WC vs 71st 3a Title

WC is playing where they were told to play. Things aren’t like they were four years ago.

I’m happy for them. They came out of the West. That’s a tough thing to do. I hope WC wins because of that fact alone.

Mediocre whines about numbers. But there are some programs that just want to LINE UP and SEE! You can tell the mediocre programs from the other on this site by who’s whining about what.

P.S. Anyone saying Hickory didn’t get yards is a 🤡.

They were playing a great team and made a few decisions that were questionable and the offense sputtered a couple times. But the stats don’t LIE!

They win State last year and were a game away from going back. A lot of folks wish they could say that.

Let’s go West Charlotte. Put them cleats in their 🫏🫏

They need to win it to keep the run in the West! Some of their fans believe the 3A title is below them, LOL

If they do not they will have a rough go in the 8A classification next year.

I don't believe that, because West Charlotte was proud when they won the 2021-22 Boys Basketball Championship beating 71st 83-75. And I don't think they will have a rough go in 8A, they already play Hough, Mallard Creek, Chambers. They were already in their Conference. Last year they beat Independence. West Charlotte back in the day under Coach Tommy Knotts was the Top Dawgs in Charlotte before Independence, Butler, Mallard Creek, Chambers, Weddington. So it's not like that School haven't play big boy ball before. Hickory in the other hand is dropping down to 5A and will lose all their Skilled Players (QB,RB,WRS). And we know Hickory was a Below 500 Team for a whole decade before last season. They will fall back to the bottom again and it will be another 25 plus years before we here from them again.

Add to what you stated, 95% of our WC players are underclassmen. #'s 4 and 14 are sophomores, #9 is a junior. This year's team is very young.

Hickorys JVs haven't lost a game in 2 years. They ain't going no where as long as Glass is there.

I suggest they start playing some better competition to prepare them for the playoffs. Playing lower competition will give you a false sense of your strength. Then, "Pow" hit in the mouth.

If u have nfhs go back and watch near end of 2nd qtr. QB got tackled and had his leg bent backwards. He never ran again the rest of the game just handed the ball off. He could barely walk at end of the game. If he was healthy 71 st wins bc WC run defense isnt good. But if he can't run the ball WC wins

Yet Somehow they managed to score as many points in the 2nd half as they did in the first.
There is also 2 sides of the ball..
Defense held Jax to 7pts whom scored 56 the week before at the 1 seed Havelock.
Lots to think about here. Qb not a 100% no doubt a BIG issue. Whether you live east or west
your mind leans that direction with your pic naturally. It will be determined on the field.

Jax shouldn't even have been there Williams was killing them in round 2.... 24 to 7 before Jax knocked Williams QB out of the game in 2nd qtr. WC can be ran on and Hickory could have beat them if they would have ran the ball more right at them instead of calling so many pass plays. 34 for Hickory was getting 7 yards a carry and I was on WC side and WC fans near me where like why isn't Hickory running the ball more? Hickory beat themselves more than anything imo. I think this will be the most competitive game at states.

cause apparently they have the best qb in the state lmao even tho havelock qb was 3rd in the whole nation for passing yards and missed a game and even in that lost to jville he threw for 444 yards they lost because they couldn’t run the ball and couldnt stop the run

No one can ever give me an answer on the size of the student body giving an advantage. How?????? Myers Park plays for state football championships how often? What about Ardrey Kell?
Besides soccer what sport is Garinger competitive in?
If 5 percent of a 2000 person student body are good, male athletes you have 100 good male athletes to choose from.
If 5 percent of a 1200 person student body are good, male athletes you have 60 good male athletes to choose from.
If student bodies have similar athletic makeups and similar focus, the one that has 5 percent of 800 more students should have a better team. Myers Park, Garinger, West Charlotte do not have similar athletic makeups and similar focuses. West Charlotte probably has similar athletic makeups and focus as Hough, but how much larger is Hough and how many games in a row has Hough won against West Charlotte.

Myers Park is one of the largest schools in the State. They have more Jimmy & Joe's than West Charlotte. Garinger does not. West Charlotte is also a Magnet School.

69% of Hough's High School students are White, 14% of students are Hispanic, 10% of students are Black, 4% of students are Asian, and 3% of students are Two or more races. So, their numbers are misleading. Hough's football team is probably 75% to 80% black.

West Charlotte is 1-14 against Hough. West Charlotte lost 13 games in a row against Hough.

Hough enrollment: 2,572
West Charlotte enrollment: 1,538
Myers Park enrollment: 3,593

Thanks for the numbers. I just used Myers Park and Garinger as those were 2 of the names he mentioned and have to admit using Hough out of spite.
Why are your numbers so different from ADMs for 2025-2029 that have Myers Park at 3317 and West Charlotte at 2300+. Either way, I hope West Charlotte takes care of 71st on Saturday.

It varies from year to year. I do know Myers Park & Ardrey Kell are the 1 & 2 largest schools in NC.

News flash, WC isn't the only stiff competition in the West. You better hope WC rolls this weekend........ Ok?
I guess what's hard to get most of y'all to understand is that these kids are built different. The athleticism is of a higher caliber than the outlying areas. They play youth league ball differently, they play 7 on 7 year round. It's the same with urban schools throughout America. Go to Miami, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Philly, Atlanta and they are built different than suburban area athletes. They ARE NOT playing for the glory of Friday Night Lights. They are grinding to change their families lives by making it to the next level to have a chance at the next level.

WC currently has one in the NBA, Patrick Williams of the Chicago Bulls and Devontez Walker with the Baltimore Ravens. West Meck has 2 in the NFL, Harding, Rocky River, Mallard Creek with two, North Meck, Myers Park, Metrolina Christian Academy.

You're delusional. THIS year WC may be built different. But EVERY year ONE team is built different from the rest. You are talking like they are Independence of the 2000's with a 109 game win streak. What year is your son?

Charlotte should see those kids getting in the leagues, the population is pushing 1mm in Charlotte alone. That doesn't include the surrounding areas you listed.

Creek has 3 NFL, 3 CFL. FYI! :)

They weren't playing stiff competition those last two years. Stiff competition includes teams with very athletic talent.

To be fair, when TK was at WC, Butler, MC, and Weddington didn't exist.

Butler did exist and Weddington was opened the year after TK left WC. Please also remember WC went to the state 3 times under Knotts, and had gone 4 times prior and has gone after Knotts. Knotts was big at WC, but he wasn't the only coach to have success at WC.

-If Greiner stays at WC long term he could possibly have one of those MC/Chambers type runs. The talent they are getting is incredible with great coaching. Greiner fits at WC. IMHO 8A will be easier then 3A this year or 4A this year. WC can beat Hough next season.

When you say you beat Dudley, Erwin, Hickory, Chambers, and have 6 shutouts on the year with an underclass lead team. Oh my 2025 will really be something special.

From what I saw last Friday combined with the youth of their roster, WC will be one of the favorites the next couple years in 8A. I saw 71st play Hickory last year and 71st had a lot of really good juniors. Being in this game last year could make a difference. Both teams seem to be really well coached. If I had to pick I’d say 71st by 7 or less, assuming their QB is good to go. But WC plays with intensity and emotion and if you let them get momentum it’s hard to get it back.

Im hearing that both the 71st QB and the huge RB #9 are both out for the West Charlotte game. I don't know this first hand just what I've heard from a reliable source. If true I think it's too much for 71st to overcome with only a few days practice. The QB has been a starter forever and is truly the heart of the team. Hope my source is wrong.

im still taking 71st that team is loaded

If both are out that's huge. They both seemed fine in interview after game. But adrenaline can cover alot of stuff up.
The QB clearly was not fine if you look at the game film. I saw the interview though as well. I've been told the big RB/ LB has a hand/wrist related injury. If you go back and watch the interview he is wearing a heavy is type of glove on his left hand only, not wearing anything on his right hand. Even in the highlights he is wearing it in live game action. This may be an indicator of what I have been told supporting a hand/wrist injury. He did play a heck of a game though. My guess is that both hoped to play but the extent of their injuries was not evident during the game but only after further evaluation the injuries are more serious than they were initially hoped or thought to be.
