Don't want you to think we're ignoring you over here BNN. The truth is that we simply don't know. Good turnout for spring practice. We lost a lot of talent, but have some pretty good players back. But a new superintendent is being hired as we speak. That will set the tone for athletics. If we continue to allow disciplinary issues to be a distraction, it definitely affects academic and athletic results. If the new person establishes that appropriate conduct off the field and academic integrity is necessary to play sports, we could be pretty good. Or, if the kids don't buy in, we could be abysmal. The first step is up to the school board and administration. From there, it's completely up to the student athletes and their families. How ya lookin boys?

A little of all of that, combined with no accountability and little consequences. Character education means rewarding positive behaviors and administering negative consequences when the behavior is unacceptable. The former without the latter isn't compassion. It's enabling. What happened to the culture at Thomasville. Coach A. Brown did a great job with them for a long, long time and then it seems it got so bad that even he had to give up aftr a few years into his second stint following Benjie.
It seems like the kids did not respond anymore there toward the end. Did they lose a bunch of the tradtional families of athletes that T'ville was known for? Did gangs or drugs take over. Not making accusations, just curious.
Very well said OC. I may use that quote. Of course I will give you credit. Applies to a whole lot of programs and parents.A little of all of that, combined with no accountability and little consequences. I'm afraid so, Godevilsgo. Not enough money on the planet to get me to teach in a public school, much less coach.Very well said OC. I may use that quote. Of course I will give you credit. Applies to a whole lot of programs and parents.

A teacher in a Charlotte school told me this true story this week. Seems there is a nineteen year-old freshman who has zero high school credits. His mother insists that he will graduate next week. She bought him a cap and gown. She's threatened everyone involved, as has he. Extra security for the ceremony.
It's that mindset that has created the environment that surrounds athletics in many schools. If a player is held accountable for their behavior, they may drop out of school. So we tolerate conduct that we shouldn't, all the while claiming to be championing the "at risk" student. And we wonder why the misconduct escalates into crime and gang activity. It's my hope that Thomasville will break the cycle, even if it means sacrificing athletic success. We'll see.
