Mack is Back Part 2

Stolen excerpts from ESPN... The names have been changed to protect the innocent and FAT MACK

Dear JV division,

We had fun together, didn't we? For 18 years, you provided the amusement, and the college football world provided the memes, a loving tribute to embracing the chaos. What other league has a Wheel of Destiny, originally conceived as a roulette wheel featuring all the JV ACC teams, each – thinking beyond thinking that one day Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginiaand Virginia Techwould all finish 4-4?

Alas, that never happened, but remember that time in 2012 when Georgia Tech, Miami and North Carolina finished atop the division in a three-way tie at 5-3, but because the Hurricanes and Tar Heels were ineligible thanks to NCAA sanctions, Georgia Tech played in the ACC championship game? HOW ABOUT THOSE TAR HEELS where they a still had rings made that said "2012 ACC Coastal Champions. Now that is a participation Trophy!

What other division had a coach say before media day every year that you would have a better chance of picking a Coastal champion by drawing a name out of a hat than making an actual prediction? It was not always this bad and people probably forget this, but in the beginning the Coastal was the stronger division, with Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech battling for the crown. But as those schools and Miami dipped, it became far less predictable, and a special kind of chaos reserved only for the Coastal Division ensued: seven different champions over a seven-year stretch, starting with Duke (!!) in 2013. If you count Notre Dame in 2020 when there were no divisions during the pandemic season, that would be eight in eight years.

Dave Harding, a player on that 2013 Duke team once said, "For the fans, the Coastal was chaos because you could never figure it out. As a player, you knew/believed you had a shot in every game. Gave a confidence which probably furthered the chaos because teams that might have rolled over in other divisions kept fighting in ours."

Maybe that is not fair. We know this all feels like constant ridicule, but the memes and gifs and catchphrases are really just a celebration of what makes you so unique. Take Georgia Tech this season. After the Yellow Jackets fired coach Geoff Collins four games in, they ended up beating the top three teams in the Coastal, including division winner North Carolina. Very Coastal, you might say.

Meanwhile, the team picked to win the Coastal last year only to finish fifth, won it this year despite losing its last two ACC games of the season. The Coastal has done more to even the playing field than any other division, and has served up more highlights, lowlights, unpredictability, laughter, memes and gifs. all deserved !

Fare-thee-well, JV division. But before you go, is there any chance at one more Coastal Chaos moment on Saturday night when North Carolina plays Clemson in the ACC championship game? You know ... just for old time's sake.

Does Maye require an oxygen mask? To chuck such a pass is unusual for him. He perceived blue in orange. This is just awful.

Where in the world was Maye throwing that ball
BAD PASS! But look at the drive before the half when they settled for a FG. Very similar. Run, pass, pass. How about running the ball there on second down after you just picked up five on first down?

You have to break tendencies against Clemson defense. UNC hasn't done a very good job of that among other things. Red zone offense has been terrible.

Three “L” in a row. They started the year treat. They folded like a cheap tarp late. Yep Mac’s back alright.😂🤣

I love State fans 😂. Haven't won anything in 40 years, but they have an excuse for everything! Refs, cheating, harder schedule...There isn't a fan base out there with a persecution complex like State fans.
Well in spite of all of that .. State has managed to go 6-4 against UNC the last 10 years.. even though they suck and DD is a terrible coach..... however,,,, 6-4 is good enough to win a trip to conference championship game in the JV division. One thing for sure DD would not be awarding participation rings when tying for Varsity title while being on probation... that displays a special kind of character...and even a more special character to actually wear it. and even more special character to celebrate it li

It ebbs and flows. You can cherry pick winning streaks. Neither one has been very good which frankly is inexcusable. We'll finish with nine wins and a slightly better SOS. State is about .500 against the Coastal. So, again, the JV nonsense is just another persecutory delusion for 40 years of futility.

UNC Looks good enough to finish 4th or 5th in the varsity league. Maybe a 4-4 record. However, Mack would have to lose about 40 pounds
But doesn’t Donut Dave have a 50% winning percentage against the JV league?

It's basically Clemson and everyone else. Take away Clemson and the Atlantic is 7-5 against the Coastal. That's with the Coastal being terrible. Clemson has won seven of the last eight, so you're going to have to beat them regardless to win anything.

Correct.

Folks act like 9 wins wasn't the ceiling with this program. Below is the prediction I made on August 9th. Right where I thought we'd be with one more chance to get to double-digit wins in most likely, the Gator Bowl. Go Heels & Bears!

They exceeded expectations in my opinion. If Clemson does not replace DJ Uiagalelei, the Heels would've had a good shot of winning that game.

Dabo is smart but this whole QB thing has been really weird all year as it was clear DJ was struggling. Freshman looked great last night and not only was it because of who he was playing but the play below was just an absolute DIME. He's the real deal with both his legs and his arm.

Excuses and more excuses... you are good at that.... Frankly our record is better against the JV division.... but not as good as it is against UNC..
