Dag! Almost hit the post button on my picks and realized I wudd’nt wearing my mask.
I feel good about Newton.

EL no problem, North over Maiden but not by much, West will get it done but not even put a dent in the overall series, And there’s Newton.

Alittle predictable this time around

Things are coming together for Bandys. The coaches are learning what they have and the players are figuring out what the coaches want them to do. Bandys’ defense is the real deal if they don’t get all worn down. Bandys is low in numbers, 25 or 26. They dress out some JV players just for numbers Friday nights. EL better not overlook Bandys. It’s got “trap game” written all over it for EL. Both have a sophomores playing QB. I think EL has a few more pieces around their QB, but anything can happen. I can’t wait to see how it plays out. This fall you will really start seeing some of the young talent at Bandys. Middle School and JV doesn’t usually mean much, but the current juniors went 9-1 as freshman on JV, and the current sophomores were 9-1 last year on JV and they were also 8-0 the year before in the Catawba County Middle School conference. Also, the sophomores were 13-1 in baseball. Again, none of that matters and doesn’t translate to varsity football wins. What it does mean is that there are athletes at Bandys and you guys will see them over the next couple of years.

Once again...Thanks to Fly Rod for doing this post... it’s my favorite. I’m going to miss the South Fork conference... due to the competitiveness each week and every year! You just never know what’s going to happen on Friday in this conference. Soooo....
I’ll start with the Red Devils of Newton Conover. Fly Rod posted ‘em at 2-1 (typo) and regrettably... their record is 1-2. Dag!.. they lost a game on a Bye week. Newton with a heart breaker to Lincolnton, a sound win over Bandys, and a hard fought loss to West Lincoln. Newton... the preseason favorite to win the Fork... has stumbled out of the gate... but don’t count ‘em out yet... it’s early! I’m anxious to see how many yards their RB Shade gets on the year... his average is over 200 yards per game! I hope he stays healthy!
Now...
I have to take West Lincoln over Lincolnton by a lot! Sorry! For that... Mr. Lincolnton! West is GOOD! However.. I did notice that their stud RB Leonhart only had a couple carries for negative yards against Newton. Please tell me....that he didn’t get hurt. Does anyone know?

I’ll have to take East Lincoln over Bandys by a couple scores. Sorry!...for that... Guy!
However, I do believe that the Trojans are going to be a tough out each week. They’re huge!.. scrappy... and want to win! I was very impressed with their aggressive defense... they bring it....East better get ready! I reviewed the stats for East Lincoln vs Mtn. Island and was surprised to see that East was behind by 2 scores early and still behind going into the 4th quarter....and yet... still won the game! That’s says a lot about ‘em. I’ll be curious to see how Mtn. Island fares against the ..middle of the Southwestern pack....Hilltoppers of RS Central this week. It might be a gauge on how good East Lincoln is. Maybe??

I got North Lincoln in a blowout....or...the Boom Devils in a Shootout! Maiden has struggled...at times...with stopping the run...which is concerning against those “Knights of the Round Table”. I will say that Maiden is better at it this year versus ‘19! If we can make a couple stops and slang that ball all over the place to open up some room for our running game.... it’s gonna be a great one! That’s a whole lot of Ifs, buts. and maybe’s! I’ll take it!
I’ll take the Blue Devils on a FG at the end to win it!

Maiden Creek, It's alright, my friend, it's a sensible pick and I agree, West is good... Wouldn't want you to think I've lost my mind, It's just that I have a rule of thumb to never pick against my team, and over the last few years I been wrong a bunch; but I stand and fall with Lincolnton in everything from football to street brawls, and I'm much too old for both. I know you understand being a loyal Blue Devil, (it's kind of like the fellers behind the end zone at the old Tom Brown Stadium),so here goes mine:

-Lincolnton over West for auld lang syne

-Maiden over North in a close one. Everybody says you can't go by previous games but West had a chance to beat both North and Maiden and neither gave up and won. Looking for a hard fought game with Maiden eking this one out.

-East over Bandys, sorry about that one guy1577, but East might be able to play with some of NC Preps top 10 teams. I think you're right about the Trojans being a spoiler should the Mustangs overlook them, I'd guess their coaching staff has already addressed this with them. Believe it or not, they have staff that reads these posts.
Side Note: Concerning your screen name, I know a man named Guy (his actual name, and not his surname). He was from here, and somehow ended up in the Bandys/Sherrill's Ford/Catawba area. Since there aren't many people named Guy, I was just wondering.

Ironically.... the Saturday game is scheduled at the old Tom Brown Stadium at 3pm. I was considering the possibility of rounding up the Creek gang...one last time on the fence! U know... for Auld Lang Syne! I’m not sure if we all could stand up that long! 😆
Thanks! Lincolnton.

Not sure if they still have the locker room right under press box but it would be cool to see Maiden come out through stands.

LOL. Maiden Creek, gotta hand it to them, they are loyal. They love the Blue Devils. Some years ago Maiden played a team from the northern part of the state in a playoff game, it might have been Forbush, but not sure, and the game was played at Bandys due to work being done at the new Tom Brown Stadium. It just so happened that Bandys stadium had a similar design to the old Tom Brown Stadium, or it looked like it to me, and since there was a pretty big area behind the goal posts it created an opportunity for some special Maiden fans, I wondered if it was the fellers from over at the creek.

Maiden won the game but the next day one of the opponents posters came on here and was complaining bitterly about the conduct of some Maiden fans. He called them "The Men Behind The End Zone". He did not like it one bit. LOL...I thought, wouldn't that be a great name for a spy novel, "The Men Behind The End Zone".

Playing at the old stadium, this Saturday, might give some visiting fans an opportunity to witness some original, down to earth, grass roots football fans.
I don't know if covid restrictions would prevent it but I would hate to be the one to go over there and tell them... Good luck to the Blue devils.:)

I agree, and the odds are stacked against Bandys the rest of the way this season. East Lincoln, West Lincoln, and then North Lincoln.
As far as my name, it is also the name I go by. I’m not from Lincolnton though. I married in to Bandys! I go to church with another Guy around here. My wife knows the family.

Thanks for the Info, guy1577. Good luck to the Trojans, tomorrow night. Supposed to be chilly, great football weather.

Yes it is beamer...but for a price. I don't remember which site they're streaming on.

Maiden drives into NL territory and turns it over on downs to open.

North opening drive is a 3 and out. Punt.

The high schools field is a swamp and deemed unsafe bc of the conditions. It was designed poorly and doesn't drain, but that's a rant for another time.

Maiden scores on a long drive, converting twice on 4th down and long (6 and 19). PAT good.

7-7 with 16 seconds left in the first quarter.

Maiden has to punt. North returns it to the 5.

...on a side note. Our receivers are dropping wide open fly routes. Maiden should be up by three scores

Maiden throws a pick (on the Receiver). Receiver just stared at it. No attempt to catch it.

North eventually brought to 4th down. Field goal attempt no good. Maiden ball. 51 seconds left

North opens with a fumble. Maiden scores, eventually. About 15 penalties have happened. Long XP no good. 27-14 Maiden. About 7 minutes left In the 3rd
