I guess in a technical sense that's true but let's not pretend it's the same thing because it isn't.Preferred Walk Ons are guaranteed a roster spot and are recruited. Just means no scholarship. Those with PWO's are given the future opportunity to earn a scholarship. So, if they are on a D1 team, they went D1. They count.
They were a special team, no debate but 4 D1 scholarship players is not unheard of in 1A football, Murphy's 1986 team had 5 scholarship D1 signees, two of the five went on to be multi year starters in the ACC and SEC respectively.That cardinal group was special. 5 d1 players in 1a football is unheard of.
