Forest Hills vs Shelby

One of the assistant FH coach’s run to the official that made the goal line call and had him go lock hisself in a room in the field house until police could escort him out
You should have been there that night in 1984 when Whiteville and FH faced off for the 2A title back when the Championship games were played at the home stadium of the highest seed. Coldest game ever played at FH even still to this day. At kickoff it was between 5-10 degrees. Got there three hours before game time just to get a seat and froze our tails off. They brought in bleachers from all the county parks and circled the field like and enclosed stadium. Great night except for freezing our fannies off.

What people dont realize about the 94 Burns team is 3 players went on the play or be on NFL roster. Tony Scott with theJets, Scottie Montogomery with the Broncos and Derrick Chambers with Jasksonville. Was a very talented team.
Both Burns and FH had some serious talent on that field that night. We had two D-1 commitments to NC State in the backfield alone. Our huge fast fullback at the time Kevin Hubbard was a Bull to get down and Speedster Eric Leak who became a receiver at State along with Anthony McNeely who any of the 3 should have been in the Shrine Bowl. I remember our playoff game against Kannapolis the Television guys for Kannapolis couldn't understand why one of those 3 weren't in the Shrine Bowl. That game pitted the best two teams in 3A that year.

I was there.... and when the crap hit the fan out on the field after the game, I wasn't sure we were gonna make it back across the parking lot to the car......
Was there also and on the field. I was 10 and somehow got separated from my dad in the middle of it all. Wasn't a fun few minutes for me lol.

Y'all young'uns out there running around.... I was 27 and thought I was about to get my azz whupped....
I was sitting on the top row of the home side and never made it down to the field. Just heard a few fans got into it and someone got popped in the nose pretty bad. The field was full of people. Definitely a wild night but I laugh about it 28 years later. Great football game.

A lot of the issues around where I was at came from some of our folks going over and taking that log away from some of your folks......

Yeah, the team had started 1-4 that year and had a big team only meeting in the woods behind the stadium. They pushed over a tree together and used that log from it as something to rally the team together. From that point on they made the run to 3A Regional Finals. They carried it to every game and onto the field before every game. I think a Burns fan got decked by someone for trying to take the log.

Well if FH beats Shelby you will go to Burns. Maybe you can return the favor and take one of their goats.

I remember one year we played Kannapolis and they actually had a white horse named Wonder to lead them on the field. I don't think our coach liked that too much or he was friends with their coach and they joked about it IDK. So the next week to poke fun at Kannapolis he lead our team out on the field with a mule with an FH blanket on it. One problem though. The Mule 💩 all over the field. Delayed the kick off. 😆 🤣 😂 😆 🤣 😂 😆

Someone please tell the goat story 😂😂
As a prank, someone turned the FFA goats loose on the field overnight. They crapped everywhere. Due to ecoli concerns, the field was shut down for the rest of the season. Had to play home games elsewhere....

I was sitting there all relaxed on the hill and out of nowhere the loudest MOOOOOOO ever that scared me half to death I looked to my right and sure enough there stood a cow.... It's the funniest thing ever to happen in this county. What made it even better was it was their own students that did it. It wasn't Shelby or Crest fans doing it. They have to play about 3 home games at Kings Mountain and I don't remember where else.
Well, it kept any team from scoring on them on their home field that year. That's got to be a record. 😆 🤣

You just made me laugh out loud. That's too funny. 🤣 🤣 🤣

We had to play our last home game at Crest, which was supposed to be Senior Night, against RS Central. After 1998 that was our only regular season win at Crest until this year (not counting jamborees). Then we played the first three rounds of the playoffs at Kings Mountain. Lost the third round, the regional finals would’ve been there too against Concord. The first round was against Forestview who actually had a closer drive to the game than we did. We had Senior Night that night instead. We made a lot of money on the No Goats, No Glory shirts. But it didn’t just affect the football team. The JV team and the men’s soccer team had to play their last home game at Shelby, and the girls soccer team didn’t get a home game until mid-April 2013 because the field was shut down for 6 months.

When we played at FH in 1994 we didn’t get a seat. We had to stand on the track at one of the end zones.

We've got a whole new visitor seating section since those days. Definitely a lot nicer and a little bigger. Still though the Monroe Game Friday night people were having to stand all around the fences and on the hillside. Stadium seats between 5000-6000.

FHjackets90 what is the biggest game you have ever seen at FH and how many people do think were there?

I went to the FHS v Whiteville game think it was a SC game when they used to alternate between East and West and play at home fields. FHS won and it was mighty cold that night, Probably 1983 or 1984?

1984 2A State Championship game at Forest Hills. Estimated crowd by the Enquirer Journal was around 10,000-12,000. We defeated Whiteville that night. This was before they moved the Championship games to the neutral sites like Carolina, Duke or NC State. Still the coldest high school game I've ever been to.

I was there that night. Coldest high school game I've ever been to. Gigantic crowd. It was in 1984. 1985 we went back to the Championship game but in 3A and lost in the last couple of minutes to Burlington Williams 7-3.

If there is FH vs Monroe rematch in the playoffs I think that crowd size will get beat. What do you think?
