Mack is Back Part 2

All the talk about the Tar Heel defense being bad but the adjustments that Chizek makes throughout the game, 2nd half Tar Heel defense is really good.
Correct. They've kept a perfect conference record. UNC's defense has excelled. The team led by Gene Chizik will try to maintain its momentum and success going forward and win the remaining games. With 287 yards out of the backfield, only Notre Dame has gained more rushing yards and defeated North Carolina. Going forward, linebackers Cedric Gray, Noah Taylor, and Power Echols must all play at the highest level. Carolina's defense has demonstrated its ability to stop the run so well that Chapel Hill might hear the Victory Bell ring.

Absolutely. It’s important to not look ahead to that Clemson game and lose a game they shouldn’t the next two weeks. With that being said, I’m looking forward to being in Charlotte in December!

Noah Taylor was announced out for the year weeks ago.

All I will say, is if you still trust this defense you are fooling yourself. Yes, they have gotten a lot better, but still have a long ways to go.
With the offense Carolina possesses led by Heisman front runner the defense doesn’t have to be great, just needs to be good.

I concur with you. Hopefully, the improvement will remain constant.

Defense is not good but guess what, you could make that argument about 80% of the Power 5 teams. Handful of teams have the front 4 to get pressure on a QB without blitzing constantly.

HENDON HOOKER
6TH year Senior
Season Stats:
71.1% Comp | 2,888 Yards | 10.1 YPA | 24 TDs | 2 INTs
Hooker was at the peak of his powers when Tennessee beat Alabama but came up short against Georgia.

DRAKE MAYE
Freshmen
Season Stats:
70.1% Comp | 3,412 Yards | 9.5 YPA | 34 TDs | 3 INTs
Maye is slinging it all over the place and looks pretty darn good doing it.

It may be the offensive set or the way Hooker plays/feels comfortable but he seems to set up very close to the line of scrimmage. I always thought a bit more drop allows for some extra time and sight line. In the Georgia game an extra bit of space may have helped.

I visited U of M once and some of their buildings and different departments are directly connected so no one has to walk outside during the winter lol. Way too cold for me.
Great campus. Do you remember watching the Michigan v Ohio State, Oklahoma v Nebraska, and Notre Dame games (Sundays with Lindsey Nelson) with the brutal cold and snow. Great times.

It's a gorgeous campus. It reminded me a bit of Chapel Hill, except instead of one Franklin St, they have about ten! That could've just been me (an impressionable visitor), but that was one of my main takeaways.

Lindsey Nelson, I don't know when he retired, but I was fairly young when he passed. I do remember some of the old Big12 rivalries played in that type of weather. It's a shame we've lost those. And of course U of M and OSU. You're right. Great games.

You basically described my childhood. LOL
Like you I was a #2 fan. Loved Tom Clements. Vivid memory of the Sugar Bowl after the 1972 season. Clements to Robin Weber.

Met Clements a couple of times and I asked him about UNC basketball. He said no one ever asks about that only ND football or NFL coaching. Dean Smith recruited PA heavily. Larry Miller, Dennis, Wuycik. Steve Previs, George Karl. Clements was a hot target for him before he opted to go the football route.

Great story as I'm both a UNC and Green Bay Packer fan.

USCjr is putting on my Vols. Rattler having the game of his life right now

Wet the bed big time after the 17-0 lead. Downs dropping a wide open TD for the lead. A big TD run being negated due to a hold etc. Turrible.

Well maybe we will meet in a bowl and the Heels can score 100 on this Vols defense. Rattler 30-37 438 6TDs

I looked it up before the game tonight. We're ranked outside the top 100 in run defense, passing yards allowed, scoring defense, team sacks and TFL.

We shared a locker room with Clements. Montana and Rudy, too.
And Clements to Weber to beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl for the National Championship was after the 1973 season, not 1972. Brainiac. We thought you were the accurate historian. Just another in a long line of your mistakes.
A side note, Alabama still claims 1973 as one of their Titles. What a joke.
A better basketball recruiting story was Sloan and NC State going after Pennsylvania’s Montana, who was All State in Football and Basketball. State assistant Eddie Biedenbach who sat with us at a recent Lenoir Rhyne event, confirmed the story Joe had told me years before. Biedenbach had also recruited Shelby’s David Thompson and wanted Joe there to play on Thompson’s final team. State had just won the 1974 College Basketball National Championship with David as Player of the Year.
But Notre Dame had just won the 1973 College Football National Championship.
Tough choice for Mr Montana.
The rest is history.

Another side note, David’s older brother, the late Vellie Jr., who David credited as better than him and his basketball mentor, worked with us at our company as a truck driver for 4 years.
Nicest guy you would ever meet. RIP
It made for some great pick up games between our brothers and those brothers.

btango, we can drop names as much as you do.
We just choose not to.

I'm pretty bummed about the loss. Not because I expected us to win 10 or 11 games, but because it came against GaTech in a very winnable game.

The entire System is broken, after watching games this weekend. Automatic bid, for all conference champions .
