of the reason I gave but they must have something since they have Mt Airy above Robbinsville with Rville having the better sos. But notice they have to use a computer algorithm to figure it all out.
While the RPI is simple that you can do on a calculator.
I would suggest maybe changes the percentages from 30-40-30 to something like 40-40-20 but in your example Mitchell would still be ranked higher than Starmount but closer from 0.00384 difference to 0.000336
As far as Starmount I really don't get maxpreps having them such a bad sos it doesn't match this rpi sos or say if you use the NCAA sos formula. Usually they come close as far as position.
