We got our power back on a few hours ago. This is so sad. My nephew is a fireman in Asheville and had 75 water rescues yesterday They are thinking the death toll is going to really rise. Also just saw a video of the town of Chimney Rock and looks to completely washed away.
Still no power on my road but we have food and our home. I am not complaining and even when I think about being frustrated I humble myself. What happened in the mountains is absolutely awful. That has been my main thoughts through all of this. I just hope they can get people to safety and save as many as they can. Thankful for all the fire, rescue, lineman and anyone who has grabbed a chainsaw over the last few days.
Still no power here in Mooresboro either. Thankful to at least have a generator to power the fridge, 1 TV and Starlink
I was told it would probably be NEXT Friday before power in sunshine/golden valley area .. here’s to hoping not but it’s ok either way .. I have cut so many trees off/ out of houses and seeing little old lady’s crying is hurting my soul

It says Oct 4 for Mooresboro right now. Which is so difficult, this no power is hard but I just keep making myself think about the people in the mountains and how much worse it could be.

I just saw where CC schools are closed again tomorrow due to the power outages and all still. Just curious if they are still closed Friday, they can't play games, right?
They play when there are Teacher work days so I am not sure how it will be decided on this one. I was also wondering myself. Bessemer City is a Gaston County school and other than 2 schools the rest moved. Who knows at this point.
I think I saw somewhere though that if it's a weather related closure they can't do any sports either. Teacher work days are different.
These are optional Teacher Work Days. So this is a new one. Are teams practicing at all?
I believe they have been given permission to practice but it has to be optional for the kids.
I was told the earliest we would play is Saturday, but perhaps Monday.

Correct. I may be wrong but a lot of the mountain teams are done for the year.

Was just told that Burns got special permission from the state to play Friday night even though schools will be closed. Hopefully Crest, Shelby & KM get the same ....
I agree. Just don't see anyway those mountain teams can play again this year and that f'ing sucks.....
If any of those kids come down the Mountain and find a place to play, let them. Open the portal up let them have a few hours a day to be a part of something and take their minds off of what they are going through. I am all for it. I don't see how they could continue in some areas and maybe that was the ticket for some of these kids to play at the next level. I don't care if they stop in Cleveland County or go all the way to Mecklenburg they deserve anything they can get at this point.
What fanbase will have their lips poked out and who will be smirking?

Curious to see what happens in Rutherford County. All football related at East Rutherford have been suspended indefinitely and it looks like those guys may not be starting back up this season.

I see that Crest will be South Point’s homecoming game. Neither team has played in two weeks after an already weird start to season with Crest not having a week 1 game and SP not playing the Charlotte Christian game and now the Huss game. This will be the first game this season that SP will be challenged all across the board on both sides of the ball. Should be a very interesting game!
Crest had a bunch of injuries last game and a few of those kids should be ready
Yes that’s the silver lining in this thing. It has given some bang up kids an opportunity to heal up when games are pushed back.

With the likelihood that some schools will not be able to resume playing sports for some time, there have been questions about whether or not the N.C. High School Athletic Association will change the sports calendar, something it has done in the past after major storms.

I mean either they can push the playoffs back a few weeks to allow some make up games (if those are even possible) or they can seed teams with less that 10 games according to their current record, and that's assuming they'd even be able to play by then. They should push the playoffs back to give those schools a chance to play as many games as possible. I doubt they will bc they do not want to lose the $ they have tied up in the state championship venues. An easy fix for that would be to extend the regular season a week. And cut the number of playoff teams in half. But. It’s all about the $ and the NCHSAA ain’t about to lose that.
If it is a venue thing then they have plenty of options elsewhere if needed. Would be fun to see Memorial Stadium in Charlotte or Simeon Stadium in High Point host an event.
School damage, Stadium/sports practice fields are not gonna get any attention in some of these areas for months because there are definitely other things to do first in those communities..probably a mute point to push the season out further because these communities need way more time and will never be the same
It’s not Que Tucker’s’ decision. Remember that NC has a NCHSAA Boars of Directors that will make and vote on recommendations for season.
She has pull and she will mess it up no matter what the decision is
