Don't know how burke county works does schools have to take choice for hire to the school board to vote and approve it ?? And if so do they hold a special meeting or do they have to wait till next one is scheduled

All hires are approved by all school boards, though for some it’s a formality. Sometimes approvals are for a group of employees rather than individually.
Lol wondering they had a school board meeting 3 days ago and next one isn't till end of January I'm trying to see a time frame here 🤣🤣
I agree with ya on this. A lot of people don’t/ didn’t care to much about Coach Helms, but he had the program on the steps towards a state birth before he left. Then the decline started, with talented teams. When you look back at those teams after Helms left, they were loaded! Coach Helms had a state appearance within reach with a LB playing QB who hadn’t played the position since he was in Middle School. I don’t know what’s there now, but hopefully the school can get things turned around.
Side note but what in the world is going wrong on the basketball side. A player on the men’s side transferred out to West Caldwell and then the girls lose to hickory last night. Tough times in Carbon City.

The mountain transfer portal has always been open at ACR. Even when you couldn’t do it, it was happening and nobody did a thing about it. Not the county and not the NCHSAA. I think it’s funny because you listen to Shane Laws talk on radio interviews about how Christ school is just making a Buncombe county all star team but that’s all he has done himself since getting the head job at ACR. He is just mad because he is not getting all the players now and even losing some to Christ school and Asheville school himself. All sports at all levels is getting to be like this which is causing me to despise them all. High school was always the purest of sports because you had kids that where loyal to their friends and schools and community but now a little troubled waters and they jump ship but most of this is the parents. This culture as a whole sucks now

Good to know. Enjoy. I hate ACR and everything about it 😂. I don’t really care what anyone thinks about it either. Hopefully Owen will get a good coach that will stick around but if not I will go about my life. I’ve been to more games of other teams in the last 10 years than I have to Owen games. I just want to see football every now and then. I don’t have any respect for ACR and Laws because of how they have operated for decades and the fact they never won anything aside from maybe the ‘99 title with their own kids. Kenji Lunsford and Travis Newsome which are cousins of mine played back in the late 90’s. Back then Poss had the transfer portal but not on the level Shane has. With all that said no teams going forward are really gonna do it with their kids anymore because of the mentality and culture these days. I’ve pretty well given up hope that sports will ever be that enjoyable for me anymore
The funniest thing to me is the schools that make a living on the portal and then gasp in shock when it’s mentioned that its happening at their school.
My position on transfers, either in or out of Freedom High School, has remained consistent for some time.

It was that’s when I first met him then he did a stint in South Carolina just to come back to NC at RJ Renyolds. I was at St Stephens then but then needed up at Mt Tabor and started hanging out with Mike. Great football mind. I think he is done coaching but one of the better coaches I ever met
I personally think the candidate is picked but they are waiting for next school board meeting. I just would like to see it leaked out lol. But credit to them being tight lipped makes me wonder if big name
I'm hearing from some people it's between Mike propst and hickory assistant natoli. Unless secret dark horse candidate
I don't see Mike Propst coming to freedom. He's retired now and living at the beach. I do know from people I've talked to in morganton that they are keeping it real quiet.
Out of those 2 I'd say natoli is the lead candidate. But I feel like there is another candidate behind the scenes. That has everyone treading very carefully. If natoli is the choice not sure how that looks for freedom seems like his background and history is strong on the triple option and don't think that fits freedom well.
Natoli did a really good job running the O at Hickory this past season. They werent triple option, so I would guess he could coach a scheme to fit his players.
Yeah just saying that's is biggest background he could of moved to new schemes or could be glass's scheme. I just feel like coaches when in charge tend to go to what feels the most familiar or comfortable to them.
The freedom community wants a freedom alumni to be the head coach but I don't see any of the 4 who are currently head coaches taking the job. I have heard a name but I'll believe it when I see it.
Yes. I think I have heard the same name bandied about, but I am not going to upset the apple cart. Hopefully it’s true, but, like you, I’ll believe it when I see it.
