Fake Schools

The ignorance on this board is overwhelming.

The only time the word "God" appears in our founding documents is in the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence where it states "Nature' s God". That is a Deist term, not a Christian term as most of our founding fathers were Deists, not Christians. Deists believe in the god of "nature and reason" which is why that term is in our Declaration (and the only time "God" appears).

The first amendment freedom of religion encompasses both the free exercise clause and the separation clause. That's why all of us are free to practice the religion of our choice (or not if that is our choice) which is the free exercise clause. The separation clause prohibits any government body, agency, official, etc to promote one religious belief over another (the "separation of church and state").

It is a fallacy to state that a public school student cannot carry a Bible in a public school. Christian students in their "off time" can hold Bible study/groups on school grounds during school times. The ACLU has fought for the rights of Christian students to wear crosses, carry Bibles, study in groups and on and on. But, for Christians to have that right so do Muslims, Jews, Satanists, you name it. What is the right of one faith is the right of all faiths, that's what many Christians, who have always been dominant, struggle with. Teach the Bible in public school, teach the Koran as well (see how that goes over). Our Constitution is not in place to protect the rights of the majority but the minority (the same rights, not more, not less).

Charter schools are the creation of the NC legislature and are public schools. The original number of permissible charter schools was very low and the legislature (republicans) have allowed the number to increase exponentially with very little oversight. Some claim that charters are a way to re-segregate public schools for those who don't wish to pay for private or religious schools. Charters are loved by the republicans since more power and authority are retained by the parents and not school boards (which we've seen can and has been abused)

Just this past week the republican legislature approved vouchers for payments to parents who are sending their kids to private or religious high schools. Guess who's benefitting the most, not the poor folks. I sent 3 kids to 13 years each of Catholic schools, cost me an absolute fortune, worked multiple jobs, forewent vacations, etc and still working at age 70 at least 60 hours a week. It was worth it for them to have that religious education and safety while I was still paying my taxes to support our public school system. Now, folks sending their kids to religious or private schools will be subsidized by all of us thanks to our republican legislature. The NCGA couldn't care less about high school athletics, they are about making their donors happy and charters and vouchers make their donors happy.

There are only four private schools in the NCHSAA, the four Catholic schools. Charlotte Catholic and Cardinal Gibbons have been members of the NCHSAA since it's origination. Bishop became a member when the school relocated 20 years ago when the school moved from WS to Kernersville. Christ the King is the most recent addition. Only 4 Catholic schools in all of NC participating in athletics. All of the remainder of the schools are public schools.

PS... you want the Bible taught in your public school then if you believe in our Constitution you want the Koran taught as well. We don't get the right to chose. If we believe in freedom of speech then we also have to uphold other's rights to speech which we abhor. Bishop now plays in a conference with a local charter school ( all black). Before the start of the girl's game we've always had the national anthem. Not at this public school, its Lift Every Voice (known as the black national anthem). On the wall is a flag, not red white and blue but red, green and black. Not an American flag in sight. Was I upset, you betcha. Do I support that public schools right to their freedom of speech, you betcha. Can't have my rights and deny the same rights to others. The same rights, not more, not less. That's what's supposed to be guaranteed by our laws.
Listen to the video provided by Appvol . It totally destroys your argument

Charlie Kirk makes a fortune online preaching to the ignorant who are too lazy to study our history, our documents and our court decisions. Prayer wasn’t taken out of our schools by one person, the Supreme Court ruled it violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Washington, Franklin, Monroe, Madison. Payne, etc etc were Deists, not Christians. Even Christian founding fathers understood the danger of promoting one religion over another, the very reason many left Europe for religious freedom. Jefferson basically created the concept of “separation of church and state’”’ so people could understand the difference between the free exercise clause and the establishment clause.

We have never been a Christian nation, we are a nation where chrtianity is the most practiced faith. We are not a theocracy.

PS Public school teachers should rank at the top of the most respected professions. What they accomplish despite how they are paid is unbelievable.

So you didn’t even listen to it and don’t even know what he said. Like I said before this nation was started by Christians the end. My pastor is a history major and we went over all this stuff and I respect him and what he showed and taught me on the subject. Charlie Kirk just happened to echo what my pastor said already. My pastor was also a High school History teacher but quit to pastor the church. He will also tell you of the stuff coming into the schools

On the contrary, I did watch the video, in fact I’ve seen it before. I see a lot of Charlie Kirks’s videos because it’s important to know what people are being led to believe that is simply not true. As to your pastor I’m sure that he is a fine man and is true to his beliefs. But as a public school teacher he is responsible to all his students, including those who are Jewish, Muslim, gay, transgender, agnostic and on and on so it’s understandable why he changed jobs, better for him, undoubtably better for some of his students.

You obviously don’t read and listen thoroughly because I said he quit to pastor. He did his job as a teacher to all of his students. He is a history major and probably understands history a lot better than you and I. You aren’t near as smart as you think

Why do we keep bringing up a document that was a social contract that has no legal binding and pledged allegiance to a king?
Because those that came here said that they all acknowledged Jesus! Not that they acknowledge nature and the crap 3 daughters says. Bologna! That’s why. It’s an important part of our history which folks want to sweep under the rug as if it doesn’t exist but it does

Read my response again, it’s clear that he felt his calling was to pastor. I’m not smarter than the next guy and not naive to think that anything I post on an internet message board will change your mind, not my intent. But my guess is that you only converse with those who think like you and that can be very dangerous and divisive. The world is full of wonderful people who believe differently than you, love differently than you and so on. That’s the real problem, anyone who is different is “crap’ to you. Our country never was and never will be a Christian nation, we’re not a theocracy which is exactly what the founding fathers intended.

You are the one that came out trying to belittle everyone else’s view and statements with your opening sentence. The fact is our laws were made from directly out of the Bible. Our founding fathers always opened in prayer and almost all of if not all of them quoted the Bible on a consistent basis. So call it whatever you want, call them whatever you want but that is all FACT!

Also up until just the last few years more people in our country identified as Christian as compared to non Christian which made us a Christian nation until just recently. Now we are the minority. But the Bible does say that broad is the way to destruction and Narrow is the way to Heaven so it makes sense that the numbers will be less on the Christian side of things

Madelyn O’Hair filed complaints and lawsuits on prayer in school. She is the 1 person who got prayer taken out of school. She was an Atheist. Our society always listens to the 1% and rule on behalf of that small percentage and it makes no sense. That decision catapulted this country into the wrong direction and it shows. You can try to argue it but the proof is in the puddin

Listen bro, I really don’t care what you think. Maybe you have a good school system. Maybe they aren’t all that way but here it is that way and it apparently is in other areas. They can all go broke for all I care. I will continue to do what I’m doing. If they straighten up then I’ll send my son to them Its that simple. You don’t get to preach to me about my kids. Their mine. Some school systems think it’s ok to keep things regarding their kids away from the parents. Maybe it’s not yours but it’s happening
I agree 100% but I do have a say if the taxpayer's pay for your kid's education.

My personal opinion is the charters should be in their own class due to being a non-boundary type of school. I don’t think metro teams from Charlotte and Raleigh should be playing small rural schools. Just my opinion.

But they are public schools and not fake!

I agree, if those schools are in 2a it wouldn't be as big of a deal

If you give someone a dollar and they turn that into $10 then that person understands $$$. If he inherited 1 million or 400 million he is worth 5.5 BILLION today. I'm not the smartest, but that is the blueprint of how to manage businesses, money, investments, etc. What are you talking about? SMH
And Charters are here and were created because the problems with "traditional" schools. Now, I do agree, Charters, and I'm sure they all agree as well, should play up in 3A and 4A for sports. Especially, year in year out, if they are competitive or superior in sports. My kids went to a charter, played sports, and both excelled in sports and academics. Both played college sports and excelled academically and graduated. I credit those accomplishments to the charter they attended and the rigorous academics they were introduced to along the way. I saw many, many kids (athletes) try to get into our school of choice through the lottery that was denied year after year. So, I don't agree with the assessment that lotteries don't work or its easy to get into if you are an athlete. All Charters are being overseen by the Charter Schools of NC and if you do not comply with the rules (lottery), you will lose your charter.

I think 2a is fine. Charters can do fine in 2a of course. But they wouldn't just run through the 2a bracket unscaved.

40 years ago we saw the pitchforks after the parochial schools although the NCHSAA bylaws stipulate that non-boarding parochial schools can join the association. Some schools were having a hissy fit because they got clobbered by Charlotte Catholic. The parochial outcries would flare up every 6-8 years.

Now we see the smaller schools getting impacted by the charter schools. My own MH Cougars will be playing a charter school tomorrow. My philosophy has to adapt to the change. Those kids and coaching staff at Corvian worked their rear-ends off to be where they are, and as a Yancey county man, I respect that. I like competition, and maybe we win or maybe we lose, but we are playing the hand that was dealt.

With all of these open enrollment school districts, I don’t think we should automatically segregate these schools from everyone else. I’d rather have an ADM multiplier that could possibly level the playing field.

I’m not an advocate of charter schools, but I fault no one for finding the best place to send their kids.

Not all charter schools are created equal. Some have more kids than others. Some are more successful than others. Some even have more $$$ and physical resources than others. When will the playing field be equal? Probably NOT anytime soon ...

Private schools should never be allowed to participate in public school playoffs.

It would be wild if the state championship for football is the same two that played in basketball. Not a lot of complaints when South Stokes got beat by Corvian last year and Winston Prep used to load up with D1 players but football different story

Again, not public, but do receive public funding
If you’re not RURAL, you will never understand. That’s my take on it, believe what you want, just as I believe there’s never been a lottery that wasn’t rigged! I am sure those kids at both schools have worked their butt off, as they should, but that doesn’t make it right! I voted in November against it, and until more people do, unfortunately, things will remain the same.

I agree. Luckily we don’t have private schools playing in the NCHSAA playoffs. Parochial schools aren’t private schools, and there is a difference. They can be classified I guess as non-public schools, but not all non-public schools are private.

I completely understand the sentiment, but at the same time I also require a preponderance of evidence that something is being rigged more than a statement of I believe this is happening. An accusation has to be proven or it remains accusation. I can support being suspicious and wanting more oversight and transparency of the process by state and to NCHSAA.

I don't think Charters will be going away though, especially as more people graduating from them come of voting age. They likely will support them even more having attended one themselves.

The evidence is out there. I’m not going to spend an hour citing what I’ve seen for myself, what’s the point? There is and may always be the exceptions, like what Cherokee is doing in women’s hoops, but across the board in all sports, it’s just a matter of time until the schools of small rural communities have nothing left to play for. As I stated in my previous post, if you ain’t rural, you’ll never understand!

Look at UCA wrestling if you want to see what an all star team is. At one point they had kids from Chatham, Lee, Randolph, Guilford, Davidson and Montgomery County. Please tell me how a small rural or small city school who has what they have can compete against that? And when WSP was winning in basketball people were charged up about it. 6'8 and 6'9 kids that come from all over forsyth county playing 1A ball against home grown talent is ridiculous. Bishop girls is a fine example as well. Girls from several counties on those teams playing small school teams with what they have. Defend it all day, but the truth is out there and it has been a problem and will now become a problem for the higher classes after May! Goodbye and welcome to 2A/3A/4A classes with the all star teams.
