Killing time so did a little research....Here's the top 13 or this weeks list with their record since 1972..Listing them in this in order of winning percentage in that time frame.....

1.) Shelby 463-122-5......79.1%

2.) Clinton 407-148-1.....73.3%

3.) Reidsville 402-147-1.....73.2%

4.) Lincolnton 349-189-2.....64.8%

5.) Northeastern 320-182-3.....63.7%

6.) Edenton H. 311-187-4.....62.4%

7.) Monroe 310-209-2.....59.7%

8.) Bunn 296-207-5.....58.8%

9.) East Duplin 292-216-2.....57.4%

10) East Lincoln 289-223-1.....56.4%

11) Greene Cen. 264-227-3.....53.7%

12) W. Caldwell 207-233.........47.0% (since 1977)

13) Mtn. Heritage 174-281-1.....38.2% (since 1975)

Not sure what it proves but thought it might provoke discussion.......

It's not that those 3 have played that many more games...........just about all listed have played over 500 games....it's the amount of games won by the top teams...........

Yes they're in the 500s but Shelby is at 590 compared to number 10 512 games. 78 games more. If you divide by 14 which would be high it's 5.5 seasons. That's a lot

Well it just proves...you go deep in the playoffs and it's like another season...Two 16 game seasons is like Three 10 or 11 game seasons...................adds up fast if you are good enough to make deep runs.........................

You also have to remember before they went to a split class, you didn't have as many playoff games and back then you didn't have endowment games.

If the ADM numbers are anything like last year's, both Reidsville and Shelby will be right near the cutoff for 2A & 2AA....you know everybody that knows which subdivision they will be big will hope both of thes will go in the other...and that everybody in the West is hoping Reidsville will go East and everybody in the East is hoping Reidsville will go West...Clinton was not as close to the 2A/2AA cutoff line last year but I have no idea what their (or anybody's) numbers will look like this year...wishing the state would hurry up and release the numbers so we could have an idea of what to expect and how to project this year's brackets

Also, for what it's worth, don't forget that Northeastern was a 4A school for much of the time covered in these records...it was not until after Pasquotank Co. HS opened around 2000 or 2001 that the Eagles dropped to 2A....and don't remind the other small schools in the East but those Aces from John A. Holmes HS in Edenton are dropping to 1A next year

Do you know only Clinton's or everybody else's? Any of us that try to project what the brackets might look like can't wait to get a hold of this year's numbers....and of course it seems that 966 seems large; it definitely would have been 2AA last year, and most likely will be this year, but we never know until we see the whole list....always possible that a lot of other schools also moved up, and chance of which 64 of the 98 2A schools make the playoffs could make the big/small cutoff line move up or down

Yes, I only know the figures for Clinton High. Mule is right, contact your local school and they may give you the information....just depends on the system.

Based on what you're saying 2AA could end up Shelby/Monroe/East Lincoln vs Reidsville/Clinton
Not making any predictions as there are others looming

Hearing now that Reidsville's numbers are around 850 (this is unofficial)......if so....the Rams will probably be in 2A.....we will wait and see.................

Reidsville has less than last year's 834 ... large senior class last year.

Every time I've passed through Shelby, I'm amazed at the size and scope of the main drag. You wouldn't think it's a 2-A size town. Beautiful high school campus right on the main highway (U.S. 74).
Shelby population was 20,323 at the 2010 census. I realize Crest High is about 6 miles away - comparable to the miles apart for Reidsville and Rockingham High.

Yeah TGT it's kinda strange we are 2a

When I graduated we had 383 walk the line now it seems like a big graduation class is 150-175 of course I graduated a day or three ago ha ha 1989

Thanks for kind words about our campus proud of our amenities down here ...you boys seem to be firing on all cylinders again up there ! Good luck rest of the way ...

I would think Shelby should be bigger than Crest. School boards like to maneuver the lines to fit the needs of their most influential constituents.

godevilsgo...that is exactly what has happened to Reidsville High School................kids that can throw a stone and hit the school from where they live...are allowed to attend Rockingham County High School 6 miles away..............

Ram. Same issue at Shelby. HollyOak neighborhood is next door to Shelby High but those kids go to Crest 6 miles away. When the school board realigned they chose to move $$ kids from the lake and country club into Shelby district and leave the lower income kids(right next door) in the Crest district.

As you stated, Holly Oak Park is next door to SHS. There used to be a path from that neighborhood that kids would walk through to get to SHS to play "pick up" football games on SHS's practice field.

You also have the Light Oak Community that bypasses/bypassed SHS to get to Crest. Many of Crest's greatest players ever came from that community. Could you imagine how many state titles and the overall record Shelby High would have if this city wasn't zoned the way it is/was.

You also have/had kids from Lenoir Drive in Shelby that go all the way to Burns High School in Lawndale, NC. Moderating Black enrollment has had more to do with Shelby being the smallest school in Cleveland County more so than anything. I love the diversification at SHS, though.

SHS should in fact be the biggest school in this county, at the very least 3A like the 3 other schools in this county.

L A I disagree with you on some parts of your post. When I graduated in 1965 Cleveland County had three school systems. Shelby High School had 1165 students in three grades. From there the number of students started lowering with the graduating of the "War Babies". The three school systems merged and by then Shelby high had a number of classrooms empty even though they had put the ninth grade back in the high school. About ten years ago the school system chose to take Elizabeth Elementary and funnel all of its students into Shelby Middle School and Shelby High School to relieve the overcrowded Crest High School. Elizabeth Elementary had the students from Moss Lake, Light Oak Community and students over toward the Number three Community.I know the students at least to Earl Road transferred to Shelby Middle School.Several years ago the Elizabeth Elementary School was changed to Shelby Intermediate School. The elementary students now attend Marion Elementary.

Any idea of how many kids that would normally attend Shelby HS go to a private or charter schools....I guess a better question is, are there many of those down that way ???

But, why were kids in those areas bypassing Shelby to get to Crest to begin with, leading to Crest being overcrowded? That never made any sense. I had moved to Charlotte and lived there 10 years, returning to Shelby in 2012. Now, 5 years later, i was still oblivious to all the modifications you mentioned in your post. I appreciate that breakdown, old great one, seriously. In my opinion, though, it's still ridiculous and perplexing that Shelby is the smallest school in the county.

We have kids that go to Thomas Jefferson Academy, a charter school. It's located in Rutherfordton County, but have buses coming to Shelby to bus kids there. I would imagine that the number of those students are small, but we have some that attend that school, nonetheless.

Because Cleveland had three school systems.....Shelby City, Kings Mountain, and Cleveland County. Shelby school system didn't necessarily follow the city limits. Some of the kids in the city limits had to go to the county schools and some that lived in the county went to Shelby School System. Biggest problem with Crest being overcrowded was the fact that many people from other parts of Cleveland moved to or near Boiling Spring in the past few years.

As far as I know we have one charter school in Cleveland County and it is named Pinnacle.
