WC vs 71st 3a Title

Agree this will be a defensive game. WC owes them from 86. This was the basketball title game from 2022 also.
Looks like this is gonna be a battle of west charlottes speed vs 71st size
So 71st would have blown out Dudley & Hickory too, since you feel that it will be a easy win? I guess you didn't see how WC stuffed Hickory's Big Running Back Lackey in the 2nd half and made him fumble after hard hits? 71st isn't no bigger than 4A Mallard Creek, Hough, Chambers and Independence or 3A Dudley with their 6-2/6-3 320/340 DLs. The game will be close!!! Either team can win it.
Great matchup. WC is battle tested. I’ve watched 71st very closely the last 4 years. They won’t fool anyone with their gameplan. They will be physically imposing from start to finish. The key for WC is will they be able to drop their nuts and go blow for blow every down? I think they can. This will be a close one, but give me 71st.
WC has played all the best teams in 4A and 3A and only lost to two of the top teams...First half may be close but I see WC pulling out a close one....
Yes hickory is terrible this year. Slow white mnt team equals terrible football...

If YOU are picking 71st that means West Charlotte will win by at least 14.

WC has the speed to compete but so did everyone 71st has rolled in the playoffs. I'm really thinking the size and physical play of 71st will get it done in the end. 71st by a TD or two as they take over in the 2nd half. Everyone knows what 71st is doing but stopping it is another story.
Well first they'd have to be slow second they'd have to be in the Mountains lol
3rd they'd have to be predominantly white.
4th they'd have to be terrible at football lol
I like both teams. Hate to pick against WC but my heart says 71st is too strong on both sides of the ball. 71st by 10 points.
With no common opponent who knows how they'll match up.
Size is an advantage until its a disadvantage. Playing a skilled team like WC loaded with athletes speed will neutralize the size after a while. I see this game being close early with the size for 71st being the difference...... BUT not so fast my friend. That same size will be what pushes WC to the win. Horses get tired and WC wins by 2 scores.
West Charlotte will move up to 8A next year and be competitive. They got good talent to be competitive

WC's run defense did not stuff Lackey or Hickory. The one fumble Lackey had was when he dropped the snap. HHS had their average rush game against WC with Lackey going over 100 yards. WC better have more bulk to stop the 71st rushing attack and also be aware of the QB for 71st. He's an elite athlete as well. IMO 71st will win by 10+.
Cheerduck I think if y'all stuck with run more y'all would have won. Y'all were getting 7 yards a carry but was adamant about constantly calling pass plays.
Our coaches have been successful with their play calling the last couple of years. WC was loading their backside defense and their DBs played an awesome game. We missed on a couple of play calls, with the run, and failed a few times when the running play was the obvious call. I agree we could have run the ball much more, but that is just not the Red Tornado offensive scheme the last few years. I would have loved to have seen us run the option more off the edge as well. We just didn't do it. As explosive as our offense was this year, we still ran the ball 60% of the time.
I've always played and participated with this attitude, "It's not what the competition does, but what we fail to do". I feel we certainly failed to get the points when we had the chance. Kudos to WC for the win, but I'd love a rematch.

Hickory threw a alot of quick screens and none of them got any yards some lost yards. If I was 71st those wouldn't be in my arsenal unless they have better perimeter blocking.
Big advantage for them to have all those students and be competing in 3A.
Realignment should be done every 2 years instead of every 4.
Called West Charlotte being this game back in May. Call me bias, but always going with the Charlotte boys in the big game. Just built differently.
You gotta mind the head game, ya feel me? when a big squad starts feelin' that heat and watchin' their lead fade away, they start slippin' up, makin' mistakes, and that's when the quick crew swoops in for the score.
No one can ever give me an answer on the size of the student body giving an advantage. How?????? Myers Park plays for state football championships how often? What about Ardrey Kell?
Besides soccer what sport is Garinger competitive in?
Are you kidding? Bigger pool of kids = more potential talent and without question more depth.
I don't know what MP is doing or not doing...or any other team with 3k enrollment in CHLT and Raleigh areas....but only one of them (at that size) wins the State championship every year.
Garinger is the one ridiculous outlier example. If this doesn't matter, 3a teams should just "Decide" to go play 1a playoffs then.
Stuffed? Hickory had nearly 400 yards offense. Should've been more if they would have kept attacking WCs weaknesses. I am all in on WC doing their share of winning that game....but Hickory had huge mistakes/calls as well. Could've been 450-480 yards of offense very easily if Hickory makes better calls on a couple third down plays.
You can go ahead and allow that to matter in your own mind as long as you want. Just because one school has a larger ADM doesn't mean there are more ELIGIBLE students to play a sport. There are other factors. But, you go ahead and take your beliefs and run with them.
#11 Nance is hungry. This will be the 4th state title he’s playing in. 2 in basketball and now 2 in football. Ironically he lost 1 to WC in basketball a few years back. I think he will be the difference maker in this one. If WC can’t keep him contained, game over.
Pretty much the same we heard about Stober last week. WC will be just fine. They know what they need to do. Speed is the neutralizer.
