Finally here, conference.....

Bandys @ Maiden

LNC @ East Lincoln

North Lincoln @ West Lincoln

Lincolnton @ Newton-Conover

Bandys over Maiden
Ponies in a blowout
I will take the rebels at home versus the Knights.
Tough draw to start conference play for us. We must be able to run the football and keep Johnson bottled up as best as we can. I like our chances defensively but offensively we have some work to do.

Maiden
East Lincoln as many as they want
North Lincoln I do think WL is the real deal so wouldn't be surprised if WL beats them.
Newton-Conover

Maiden by 3
East Lincoln by 42
North Lincoln by 14
Newton-Conover by 10

Maiden lost to South Caldwell but beat Bunker. Bandy's beat South Caldwell but lost to Bunker. Granted there may have been some players that played against Bandy's for Bunker that weren't there for the Maiden game. Who knows who takes this one. I will pick Maiden's athleticism over Bandy's size.

I hear that the Defense at East is one of the best they have ever had.

I agree that West could be the real deal. They just haven't played anyone. Their schedule could hurt them if it is a dog fight as they have not had to be concerned about the score past the third drive of the game thus far.

Newton is coming off of a tough loss to a very good team. Lincolnton has beaten up on some weak Gaston County teams. Should be a good game.

North hasnt exactly played a tough schedule either.

No. But they did play a tough first game. Which makes their non-conference much tougher as a whole. They had to face adversity at least once where West has played four of the worst teams in the state. By all accounts Cherryville could get beaten by many middle school teams.

West and North. Gotta be an area game of the week. If not, it’ll at least rank in the top 3.

I will not predict the outcome of our game but you are right, our non - conference is weak as well as North. North did face adversity the first game in 3A parkwood; a team that gets all the leftovers from Sun Valley and Weddington. A team that won two games last year. I wouldn't say they have a strong non - conference based off that one game. We have thrown up alot of points against some weak opponents but are starting offence has played a grand total of 10 quarters out of 16. What everyone seems to overlook is that our defence has only allowed 6 scores all year. First string has only allowed two. Weak non - conference but when you shut down Jayden Blanton and Corey Seiner, two of the areas better backs in thier respective conference, thats a good showing. Who are the running backs for the three teams North played or better yet can we name anyone from thier teams?

That might ruffle some feathers but we are West Lincoln and we can take the bashing and criticism. Good luck to North this week and hopefully it will be a safe injury free game.

The Burke’s 2 cents-

Maiden and Bandys- great game great rivalry apart from Newton/Maiden. I expect A maiden win in a close battle as Bandys is feeling some senior loss/lost to Bunker Hill and Maiden isn’t the type team they’ve been many a years but will still put on good enough show.

Starters out before the first quarter for EL. Be a good time to practice some plays. Low gate sale, parents and girlfriends in the stands for the most part.

Lincolnton and Newton Conover- both not at the usual level. Could go either way. Can’t say I wanna predict this one but if I had to I’d say Newton by 6 in a nail bitter.

Now the thunder game- can’t add too much to what’s already been said. Both teams come in with previous cupcake schedules behind them, West especially. However if we wanna play the “my daddy tougher than your daddy” game when it comes to schedule comparisons and all the other stuff North has the slight edge and here’s why. Parkwood, Norths opening game, has athletes. Yes they only had 2 wins last year but take a good look at the conference they sit in. Most likely one of the hardest if not THE hardest 3A conference around. Even if Shelby was in that conference they wouldn’t do so hot or get a good seed in playoffs if they even went to the playoffs. Parkwood seems to be improved this year as well. And since North didn’t play to their level and prob shoulda won, that May speak volumes . East Rutherford would also be a tougher team to play against compared to the likes of Cherryville, Draughn, East Burke and Foard. That being said the schedule is just alittle tougher.

To add to this game, West will have to fend off Price to get QB time in pocket which will be pretty hard. Will face a fast QB and RB in Sorrus and Brady. DBs will be tighter on the wideouts. I generally predict a low scoring defensive affair with North making a couple key defensive stops and walking away with 14 pt victory.

Good points. Just have one question. Why will you not predict a WL victory against NL based on the high scoring WL offense and stingy defense you talked about? Lots of confidence about WL' s performance thus far but not enough to think they will beat NL? Maybe you are remembering last year when the high powered WL offense could only score 6 points on North.

My prediction:
East Lincoln
Newton
Maiden
North Lincoln (NL has too much speed for WL on both sides of the ball as well as Special Teams).

West has some very good athletes. They got wore down with about 1/2 the team going both ways.

Teams have played the whole game to the weak side of the ball. West did the same. It gets tougher to move the ball when so predictable.

Good luck to West with rest of season.

If Newton can put it all together and establish some consistency they can win this conference. My Wolves looked overmatched physically and mentally from the start. Doesn't get any easier next week.

Newton is usually tough and can be tough. Pack must be doing something good over there considering they did as much of a number on Hickory as Hunter Huss did. I know North is favored to win this conference but it’s teams like East and Newton that oughta make any North fan kinda nervous right bout now. If North is gonna take this crown this will have to be the year. Glad to see West showed up and played a great game. They oughta be a force in the olayoffs if they don’t draw Shelby first. Burns is out there as well now so that’s not a relaxing thought either.

I agree. If North is ever going to win this conference this is the year. Got to get it done while everyone else is going through a drought because it will not last forever.

They may be alittle down next year but return a good backup QB, decent RB, great Dlineman in Price and good JV fill ins. Way too early to say but should be good next year, maybe 3rd in conference and a first round playoff game. Losing Sorrus is pretty heavy.

I expect NL to be a contender for the conference title again next year along with Maiden and possibly Newton-Conover. NL does lose some key players (like Soorus and Brady) but so do the other teams in the conference. As mentioned NL will have the best defensive player in the conference back next year as well as some key players at the skill positions like QB Jack Carter, soph RBs Ty Williams and Kristjan Snyder who also play defense, WR Seth Whitely, versatile Craig Rathbone (DB, backup QB, WR, place kick holder, kick returner) just to mention a few.

Sorry guys, been tied up all weekend with softball. Congrats to North Lincoln; they are alot better team than last year. No what ifs in that game. They just outplayed us the second half. Spent half the day at Ortho doctor. Son went down with 1:20 left in the game with a possible ACL injury. Fortunately; good news today. Slightly strained; is good to go with brace for a few weeks.
