Patton

Are they in a split conference?
Polk is the only 1A school in their conference, but they petitioned to go back down to 1A after the conference was formed. It was originally all 2A schools with Patton, the Rutherford County schools, Polk, Brevard and Hendersonville.

Coaching is a tough deal a lot of people thinks it is a piece of cake but it doesn't sound like it!!

Patton is 2A. Goggio stayed for one season and didn't win a game. I thought he might be in it for the long haul. I wonder what is going on over on Enola road.
Burke County should have never opened Patton AND Draughn High Schools. The talent was spread too thin in Burke County to compete at the different levels they are in at this time.

Too good to have their kids going to school with all the undesirables huh. Now they are average at everything. People better watch out though. Freedom will get the kids with who they got now.
The old EB/FHS school lines were basically the eastern city limits of Morganton to the Catawba River in the north and then down highway 18 south until you got about 7-8 miles from town. Once FHS had almost 2700 kids and EB was around 1800 they decided to build a third high school. It was going to be midway between the two existing schools, close to Drexel.
The Valdese people objected saying they had been promised “their own school” since consolidation in the early 70s. What they meant was a school in Valdese, which Draughn only kinda sorta is, but whatever. Obviously, that was too close to EB to bus kids from Morganton, which is the county population center.
So, we ended up building two new high schools: Patton and Draughn. The proposed third school would have evened out the school population by taking kids from Morganton, Salem and Drexel and leaving those to the east to EB and those to the west to FHS. Now, kids from most of Morganton and Salem go to Patton and Draughn gets Drexel, Valdese and Rutherford College. That leaves Freedom with over 1400 kids, Patton and EB with about 850ish each and Draughn with 700 or so. It was all local politics, but it was objections from Valdese people that set it all in motion.

Really wished we could’ve only done 1 extra high school. 4 high schools in the district and not a one and the same conference. Hopefully Patton can find a good coach and not lose players to the other high schools.

Come to think of it, it is kinda weird Patton and east Burke don't share a conference

It’s frustrating to us cause we have to drive over a hour sometimes 2 1/2 just to play a conference game and we have 3 schools within ten minutes!

I will forever wish that Glen Alpine would have remained a separate school system and never consolidated into Burke County Schools.
In Gaston County, most people in Mt Holly and Stanley feel the same way about their former high schools. At least the one's of us that are still alive and remember when.

If given time. Justin hawn wouldn't be a bad hire for Patton. He's not far away and he's actually a good coach

Given a coach time this day in time is hard parents are Monday morning QB'S never happy. I thought Hawn was getting the Freedom program turned around.
