Mitchell @ Mount Airy 11/26/21 4th Round

The mountain vs flatland thing comes up quite a bit during the playoffs and already mentioned here but as far as comparing MA to Mtn teams in playing like them but in this game I guess it's what you consider mountain or not. Officially Mt Airy is in the Piedmont just one county to the east of being in the Appalachian mountain chain but I guess you can also look at elevation. Below 1000ft is usually concerned piedmont ( though some official App Mtn towns are) below 500ft we're pretty bad to call you flatlanders even though that's 400 ft + higher then the coastal plains counties.
You have the SMC definitely mountain teams being in the thick of the Appalachian Mtn chain but only one of the towns Robbinsville is above 2,000 ft , Mt Airy is 1,115ft, 489 ft lower then Murphy but higher then the official App Mtn town of North Wilksboro who's @ 988ft.
I don't for some reason I've just thought of Surry county schools like I do the lower Piedmont schools
The only amount of feet that will matter in this game is the 300 feet on the field and it's all level.

It’s really an attitude and the way you’ve had to live. Flatlanders got life easier. We don’t get anything given to us. We have to fight for everything. Most mountain families are either self made or trying to be. State doesn’t know there’s life past i85 so we grow trees and we work in mines. Very similar to life in eastern part of the state. Y’all got the triad and pumpkin spiced lattes and we have the mountains, hunting dogs, and grow up fighting for every inch.
I'm a miner myself that's how I make a living

They have advertised all the games this season. I haven't watched any because I went to the games. All the equipment is there
Well they must just be advising it but not actually showing them because there should be some of the games on demand but the only ones that are were away games.

I hate to get away from this interesting topic on who's poorer the who...But I noticed that NFHS shows this game as an upcoming game but I don't believe any of Mt Airy home games have been on there before have they? At least there's none on demand.
They stream the games. I watched some of the Mount Airy game last night. I also caught some of the Murphy game.

Well they may not pay attention to us as far as roads and infrastructure as we may like but they know we're here, the purest Quartz in the world comes out of Mitchell county something they haven't beable to make synthetically though they try and the words computer chips can't be made without. Once they had a fire at one of the Unimin plants and homeland security was came right over though I don't why they think terrorist would attack such a place they like their cellphones and computers too.

Come to Mount Airy early and visit our Granite Quarry the largest open face Quarry in the world. The review below was posted by someone from Tennessee.

So large it can be seen from outer space!

The nice lady at the Mount Airy Visitor's Center encouraged us to visit this quarry. It is about 2 miles out of town but very easy to find. Just look for the large NCGQ sign out front. Turn left and drive a small distance to the quarry office on the left. Go inside and pick up a very interesting booklet on the quarry and well as a really cool square piece of granite actually made at the quarry (free)! From there you will drive another small distance to the observation area. The admission is free but please stay behind the fence. This place is HUGE! It is one mile long and about one-third mile wide. We were told that astronauts use the quarry as a "landmark" to view from outer space. Several famous buildings and monuments are made from the granite here including the World War II memorial in Washington, DC.

All of the massive equipment in use looked like little Tonka toys in comparison to the size of the quarry. The granite goes about 6,000-8,000 feet deep and there is enough granite to mine for another 500-600 years! This place is a must-see on your visit to Mount Airy.

If I come which right now I'm planning to but it'll be just anytime hopefully to get a good seat. My youngest daughter who I've seen once this year is coming in for Thanksgiving and I want to spend much time with her as I can.

Socialist. Lol.

I think these two games will be dog fights for sure. It’ll be interesting to see mt airy. Looking forward to going up there. Where’s the best hole in the wall place to eat?
Harry's in Elkin is the BEST Whole in Wall but if you are not that at 5 PM when it opens you will wait and hour and be late for the game. Mt Airy plenty of easting establishments but not any famous hole in wall type at night.
The Derby might come the closet to that, 80 plus years old and good family style food.

There isn't much of a difference in the demographics and struggles of the people in the western reaches and Surry County. Sadly Surry has the highest opiod overdose rate in the nation.

Right at a 1/3 of Surry is in the Blue Ridge Mountains with the highest peak being Fishers Peak over 3200 feet in elevation.

This game will be a game of who has the ball the most and hang into it. I know Mitchell is well coached and don’t beat themselves. MA does have a few athletes and I’m not sure what Mitchell has in regard to athletes. I’m sure Mitchell will be bigger than MA. I’m going with Mitchell 27 MA 24. Best of luck to both teams.

What cha thank wicked , the bears should just stay at the house on thanksgiving at home. Save the mountaineers a little Gas money. I have a feeling you could be a little surprised around 10:30 next Friday night.
No. But I do think Mitchell wins. But you know what, I think Robbinsville would love a shot at the Bears.

Whatcha thank buzzz , should the bears even show up to play this elite team from ledger?
Let’s see so far from Mitchell fans, we have:
-Going on a Bear hunt, not scared.
-Not a dang word about MA
-Fells like Mitchell upset Tville
-others bragging on Mitchell
-Blowhard bowl
-Don’t upset TD
-crap conference how will MA react To being punched in mouth?
-Bears unknown due to competition
-everyone pounding chest
-Lots of back and forth on Mtns vs foothills and quartz, Nothing about football
-all about matchups
-comparing to 2019, yes, no, maybe
-pretty even due to weaker schedule
-eat cupcakes in regular season
-silver spoon
-NFHS
-Robbinsville
-dog fight, hole in wall to eat?
-want to see big hole in ground
-plastic
-making fun of yuppies
-Mt Airy way better than ER
-Mayberry gonna steal our announcers

Personally I don’t see a lot of chest bumping and bragging here from Mitchell folks. I think we all feel like this will be a huge “hill” to climb. Is Mitchell in Awe, naw they aren’t. Will they show up and play there guts out. I have no doubt about that. Will it be enough. I don’t know.

Lots of talk about the MA bragging but I will admit I don’t care who MA has played to only give up 25 points this season is dog gone impressive. Hopefully the Mitchell line will give, 2 and 22 a crease to run through. For Mitchell to win I think their Defense will have to be lights out to keep the score low.

Man hope I can get off work early enough to get there.

Go Mountaineers

Cool, that’s 300 feet lower than my house. Didn’t know Surry was that mountainous

Great post! I don’t have a dog in this fight but due to a couple friends purple1995 being one I’m HAVING to pull for Mitchell.
