Huss at Shelby

on a side note I knew the 2AA West would be the bracket of death

If I were to make comparisons I would say EL is like Virginia Tech, Monroe is like Louisville, Shelby is like Clemson, and Huss is Penn State. Huss is dangerous if they decide to show up.

All Shelby!!!! The only quality Huss win was against SP. SP doubled them in yardage but a fumble by SP first and goal at the Huss 1 yardline resulted in 99 yard fumble return for a TD by Huss to steal the win. Uncharacteristical mistake by the Raiders.

Shelby does not have a whole lot of quality wins either.

Sure, we do! ACR and South Point are both contenders in 3AA and 3A, they are two of the hottest teams in the state. Crest, Burns, and Kings Mountain were all quality opponents. Your constant sandbagging isn't a good look.

Although 3A is weak this year especially in that big south, Huss played Porter Ridge(4A) close losing by a fieldgoal, beat South Point(3A) Forestview(3A), Ashbrook(3A), Parkwood(3A)<---Monroe also beat Parkwood.

Monroe had a brutal 3A schedule beating most of their 3A/3AA opponents. I don't think they had any 2A opponents in the regular season.

Shelby has a stronger schedule than EL but weaker than Huss and Monroe

Also of note Hunter Huss and Monroe are playing with 3A ADMs in the 2AA playoffs.

El Choppo, you failed to mention Hunter Huss losing to one of our so called, not a quality opponents, 3A Burns, and yeah, both Hunter Huss and Monroe are 3A teams in the 2AA division. Heck, Monroe is probably 3AA, seriously.

Many of you are underestimating Huss. Huss has continued to get better as the year has gone on. Huss is a better team than the one who played Burns and SP for that matter. I attended the Huss game Friday and I heard nothing but respect coming from the Huss fans about Shelby. Defensively Huss front seven is as good as any that Shelby has faced and they are really fast to the ball. Although they have great athletes in their secondary they tend to give up big plays in the passing game from time to time because they like to peek in the backfield some. Offensively their backs are really fast and their wide outs are big time athletes. They tend to bog down some because you can count on them getting 7-8 offensive penalties a game. This game will come down to whoever can win the trenches. Can Huss run block and can Shelby pass block. I don't think that Huss will be able to block Shelby's d-line but I do not think that Shelby's qb will not have a lot of time to sit in pocket either. Also Huss has the best return man in the area by far and he is a threat every time he touches the ball. If Huss does not give up big plays in the passing game than this game will be tight because Huss front seven on d is legit.

With all due respect to SHS Lion and a couple of other Shelby posters. You guys deserve a lot of respect. You are three time defending champs. You're undefeated this season and well on your way to a fourth. Again with all due respect to Dax and the Lions. I hate the kid is hurt. A few weeks back, the point was brought up about Reidsville having key injuries and how much it hurt us last season. Several posters stated it wouldnt hurt Shelby. When you loose Dax, Foster's, Chestnut's, Surratt's or other high quality players in 2a ball it has an effect. This isnt a talk smack about Shelby post. It's actually a compliment to what you've achieved over the last three years. It gets harder and harder to do it again, again and again. If you win it again this year, you deserve it. If someone knocks you off.... they beat one hell of a team. They're a lot of folks on both sides of the whole Reidsville Shelby deal that everyone knows are just talking to hear themselves talk. I respect both programs highly. The two most respected football programs in NCHSAA history. I hope Dax is better and can play through our the playoffs

Huss has a freshman QB right?

True I overlooked the Burns loss.

Huss has no chance in this one. For information : South Point had both OTs out/injured against Shelby but Defense played well (held Shelby to 24 points). Played worst game of the year against Huss. Played 2nd half with 5 starters out of game injured, plus fumble return for 99 yd touchdown (14 point swing). Huss won't hold Shelby to 24 points, maybe not 48 and will have trouble scoring. Don't get your hopes up

Huss has a freshman QB right?
They've played musical chairs w/ their quarterbacks. They started the season with a sophomore, then went to the freshman, now they're playing a junior at quarterback, no. 4, Crawford Chandler.

Another interesting tidbit, since we're talking schedules. This doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but since we're talking schedules, I just thought I'd slide this on in there. We did beat AC Reynolds, who absolutely destroyed Erwin, who beat Sun Valley, who beat Monroe w/ their star quarterback at the helm. Maybe Monroe's so called brutal schedule wasn't so brutal, maybe... maybe not.

Yep, 1992. We were down to Huss 13-0 at the half. Robert Williams, who was a sophomore at that time, returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, we came back and won that game 20-13. Huss had a running back named Curtis Boyd who was stocky and a flat out burner.

You guys were blown out last year and 2 years before that, and use that as an excuse every time, rather than give credit to the better team, and It gets on my damn nerves. Lincolnton was flat out better! Shelby was flat out better! Every team has injuries this late in the season.

In my opinion, I don't think losing Dax would hurt us, despite how great he is, because we are absolutely loaded at linebacker. Now, if we were to lose the quarterback or Borders, that would be too detrimental of a blow for us. We're young and inexperienced at quarterback. The starter is a junior and a first year starter, himself. Borders is an all state player, small school All American, the best athlete on the team, bar none. He's a threat to score anytime he touches the ball w/ his breakaway speed.

We're so loaded at linebacker, we had to figured our ways to get the sophomore Scott on the field earlier in the season, and he's a bonified D1 prospect.

Not making excuses. We got beat. Injuries to key players hurt. I don't care who you are. Does it prevent you from winning a 4th title...who knows? Look at what some of your own fans are saying. I hope the kid gets healthy and can play. The game is better with him in it.

Not to sound conceited, it's factual. Linebacker is our deepest position, that and D line. The game is absolutely better w/ Dax in it, but we have studs at that position, value, his absence wouldn't derail our chances at a state championship, in my opinion, due to the depth that we have at that position.

People thought we'd suffer once we lost our star running back earlier this season. Running backs come a dime a dozen at Shelby. You can find kids walking the halls that can play running back. We lose the quarterback or Borders, call it a season, though.

It did hurt, have some affect, but when you're absolutely destroyed, you just lost to a better team. Lincolnton had an unstoppable running back last year. The year we destroyed you, you just weren't very good, you lacked leadership at quarterback among other things.

@FBCapitolofNC i hope Reidsville remain so called injury free this year, so in the event that y'all lose, you and Tarfeelfan1 don't use that redundant, played out excuse. I wish we could go back and look at some of y'alls posts from the previous seasons, since y'all have been in the West. Just like this season, you all posted confidently until y'all were beaten, then used the injury excuse.

Y'all are so called healthy this season. You have your best quarterback ever, your best team ever. It appears that you all are on a collision course w/ Lincolnton, who pretty much returns the same team from last year. You guys will be favorited, but what could be that drastically different with both programs pretty much returning their same teams from last year. Lincolnton is actually better offensively this season. It's going to be interesting. If you lose, give props to the better team, please.

The years ago was when our QB lost his mind, acted a fool and basically quit on his teammates. You guy beat us bad. You won't hear any Reidsville fan say anything different. The next year it was close. If my memory is correct it was 14 or 17 to 7 (CRS). Last year in addition to injuries, we didn't have a lot of leadership and it wasn't up to Reidsville standards.

Some posters won't but if you look at my posts, I've always given credit where credit is due. Never gave I said this year or any Reidsville team is unbeatable. This time of year anyone can beat anyone.

The only problem with Huss is they start slow, and Shelby starts fast. In just about every blow out win the points come in the 3rd and 4th quarter. It should be a good game if Huss decides to play from the opening kickoff. They are very athletic and when they played SP I believe the were without 2 of their best offensive players too (Danner and I think another back) if Huss plays all 4 quarters 28-24 Shelby. If they don't show up till the second half 49-42 Shelby. Huss doesn't like to take starters out that's why I think the score will be higher that way. It 28-0 with 6 to go in the 4th Friday night and still throwing the deep ball with most of the starters, so if you get up big early expect the starters all game from Huss

To answer a few questions...

Last time Shelby played Huss was 1992 at Huss in Week 2 - Shelby won 27-13.

Last time Shelby played Reidsville
2014 - Rd 3 - Shelby at Reidsville - Shelby won 17-7
Total yards - Shelby 333 / Reidsville 88
First downs - Shelby 17 / Reidsville 7

In my opinion, Shelby and Reidsville have never played each other when BOTH teams had one of their top 5 all-time teams. They seem to always play when one is way up and the other is very good but not great. This year was a year they are both great, but we won't get to see them play because of the split divisions.

I think the best Reidsville team that Shelby played was in the 2007 state championship game (28-20 Reidsville win). That Reidsville team was stacked and had athletes everywhere. Shelby was coming off a great 3-year run with Darryl Montgomery, Van Eskridge, Tavorris Jolly, Arsenio Parks, Preston Roseboro, etc...and somehow got to the championship game that year after losing all of those players to graduation over the previous few seasons. Would have loved to see the 2005 or 2006 Shelby team play the 2007 Reidsville team.

In the 2013 and 2014 meetings, in my opinion, Shelby had the better athletes across the board.

Again, would love to see them play this year with both teams at full strength, but that's the breaks.

Thanks, big homie, on that Huss info. You, Shelby Lion, and SHS LION have the memories of an elephant.

So to this Shelby/Huss game...

Should be a great game with a lot of talent and athletes all over the field for both teams.

What is interesting about this game is that both teams strengths appear to be the other teams' weakness, so will be interesting to see how the game plays out and which team can exploit the other weakness while hiding their own weakness.

I believe that Special Teams may be a factor.

Reidsville and Shelby fans shouldn't be looking down the road just yet. There are a couple of teams that will just love to spoil your reunion.

The Final 4 of the West 2AA all have the talent to be state champions...should be a great final 3 weeks of the season.

Did Lion attack call me an elephant ???ha ha ha

Well as they say about shoe fitting LOL

Interesting tidbit : Shelby has given up 6 points in the first quarter all season .... give up less than 50 rushing per game at 1 yard per rush and about 118 yards a game ... that's remarkable ... something has to give these last couple weeks ! Will the defense continue to dominate or will we get beaten ? Remains to be seen . If we lose we shall tip our cap ... gonna take a tough team to do it ! Not boasting at all just how I feel ... this group shows a hunger to continue the winning so let's go out and do it
