East Davidson coaching vacancy

Ok I read them and I still know where the winningest coach resides.

Me too. Holcomb has a great career winning percentage at 69 percent. Everyone still pales in comparison to Allen Brown at 76 percent, despite having a few down seasons at the end. Coach Flynn has not had enough seasons as of yet to make a fair comparison.

Y’all referring to the baseball hire at Oak Grove?

GoNtheDistance, Oak Grove picked up a great coach in David Thomas to lead their baseball program. He has done an outstanding job this year with the young kids that he has over there. I also think East Davidson has one waiting in the wings for the future in Keaton Hawks.

I heard there was a team meeting last week, and Coach McClamrock told the kids that he was not applying for the job. Write it down, East will bring back Hanner.

I don't understand why Coach McClamrock would take himself out of the running for the head coaching job. I think he would do a great job over at East.

Check out Benji’s percentage, especially at Thomasville.

McClamrock doesn't want the job. He told the team that he will not apply for the head coach position. They had a team meeting a week ago.

You are correct sir. Benjie had a career percentage of 77, and at Tville was easily in the mid to upper 80s. He may have inherited a wonderful foundation, but he also adapted to the times and made Tville a nearly unstoppable force in 1A ball that regularly took on and beat larger schools.

I agree about David Thomas but assumed that’s who some of these posters were talking about. Thomas is a good coach and will be there for a while to provide a good foundation for that new program.

86.3% at Thomasville.

I know some insider info here from talking to some parent's of some of the East players why Coach Hines resigned. My son played JV this past year for East and really liked Coach Hines. Regardless of what he told the players was his reason for leaving that he wanted to be closer to his family, which may have been a small part of his reason for leaving, as someone else mentioned here, I was told he left because he had no support from his staff, or the AD or the administration. I was told some of the assistant coaches didn't want to go along with some of the things he wanted to do in practice (like tackling drills) and he felt kind of alienated. They have a good 'ole boy system there at East and from what I heard Hines was basically pushed out. They better make a great hire for the next coach. It needs to be someone who can instill discipline, teach great fundamentals and get the most out of his players. I already know of a couple of players that are thinking about transferring to another school in the county depending on who East hires so they better get it right and make a great hire.

I don't know at this point who East would look at bringing in as the next coach. I was kind of hoping that it would be Coach McClamrock but from what I have read and heard he has already had a meeting with the team and is not going to take it. I like Coach Hanner but after thinking about it a little something tells me that if he left once, whose to say it wouldn't happen a second time, just my opinion. The good old boy network is not going to get it done. It is a tough situation.

You have to physically MOVE in Davidson county to play at another school, they do not have open enrollment.
Transfer requests between the county school system and either of the two city school systems are routinely approved. No address change necessary. You’re right that transfers between county schools require a physical move.
Remember that over half of the students who live inside the city limits of Thomasville are in the county school district.

Is Coach Sweitzer still at East? He would make an excellent head coach. Remember he coached under both Benjie and Allen Brown for several years so I'm sure he is very knowledgeable and experienced.

Coach Sweitzer is currently as East and would be a good choice. However, It won't happen. I still think Vance Hanner will be named as the head coach. It's the East Davidson way, the path of least resistance.

Hanner is a good guy, but what an awful hire for East to go down that rabbit hole a 2nd time.

Wondering also. He resigned over a month ago.

I know spring practice will be starting soon, I think. It is hard to believe that Hines was basically forced out after one year at East. I loved watching the offense last year. That was the first time I think I have ever seen East throw the ball as much as they did. I think it was also the first time that East had a QB throw for 1,000 yards and a RB to rush for over a 1,000 yards in the same season.

As far as I know, no one knows anything and no decision has been made on a new coach. I think Hines wasn't announced as the new coach until May last year so it may be a few more weeks.

The position hasn't been opened up. I guess they will wait till June 8th. Any other school would have opened the job and advertised possible teaching positions, but not East Davidson. It's a circus. Changes at East need to be made, the leadership is WEAK.

If that is the case, whoever they bring in as the next coach, they are putting that individual in a bad position. I hope for the team's sake the next coach they bring in runs the same type of offense they ran this past season. You can't expect a coach to do but so much in a little over 2 months.

Anyone who has ever worked in NC high schools as a coach has been given a "code handbook" for coaching changes. BK is 100% right. Coach Hines worked for me years ago at NV and has a sharp offensive mind. At NV, we banged bodies. It worked for the kids we had there. When I was the HC at a 4A school down east, I came in with the same ideas. HECK, we dressed 108. Not trying to say we had kids to spare, but you had to find out at some point who would or would not hit...and 2 scrimmages wasn't going to give us enough time to fairly evaluate the kids. It is strictly a coaching preference. Down East, I was told ...no way....we thud and we hit pads . The previous coach had not gone live in a practice in 4 seasons. It amazed me...but we hit the three years I was there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays....
The politics of Davidson County are as real as striped jumpsuits. They hired the wrong guy, so the help demanded things go their way. It's all in the code. "More time with family" means the principal is listening to the staff.

I thought Coach Hines did a great job his first year as Head Coach at East Davidson. Last year was the first time that I can remember a QB throwing for 1,500 yards and a RB running for over 1,000 yards in the same season. The offense was fun to watch. The people that suffers the most out of these coaching changes are the kids. I know the football players over at East Davidson practice hard and play hard. I hope that East gets this next hire right.

Why not just support the coach you had. You mean he ran the offense....and it had a back who rushed for over 1000 and a qb who threw for over 1500....and perhaps the discontent of the defensive coaches swayed the principal to offer the hc a chance to resign? East is not Thomasville. East is not North Davidson. East is East. Just sayin'... the "tradition" is mostly new. From an outsiders' view, one year is not enough to judge the guy you offered the job to 8 months ago.

Seems to be the "good ol boy" society where the new coach could not hire his own staff hardly at all. More stipulations need to be put in teaching contracts that state they have to coach and if a coach refuses to follow how new head coach wants to run program to improve it, said teacher/coach needs to find another place to work so the head coach can bring it people to help them take programs to new heights.

I can speak to this. I had talks with Coach Hines about helping East last year but the athletic director, principal, whoever kept dragging their feet. I would have been behind Hines 100 percent. Great guy and coach.

I thought McClamrock was the AD?

Does nobody on staff want to be a head coach? Spring workout window is closing rapidly and the CCC will be tough again so could be a tough gig if it a late hire in May/June.

I thought for sure that McClamrock would step up and take the job. It has been said that he had a team meeting and told them he would not be throwing his name in the hat. At this point I would not be surprised if they brought back Vance Hanner. Who knows, there may already be talks going on to bring him back.
