Playoffs

Honestly, I thought he was near retirement after repeating states in 2018 & 2019. Would have been perfect & the best ending story lol. It’s been 5 years since & I truly believe Willert is hungry again and would do anything for that 3rd championship so he can go ride off in the sunset. He wins that 3rd one I 100% believe he calls it quits. Nothing else to prove, you took a program over in the early 2000s who nobody respected and made it a powerhouse and state championship program. But in my opinion I believe it’s more so of who he’s going to give the reins to. He’s been at EF for over 25 years, trust me he’ll hand pick who he wants as next HC lol. Only person I legitimately thought was capable of taking over as HC & also heard legit rumors about him being the next HC was the previous DC of 6-7 years, Aaron Beal. Absolute wizard!!! Schematically, & in terms of having your players play with that mentality! But Beal decided to retire a few years ago & now is in charge of HC relations with Game of Inches platform that covers NC hs football so I have no idea lol. Also Willert is pretty young I believe early or mid 50s? So I know for sure if he does retire it won’t be because he’s too old or out of touch with the kids.

EF last night had enough talent to play with Weddington. The problem was scheme and design in the passing game. They never established any type of game whether it was run or pass. They have been throwing the deep ball all year and 50/50 balls. Their guys were really better then everyone in the area. In my opinion, the Weddington game showed that average teams and schemes will always prevail. What people fail to realize is Weddington has a identity on offense which is to basically run and take what you give them. I saw with my own eyes what they did to EF with the run game. They execute inside zone better than any school I have ever seen play yet. They also run counter really well. EF HC had a great team but defensively they were soft!
Talent in Winston is dry and with Bryce leaving there is not another QB that I can say can bring them through. You will see a lot of HCs stepping down especially with the new realignment that the county is preparing for. I can't wait to see how this shakes when the smoke settles.

Weddington barely beat Butler. I'm thinking Grimsley or Hough would beat W by 21 minimum.
Always remember styles makes fights. Weddington is going to be hard to beat! They are proven and Grimsley is too. However this game will come down to the run game and special teams. I got Weddington by 10pts!

Not their fault, but Weddington was gifted an easy bracket, and a very horrendous tackling East Forsyth. Hough & Grimsley are a minimum of 21 points better. They’re not a Juggernaut. 42-10 Grimsley

The defense was that good before Beal arrived. He along with 2 other coaches made that defense what it was. Beal was Co coordinator with another coach. Beal usually handled interior D and the other coach ran DB'S. Beal was instrumental but I promise you it was by committee. None of the coaches that made that defense what it was are there now. I believe it's schematics as well. EF used to man you up and get to the QB. They do nothing like that now. It's tough watching what they've become defensively. Smh.

Not wanting to bash the other coaches because they are all very good. Bit lets face it. East had never been past the 3rd round before the former DC. Haven't been past 3rd rd but 1 time and that was this year.

Grimsley has a better run game than Weddington
After the game I will explain my breakdown. I already know what they are going to do. You are right Grimsley does have the better run game. I actually think they both are even on defense. This is going to come down to field position and scheme.

Beal is mad cool is the reason I won't totally blow your misguided info out the water. Facts are a certain coach left EF. Beal ran a cover 4 with the studs he had (see playoff games he lost right before both championships). A certain coach returns and takes over DB's running man free and now we have 2 state championships. There wasn't but one coordinator until AFTER the 2 championships. If you compare info you're giving me your perspective without facts. The info I'm giving you can only be attained certain ways. Read between the lines again. It's OK to have multiple coaches take credit for championships. I know the other Co D coordinator on that staff and saw the defense turn around when they went man. I also know the D line coach was second to none. Like I said they literally had 3 HC on that defense side of ball. It's no coincidence that's part of their issue now. Talk about something you know please because this isn't it.

Ain't gonna lie, this new plan ain't got that hustle, one-on-one vibe that worked for us back in the day. It's hella frustrating watchin' the D stop bein' on the QB's neck and playin' close to their dudes.
