If that’s who is best, then yes! You should want the best coaches in those positions. If they happen to be from Murphy, then that’s who should be in the jobs! They shouldn’t get pushed to the side just to make it “fair”. It should be who is best qualified.
Look at all the other big number schools that haven’t had a quarter of the success as Murphy. It’s got nothing to do with numbers, but keep telling yourself that. Jealous much?
It's simple..Fill out an application and resume ..Hire the most qualified..Every single Murphy coach will be hired..Fair is fair..winning coaches=winning programs. How you gonna hire a yearly 5-5 football coach vs a coach with 7 state championship appearances?

I agree with you. Unfortunately there are too many people in the county who hate Murphy and would rather lose with new coaches than win with Murphy coaches. All out of spite, IMO.
Well you better be preaching to some of your own then. Murphy people were not surprised how your season went. Basically had the whole team back from a Spring championship and was picked to win this Fall. Not everyone in Murphy is happy with how things played out with what you brought back. But I guess this conversation was enough to strengthen the reason for not consolidating. But we can’t stop progress can we. Sad they will never be the Murphy Bulldogs, Andrews Wildcats or HD Eagles after this plays out
To remove him from women’s basketball coach would be totally insane. I say make him AD also
It's always about the players, funny how Murphy had no athletes before Coach Gentry, Never patted myself on the back, I have stayed in my lane ,but I may just run for school board, don't think I have to be to smart for that.
Gentry was the Head Coach !!!! Basically had the entire team from the Spring which won the State Championship back for this season and was a heavy favorite to win this year so what happened !! It doesn’t matter but I sure ruffled some feathers about the Cherokee County Murphy Bulldogs upcoming sports programs in 1A division LMBO CARRY ON
We did win this fall (actually 9 times) and we did make it to the fourth round of the playoffs in a undivided 1A while beating the #1 seed handily. There’s some people who aren’t going to be happy no matter what. There was hardly anytime at all between seasons and the coaching change. People that don’t see that as a success have no freaking clue about what it takes to run a program and win.
Murphy was actually without a few key pieces from last spring. Muhgarbil, Davis, and Rathburn were all big losses from that team, and losing a 38 year HC, a DC, and longtime OL coach was a little much to overcome in such a short time. All things considered, Watson did pretty well. Nine wins, fourth round with wins over Mtn Heritage (2a runner up) and Eastern Randolph looks pretty good to me. Sure not winning it all is disappointing, but winning it all is hard to do, especially back to back.

Actually that would’ve been the greatest thing ever to win not only back to back state championships but in the same year. Get real. We lost several big time players from the spring and had several injuries during the year. Overall, this season was a success. Fourth round is nothing to be ashamed of.
I thought Murphy did fine. I enjoyed the beat down you put on ER and personally I thought after watching that game you guys could win it all !! I think a lot of Murphy people wanted Nelson and that goes to my point I’m trying to make. When the new school is built not everyone is going to be happy !! Time will tell and if things don’t work out changes can be made. Hope I didn’t get everyone’s blood pressure up.
Well State Championship should be Andrews by your philosophy they bring back their entire team.
I would hope when all the schools combine, they do take all the coaches into account. Consolidation also means loss of jobs too. What the coaching staff at Andrews is doing is turning heads. Murphy proving there's life after Gentry. Don't know much of the staff at HD. All 3 schools surely have a choice of the positions to choose from. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out over time when it comes to fruition. A lot of pressure on whoever the new staff is and you know there will be a lot of bitter people too.
Seen a 4a school get beat by a 1a this year…

Think about it like this though. What if an Andrews coach actually had the athletes that Murphy had. Would that make their programs better? As an Andrews graduate, having any Murphy coach at this new school makes me cringe BUT, there is no denying that there are coaches from Murphy that should represent the school because they are good coaches. Such as womens basketball coach.

Oh you forgot, Andrews doesn’t have the numbers. Andrews 200 Murphy 550 - 125 = 425 to stay in 1A. I guarantee IF we had those numbers Andrews would have a few State Titles in a few different sports. Then our coaches would be exalted up high. It’s nice to have 8 to 12 lineman to use throughout the game ! It’s nice to have a stable of 6 backs to run throughout the game without losing a step. Let me refresh your memory Murphy was 2A and won a State title !! Willie Brown, Johnny Queen etc But Murphy didn’t want to travel long distances to play other 2A teams after Franklin and Sylva Webster moved up. That’s when the strings were pulled and the numbers game began. I’m no young pup and I know how things went to get Murphy to where they are !! That is you history lesson for today
Haha! We’d like to have those numbers of players too!! We struggled with lineman being hurt all year and we only had 2-3 backs. Don’t know where in the crap you get your numbers, but I hope they make you feel better in your reasoning. Murphy actually has 435 students so I don’t know where you get those numbers. TCEC and TOA are totally separate schools. Murphy did have over 600 students about 20 years ago but they’ve decreased with plants moving out, etc. I don’t think our county wants to lose thousands of dollars they get per student just to pad numbers for football. Get a brain!
How many times over the years has posters made the comment that other small teams might be able to keep it fairly close for maybe a half ?? They made those statements because they knew the numbers were on their side and being able to run fresh lineman and backs in all night would eventually wear smaller teams down. Hard fact !!
That is absolutely not a hard fact. Like I said, I don’t know where you’re getting that we had all these lineman and backs. You obviously haven’t watched any Murphy games.

They came in 5th and Andrews had some really good athletes, even though supposedly Murphy gets all the athletes and that’s why their coaches are so good. That dude has no clue.

Andrews will probably send a lot to the ville. Especially the topton side of the county. I’ll be glad too. Much rather see them in a Black Knights uniform than the new “black and gold”
I expect the same, initially, but once the hurt feelings are over with and some get a taste of the new facilities that too will end except for a select few, won't last more than a generation.
I don’t think it will honestly. A lot of times facilities are not a deciding factor. In college, yes it does with some players. Drive time is a huge factor in that too. Topton/Granny Squirrel kids can get to Robbinsville in 25 minutes. To the new school in Peachtree, almost 45
Of course you are hoping Andrews and HD get their way so that the football program at the new school will never threaten Robbinsville. I gotta say I don’t blame you one bit.
