Rumor has it an Asheville player left Asheville and is going to ACR now, I’ve just never heard of this. Granted our district lines with ACR and Asheville do cross over and TCR’s district also crosses Asheville’s. Just weird to me, but I don’t know the whole story yet.
Yea right.....they're big time now. They made the playoffs last year. They won't move for anyone.
What they need to do is let GWU play on Thursday at Sid Bryson and let the fans in free. It would be the first time in years GWU has played in front of more than 75 people. Then do a double header on Sat with teams from CC and actually fill up that stadium. The way I see it, if you let GWU play at Crest before the JV game then they would have an actual feel of a home crowd. Right now, all you have is "I winta skool herrr back when it was just Gardner Webb College".
In all seriousness, it's a win-win for everyone involved. GWU could even force us to charge a dollar more a head and make some bank on it. Easy recruiting, expose the county folks to Gardner Webb more, potentially increasing their support. It makes absolutely no sense they don't get involved with Cleveland County athletics. And it's not just football.
I know we all pick and aggravate each other on here. But, wouldn’t it be great to be able to see both games somehow.

All joking aside … why does GW not care at all about local athletes. I have known a few kids that that played there but not like you would think. WHY ??? There has to be a reason even if it’s some underlying reason
The first question that you have to ask is how many of their current coaches on staff have ties to the surrounding area or are familiar with high school coaches in the area? Many coaches tend to recruit areas and schools that they are familiar with over and over. It’s the same in Charlotte with the 49ers. Those guys are in a hotbed of talent and do not recruit locally as they should. That lack of recruiting local talent hurts both programs on the field and perception in the local communities.
I've always said that if a coach would take the Jimmie Johnson approach they would build a monster. He walked into Miami, drew a 50 mile circle around the campus and said we will win the recruiting battle here. Imagine doing that at GWU. You wouldn't get the Green's or Simpson's but imagine the talent in that next tier.
If they played their cards right and recruited from Rutherford -Cherokee-Cleveland-Gaston, imagine what they could have? Think back at those 4 counties alone over the years. I’m not talking Power 5 recruits or Big D1. We produce enough and I’ll argue with anyone about it. I’m willing to go further and say Cleveland County alone could do big things for them. Mauney at Burns is great and I was glad they actually looked local but there are plenty others in this county that could join him and start something good.
I know both are committed and I’m happy for them but imagine Mauney and Bridges from Shelby just to name a quick combo. So many more out there. Carson from Crest, Norris from Burns. Come on!! Hell I thought Pryor from Burns would have been awesome. He’s doing great things at Catawba.
I know for a fact that there are kids that would of played at GWU if the offer had come. They went on to have very good careers at other schools.
The baseball team is the same way. The entire coaching staff is from Pennsylvania. Go look at their roster. Over half is from that area. I just don't get it.

GW does recruit CC… leftovers. 99% of CC players that go to GW for football are just scout team players. Not sure just how much $ they got to attend school there either. I heard the HC said that…CC are good enough for scout team. Most of GW players are from GA with exceptions being transfer portal players. They average about 20-25 portal players a year turnover. GW baseball mainly recruits from PA and surrounding areas. HC and AC is from PA. But are starting to get CC players on their development team. (JV). Binky has a lot of input over there too because he donates so much $$$.
Just go look at Lenoir ryhne roster… mostly local kids and they have great teams . I know they are just a D2 school but GW could do so much more. I have pondered on this for years now …. I’m sure a lot of these local kids would love to stay near home and play football that’s why so many stay in state anyhow. You never get the recruits you don’t try for
I did go watch a GW football game a few years back and they were damn terrible and I haven’t even thought of returning
Same bro! My son won tickets when he was 8 at school for a raffle and we went. We left by halftime. He won two more tickets a few weeks later and he told me I could give them away. It was awful!!! I gave the tickets away and we went to watch Chris Montgomery at UNCC.
Watched them play App this year. They were very competitive for most of the game. Their passing scheme was impressive.
Whatever makes you feel better , couldn’t beat out 14 here so he went back

Had nothing to do with 14. 14 is a great RB, but you and I both know Tate is much better. The word from him is he did not like Crest at all and that his mom forced him to go. He is now back home and all is well. 😉

I can’t speak about GWU football…mostly because I don’t care and every time they jay walk across the street I get the “read between the lines” hand single when I don’t stop. But the Quattelbaum boy and McFarland kid were from Crest and GWU baseball was deadly with them.
Those 2 plus Adam Izokovic (Burns), Josh Drewery (Burns), Zeke Blanton (Forest City), Jeff Howell (Kings Mountain) and Jake Watts (West Lincoln). Rusty did recruit local.
