Dudley?

Why a 4A program the likes and size of Dudley needs to even use the 8 Quarter Rule is what has me puzzled.

Those hardworking players just had a chance for something special taken away from them due to a bonehead move.

You can do whatever you want to the coaches or make Dudley play road games. But you absolutely can't do this to these kids it's wrong in so many ways.

The eight quarter rule came from the football coaches. It went to the committee and then was voted in by the board if directors all by standard protocol.

The NCHSAA admin receives the report and then determines if it is a violation. If it is a violation they determine the penalty which was put in place by a committee approval and board vote.

I totally agree. It starts at the top with the Head Coach or the AD. Why are they punishing kids that have worked so hard all Summer until now? HS sports are for kids to remember for the rest of their lives. There is a very low percentage that get to play at the college level. I have been reading this all day and it appears that a coach allowed this to happen. The kids were doing what they were told. I understand that there are rules and they should be followed but I disagree with punishing the kids!

I actually believe this is a good sign. NCHSAA is really thinking this over,I could see Dudley being hit with a BIG fine and force to go on the road

Well if u knew davis then u would know he wouldn't have done this knowing it was a violation so rams fan stop trying to make my coach look like a fraud SE if they knew it was wrong they should have reported it earlier knowing davis he would have reported it if he knew it was wrong

Dont count on it Champ. Not trying to be negitive but remember they (NCHSAA) probably didnt work today: Vet Day! Plus, the NCHSAA is not going to back down from the rules they put in place.

Obviously the rule is a good bc every high school uses it. Also what did the kids at SE Guilford do to deserve you wishing ill will or having the score run up on them. You guys that say its all about the kids and then turn around and say run it up on SE Guilford. They are kids too. Bottom line if you can't understand the rule then you deserve the punishment you get. Bottom line if you don't break the rules mistake or not then you got nothing to worry about regardless of who calls you out. Kodak dont lie baby!

for all of those that think Dudley has all of these players, they are incorrect. Dudley is one of the smaller 4a teams and has less than 90 players in their football program. Coach Davis run a very disciplined program, you are not a Dudley panther football player if you do not meet his requirements.

Agree with you 13 ah yeah! The players at SE are not responsible for the actions of adults. Running up the score on them would be a bad choice from the coach. Remember folks, these are kids/young men playing HS Football!

I totally agree. My position is that both MEN who know the sacrifice these kids put in should of had that conversation. It becomes punitive when you're at The conference meeting deciding on who will make all conference and they tell you there gonna report you. Knowing full well this would cost KIDS an opportunity to play. It was a tad bit foolish and may cost seniors their playoffs and lifetime memories. The rule was broken, but could of been handle in a much more professional manner. I would have know problem with it being handled as you mentioned. I would have called it in with you on the phone. It was done in distaste and if not this year, I fear they will pay on the field for sometime to come. At the end of the day people should treat others the way they would want to be treated. That alone would cure a multitude of ills. It wasn't done that way and who know what the outcome will be. The rule was broken but now so will the memories of innocent seniors. Blame on both sides, squarely landing on the kids. Tragic...

I wouldn't go screaming that to the top of my lungs. He runs a too tight ship and when the kids step out of line they are dealt with. That being said you lead by example and when they step out of line shouldn't they yield to the very same precident he sets? That's not the message you want to send! He should have room for grace, after all isn't that what he wants now? Man, the stories I could tell. But I'm not going to put it out there. I'm an alum and bleed blue and goal. But trust, that soap box you're on right their is some BS!!! Those that know...know. I'm about the kids!!! That's who I'm fighting for. Some of that staff though? This is just what their arrogant butts need. Don't set a standard for kids that you can't abide by as ADULTS!!!

Que Tucker is not making this decision. She does not have the authority to do so. The Executive Board will decide.

Bottom line is the appeal will be denied.

To do otherwise will mean making up new rules on the fly. Simply will not work and would be totally unfair to the other teams involved in the playoffs, teams that played by the rules.

Instead of pointing fingers at mean ole SE Guilford, it might be more productive to place the issue squarely where it belongs: With the Dudley coaches and administration.

Those who do not like the 8 quarter rule should go through the process and try to make it better. Odds are it will not be changed. And its the coaches and administrators who make these decisions.

Not in a million years and really shouldn't. Its terrible but the more I read the more I realize this isn't just a kid running on a field in the last two plays. No way he or any of those other kids should have been dressed. This was a Dudley mistake and they have nobody but themselves to blame.

It's simple ....keep your starters in and score every play until the final horn sounds ..then lets see what all the bleeding hearts have to say about that !!!!

It's kind of ridiculous to be upset with SEG. Be upset with the Dudley coaches for not preventing it or reporting it on their own, but you can't blame SEG for Dudley breaking the rules. Oh "waaahhh they waited til Monday..." well how long was Dudley going to wait before they self reported?
THANK YOU!

For any of you Dudley fans whining about being busted for cheating...

1) Buy your coach a rule book.
2) Teach him how to read it.

Nobody likes a cheater, period. End of statement.

This is all speculation from everyone. Only ppl involved really know what went down. the people wanting SE to get blown out are just venting on fact they think SE coach turned Dudley in its not a knock to the players just guilty by association. The people saying the coach didn't know should start to question do they want a coach that doesn't know the rules and have thus cost these players a chance for something special. Hard to win back to back. I honestly think that this was just a simple mistake, game over blowout lets just get outta here. Kid who hasn't played took opportunity to get on field I'm sure he didn't know rule. If it's just the one mistake then I hope nchsaa comes up with a way to let these boys play. Hell suspend the coach. If it's multiple then yea they should be out. Either way this may put a damper on my playoffs schedule was looking forward to that Dudley vs mooresville.

This is a clear case of the punishment not fitting the crime and the dangers of passing a new rule without considering the potential for unintended consequences.

What would have happened had this occurred last season? Did the NCHSAA have a contingency plan for such a case?

The penalty for an ineligible player is a forfeit. Had this occurred during games 1-10, no big deal in Dudley's case, just a loss and a lower seed. Why should this happening in the last week of the season make the penalty much more punitive? I get it if the loss was the difference between Dudley making the playoffs and staying at home, but that is clearly not the case.

What is the intent of the Max Preps report the right record rule? I thought it was to make sure the association had correct records when seeding for the playoffs, not as a way to remove a team from the playoffs if something like this was discovered later. If that was the true hidden intent, I am not sure the new rule would have been approved.

It is the responsibility NCHSAA's "Professional" Staff to consider such issues and possible contingencies and advise the voting membership and executive committee on the consequences of new rules. If there continue to be embarrassing, "We didn't consider that" moments the operation of the association, then perhaps it is time to hire a Professional Staff.

Also was looking forward to Dudley and Mooresville.

From all accounts that I've hearc from people in the know, this isn't good, and one game won't be where this ends.

It's a carrying such a massive penalty because the rule states that if you forfeit a game after the playoff brackets are finalized that you are disqualified from the playoffs.

The punishment has never fit the crim in these cases. The process that was set up for this infraction long ago was just not good.

From the perspective of a coach, this rule is very clear and easy to understand. Juniors don't dress on Thurs and Fri in the same week. Feel sorry for them all you want. Rules are rules and its not new. Punishment was clearly written at the start of the season for all schools to see.

Either he knew and ignored it, or
He didn't know....which is worse

The only question to ask during the appeal: "Coach, why did you dress 4 juniors on friday after they dressed on thursday?" Throw everything else out the window. Nothing else matters. The more i read, the more i agree with hokie. This probably wasnt the only one.

If the punishment wasnt predetermined i would make them play away games the whole playoffs. Reseeding is out of the question.
To be honest I really do not know if the punishment is stated or not. That would be an interesting point to find out.

I really do hope that it does not come out that SE knew this all along and waited intentionally to report this Mon. knowing that it would knock them out. The two teams that NG had to forfeit to (Williams was one) could have done this and NG would have been in the same boat, but did the right thing and reported them as soon as it happened. Again, why dress out juniors who played on Thurs. That in itself was probably a violation. Why would Dudley even have juniors playing JV ball. Makes no sense to me.

Hokiemtc, I'm going to push you...are you just talking about more games from 2014 or vacating wins from 2013 and vacating the state championship?

Coaches analyze film on Saturday anyways.

Many of us cannot sleep after a game so we do it Fri. after the game. Again all HS Head Coaches know that a jr cannot play in two games in one week. I wonder how SE knew this one kid played in both games. If you find this out please share.

I could see Dudley being hit with a BIG fine and force to go on the road

Champ I would not have a problem with them doing that. The HC needs to receive a suspension as well.

From what I have heard the rule is if you have to forfeit a game after the playoffs have been seeded you are disqualified from the playoffs regardless of the infraction or amount of games.

The punishment doesn't always fit the crime but seeing a team gets DQed about every year for fighting, ineligible players, etc.... coaches should make sure this doesn't happen.

In the end the players lose and I hate it for them regardless of what team it is.

jreynolds13

Call me what you want, but hell if I was a cop and
pulled a car over for doing 100mph on the highway only to find a husband
driving his wife in labor to the hospital, I wouldn't give a ticket,
but probably an escort. That's just me.

Most of us would in that case. Like I said I would not mind the NCHSAA making them play all their games on the road and suspend Coach Davis for practice and games.. For how long you ask. I do not know. Perhaps the entire playoffs, but that might be too harsh.

DHS, nobody is trying to make him look bad. Having been a HC the fact still remains that as a HC it is your responsibility to know the rules. The rule that a Jr. cannot play JV ball and turn around and play Varsity ball (all in the same week) has never been legal and is still not legal. You can say he did not know but ignorance of a rule means very little. Personally I find it hard to believe that any HC would not know this.

Mule this has nothing to do with the 8 quarter rule. I am fine with the 8 quarter rule. Even if the kids dress and do not ghet in the game it is a valuable experience for next year.

Last time I checked a cheater has an unfair advantage the player played with 45sec on the clock so what was unfair about that so check yourself before you come at my school and my x coach like that
