Fake Schools

But there are options and you are proving that by sending your kids to a private school. You're trying to play both sides of the coin by saying "I shouldn’t have to pay taxes for you only if I want my kid to go elsewhere" but what about the same reasoning for an individual who doesn't want their tax dollars to be spent on non-traditional schools not governed by their local elected board? Again, there is no one-size-fits-all solution hence why it's really important to keep funding within the system and oversight given at the local elected level. That is where you have the most control, not by allowing Raleigh to alter the structure of education at the local level. If you have a problem with what's being done in the schools then vote, especially at the local level. Many school boards are likely becoming or have already become a partisan body.
Not in Buncombe county. You don’t have that problem in Henderson. I do vote on that. This is a blue county from Asheville city all the way down

Correct, so why should funding be stripped from our local schools whose policies aren't in question, all because of Buncombe County? Do you not see the hypocrisy in your argument? I am all for choice, if you want to send your kids to private schools then do so, but I am not for nonuniform management of public education funds, especially when said funds are being sent to "public schools" not under the oversight of local elected education boards. That's a recipe ripe for mismanagement and corruption, something we've already seen multiple times in this state over the past couple of years.

I believe I've made this argument in other post but I still stand by it. I'm ok with charter schools for education. But I don't believe they should provide any athletic programs, the students that want to participate in athletics should be able to attend charter schools and play sports in their home school district

This is probably the most reasonable way to handle the issue. However, don't you realize you are not suppose to be intelligent and reasonable. You are suppose to complain that things are not exactly the way you want it. Amateur.

Amen. And that is what the original post was about. I will always call them fake do to many reasons. But in the reality of sports the data is clear, there is not equity in charters and playing in same play offs. I will play them in regular and pre season, but in true fairness they should have their own post season.

I believe it was Ohio about 10 years ago (don't know if they do it anymore) that required all private schools in their Public School Association to have all students counted as 1.5 students for realignment figures. To me, that would help solve some of the Patriarchal and Charter issues if their attendance were to be counted as 150%. I could also see an argument for counting all out of district students at a school as 1.5 as well, although I do not know how feasible that would be.

When did they start taking religion out of school?

When was religion mandatory in school?

When has a public school told a kid they can't pray or can't carry their Bible?

Maybe religion was in schools when they were segregated.

I think alot of people have a false perception of an America that never existed.

When your financial standing improves the next 4 years you need to give credit. It’s been miserable for many of us under this administration. They used to read the Bible and pray in schools prior to 1962 and we had kids smoking cigarettes and chewing gum. Now you have kids smoking weed and bringing guns to school along with boys playing girls sports and using girls bathrooms. That’s what happens when you think God isn’t necessary

Never said it was mandatory but it was there. So when did it stop. Never existed. You want like who this is but it worth a listen

It’s hilarious to me how lefties harp about “religion in schools”. But every religion has things that are forbidden, sinful even, and lefty school teachers will certainly call you an “ist” or a “phobe” if you bring those things up in their classroom.

The ignorance on this board is overwhelming.

The only time the word "God" appears in our founding documents is in the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence where it states "Nature' s God". That is a Deist term, not a Christian term as most of our founding fathers were Deists, not Christians. Deists believe in the god of "nature and reason" which is why that term is in our Declaration (and the only time "God" appears).

The first amendment freedom of religion encompasses both the free exercise clause and the separation clause. That's why all of us are free to practice the religion of our choice (or not if that is our choice) which is the free exercise clause. The separation clause prohibits any government body, agency, official, etc to promote one religious belief over another (the "separation of church and state").

It is a fallacy to state that a public school student cannot carry a Bible in a public school. Christian students in their "off time" can hold Bible study/groups on school grounds during school times. The ACLU has fought for the rights of Christian students to wear crosses, carry Bibles, study in groups and on and on. But, for Christians to have that right so do Muslims, Jews, Satanists, you name it. What is the right of one faith is the right of all faiths, that's what many Christians, who have always been dominant, struggle with. Teach the Bible in public school, teach the Koran as well (see how that goes over). Our Constitution is not in place to protect the rights of the majority but the minority (the same rights, not more, not less).

Charter schools are the creation of the NC legislature and are public schools. The original number of permissible charter schools was very low and the legislature (republicans) have allowed the number to increase exponentially with very little oversight. Some claim that charters are a way to re-segregate public schools for those who don't wish to pay for private or religious schools. Charters are loved by the republicans since more power and authority are retained by the parents and not school boards (which we've seen can and has been abused)

Just this past week the republican legislature approved vouchers for payments to parents who are sending their kids to private or religious high schools. Guess who's benefitting the most, not the poor folks. I sent 3 kids to 13 years each of Catholic schools, cost me an absolute fortune, worked multiple jobs, forewent vacations, etc and still working at age 70 at least 60 hours a week. It was worth it for them to have that religious education and safety while I was still paying my taxes to support our public school system. Now, folks sending their kids to religious or private schools will be subsidized by all of us thanks to our republican legislature. The NCGA couldn't care less about high school athletics, they are about making their donors happy and charters and vouchers make their donors happy.

There are only four private schools in the NCHSAA, the four Catholic schools. Charlotte Catholic and Cardinal Gibbons have been members of the NCHSAA since it's origination. Bishop became a member when the school relocated 20 years ago when the school moved from WS to Kernersville. Christ the King is the most recent addition. Only 4 Catholic schools in all of NC participating in athletics. All of the remainder of the schools are public schools.

PS... you want the Bible taught in your public school then if you believe in our Constitution you want the Koran taught as well. We don't get the right to chose. If we believe in freedom of speech then we also have to uphold other's rights to speech which we abhor. Bishop now plays in a conference with a local charter school ( all black). Before the start of the girl's game we've always had the national anthem. Not at this public school, its Lift Every Voice (known as the black national anthem). On the wall is a flag, not red white and blue but red, green and black. Not an American flag in sight. Was I upset, you betcha. Do I support that public schools right to their freedom of speech, you betcha. Can't have my rights and deny the same rights to others. The same rights, not more, not less. That's what's supposed to be guaranteed by our laws.

Well, Trump already said he can't promise those tariffs won't increase prices.

But no one wants to talk about praying in a segregated school then right?

I also forgot the 10 commandment response.

It's short sighted to expect to have those posted everywhere while exempting our leadership from following them.

Finally, someone understands. Most people who are spouting off do not work in public education. They hear second-hand information. Our schools are doing a phenomenal job of educating all students. Teachers are not using indoctrination on students. They barely have enough time and resources to teach the curriculum of the subject in which they are experts. Large class sizes, low pay, and outside pressure are forcing great teachers to leave for better opportunities. Instead of arguing politics, why don't we all support our public school teachers? They are the foundation of our future generations.

Because some people don’t follow them doesn’t make them any less important. That doesn’t mean you take them down

If they teach reading writing and arithmetic they can do just fine but when they want to add all this other woke crap that’s where they mess up. There would be no problem if they could stick to that. Problems didn’t start until they did add the nonsense

So you work in schools and know that schools are including "woke" in their agendas?

When I have kids that come home with it I think I’m close enough to understand what’s going on. I also have friends who ran for the school board. That’s why my youngest isn’t going to public school anymore

So as I said second-hand information. If you really are invested, call the school and set up a time to visit and see what is going on at the school. Public schools have nothing to hide. I feel that you have just thrown every public school teacher in the state of NC under the bus as liberals who want to push a "woke" agenda on young people. Sad that you have generalized an entire group of people.

That is what good administrators do. Some people don't understand schools are working hard to have great educators to teach our children.

Listen bro, I really don’t care what you think. Maybe you have a good school system. Maybe they aren’t all that way but here it is that way and it apparently is in other areas. They can all go broke for all I care. I will continue to do what I’m doing. If they straighten up then I’ll send my son to them Its that simple. You don’t get to preach to me about my kids. Their mine. Some school systems think it’s ok to keep things regarding their kids away from the parents. Maybe it’s not yours but it’s happening
