This is from 2023 after the flood of 2021 ruined their stadium and baseball and softball fields. Took 2 years to get it back and now have to somehow do it again! Heart breaking for this community. Helene was as high as 5 rows from the top bleachers this time. Cost them a Million dollars last time. Also the local mill closed a month ago.

That was a beautiful field...I wonder at what point would they consider moving it away from the river?
If we can find affordable property, that point would be now. However, there are two major issues: 1. We’re a town built around a river, so we have a lot of property in the flood plain and the flood plain keeps growing. 2. 75% of the people in the United States want to move to WNC right now, so property values are sky high.

Four different floods within 20 years all bringing their own version of destruction. This one holds the distinction of the highest water levels to ever pass through Canton and Clyde.

Hampton High School in TN that y’all played the last two years got hit hard to. During the school board meeting a TEMU person said they want get any money if the school stays in the same spot.

Have they talked about going back to a grass field compared to turf? Elkin HS field floods with heavy rains but seems to be ok after a few days.
I’ve heard speculative talks about the possibility of that happening but I’m not sure how many official talks have been had about it.

Yes, I saw about their school. Personally, I can’t ever see another game being played at our current field but when factoring in the budget and knowing a new school is needed for Canton Middle School, also it is very difficult to imagine where the money for the property purchase and the money to construct the fields comes from.

This isn’t just a football field problem. Fields that need to be moved are high school football, baseball, and softball and middle school baseball and softball. Some can combine but scheduling would be difficult.

The flood that came this past weekend annihilated some buildings/structures in Canton that had only be touched, or passed, by floodwaters in the past 3 floods. We keep hearing 100 year flood, 500 year flood, historical, to the point that I don’t know that terms are currently relevant for our community. If the communities of Cruso, Bethel, Canton, and Clyde had not already been flood ravaged in the past, and had so many homes/structures already hauled away in dumpsters from around the river, this past weekend would have been unimaginably worse. Other communities got it for the first time in a while, regardless, I hate it for all of us

When my wife watched the board meeting it sounded like the county wouldn’t get any money if the school stayed where it’s at in Hampton,TN.
