Burns at Hibriten

Yeah the East was pretty weak much like this year. But Salisbury did look the part just their offense was inept. But they were supposed to be returning alot from that team.

beamer, you need to post this line on some of the threads they are running down East. Talk about stirring up a hornets nest. I started to quote you and send it over myself but it’s your line. If you want to get the rest of us laughing, send it my man send it.

I thought they had one last year also, then Bo made that D look like a block of Swiss cheese.

Now y’all know an instigating troll when you see one. Oh, it’s playoff time ? Sweet can’t wait for the flood of “new members” (i.e. the account was started this weekend) who come out guns blazing looking to create a fire storm. “A tradition unlike any other”

I’m all about the back and forth with some witty banter. message boards are supposed to be fun and entertaining — but i don’t think i need to point out to the group that no hibriten fan worth his salt is gonna anchor his trash talk game to ... DEFENSE ! we got more self-awareness that, i promise

y’all know by now who the hibriten crowed on here is — those “new members” just looking to pick a fight.

I know the games I saw this year were of a good team. They do lack the speed we have had in recent past. The defense does lack some discipline, at times. Without playing any good teams this year, we won't know until this Friday how good we are! I can't wait to find out and I hope it goes our way!

Striker is right, we'll see the influx of n00bs posting. Delusions of grandeur will be everywhere, lol.

Just like it seemed that there for a while Burns was always running into West Rowan every year....
If I never hear from that fan base again, it’ll be too soon. They were on a whole different level of annoying during their 3x state title run.

We caught them in the final season of that 3 year run in the 2010 Regional Finals. Ugh one of those heartbreakers that make you consider going to therapy. Up 14-6 starting the 4th and we’ve shutdown everything this high-powered 50+ pt/game offense was trying to do — 3 and out like clockwork. they’ve got one foot in the grave with 5 mins to go ... then a near sack leads to a busted play scramble that leads to someone get behind the defense that ends with 60 yard big play bomb right over our heads. We were still up 14-13 but everyone new what was about to happen next. WR no longer feeling sorry for themselves/hanging their heads remembered they’re the state champs ... and our boys are 100% about to play conservative/tight/not-to-lose football. i can’t bring myself to write out/relive the final moments. We walked off the field with 20-14 L

we got payback down the road 2016 3A 4th Round, but still ...

Side Note:
Funny/Ironic Twist: We beat Asheville in an unanticipated home game to get to the regional final. We were expecting to be down in Lawndale that Friday night battling #1 seed Burns !! 🙂

but again ... seriously ... f*** west rowan

That loss hurt but they were a good team. I don’t care who Hibriten has played and what the sos was. You play who is on your schedule. HHS is undefeated. I have no doubt Burns has a fight ahead of them against a tough group in Lenoir.

SOS has been the same garbage number every year for as long as i can remember now. It is what is. Maiden has come back to life. Hickory, Newton-Conover, Bandys, Freedom used to be as proud as anyone.

4 Regional Finals and 1 State title over the last decade, most realize at this point we’ve earned the benefit of the doubt.

I feel like Burns overall is as talented as we have been since 2009-2014. But we’re very young...as 02 said were starting lots of freshman and sophomores with only 4-5 seniors starting. I think this will be a good game no doubt.

Man that was an epic game except for the ending. West Rowan scored on a fake punt and a flea flicker then went on to cruise to a win in the Championship the next week! 2010 and 2018 were both State Championships that got away IMO.

I wanted to throw up when i heard that WR/EA champ game score. What could’ve been ...

I still hold that 2009 team in high high regards. All year everyone was talking how Hibriten/WR was gonna be a heavyweight fight in the regional. We were rolling through the bracket with easy ... and then another classic example of a game were HHS comes out the gate firing for 3 quarters only for something stupid to happen in late in the 4th to ruin the day

27-14 6 mins left ... a silly missed PAT comes back to be the nail in the coffin.

That ‘09 team had a lot of fun talent all over the field. Could’ve won it all, or hell in hindsight now .. just make that game vs WR and if nothing else the 2010 team benefits from having been in regional final a year earlier.

I remember...and it will be at least 2025 before you have a chance to get to Lawndale. That would require y’all moving back down to 2A or a nonconference series. I doubt we will ever be back in 3A.

Speaking of West Rowan...look what someone did to the Statesville press box..

I think the 2009 team was our most talented team. I'm just not sure our defense could have stopped WR. However if we were running our current defensive scheme I think it would have been a different story.

Overall:

Burns opponents this year were 26-23 & played 2 playoff teams (Shelby, Crest)

Hibritens opponents this year were 24-24 & played 2 playoff teams (Bunker Hill, North Rowan)

The fact alone that Burns hung 70 on RS Is more concerning to me. Hibriten put 60+ on a very depleted Patton team. I’m guessing Burns is probably coming in with a bit more confidence.. My bet is on coach Mackey. I would guess he learned a lot about burns last year when we got dismantled defensively.. I’m worried we’re not quite the explosive offensive team as years past so defense needs to be really good. Burns also has deep pass threats and we all know how well that gets covered, I wish this game was two weeks from now but so be it. Good luck to both!!

The only reason I’ll say this doesn’t do the records justice is because of the teams we played one of them didn’t win a game and the other only won one game. The rest of the schedule was a tough schedule.

I think this years defense is better than last years, faster and some sting behind them. They like to get after it. That alone is why I give the advantage to burns. We played a tough chase team and held them to 0. Shelby we had 4-5 turnovers and lost because of missed PAT’s. RS gave everybody fits and we hung 70 on them. Norris is Pryor 2.0 as 02 said and he is coming very quick. If burns o line can hold up and we get the run game going I don’t see us losing this game. But all that matter is they line them up and hit them hard on Friday night. I’m exited!

Well we also gave up 39...that game was fairly close until the 4th quarter.

I think Burns offense was kinda like Jeckyl and Hyde against Crest and RS. 14 1 week 70 the next.
It’s all about matchups. Offense couldn’t get it going. We made mistakes against Crest with credit to their defense. Our defense was on the field too much and got wore down which allowed Crest to pull away. That first half was awesome. We came out against RS with a different look, we executed and we put up points. None of that matters Friday. How both teams match up against one another and who makes the least amount of mistakes could decide it. Hell, it could come down to which team has to punt once or twice. Who knows?

LOL and they say “numbers never lie” ...

Shelby, Burns, South Point all would be LOCKS against our 2nd best team (Bunker Hill) — you’d probably take Chase and RS to win, too

Conference/Schedule comparison isn’t a conversation we should want to get into. Yikes.

To that note, Burns played a total of 4 teams in the top 20 in 2A and went 3-1, losing by 2 to Shelby.

Hibriten didn't play any top 20 teams. Bunker Hill is the highest ranked team Hibriten saw at #24. And ofcourse the Panthers handled them pretty well.

Our conference was just bad. Burns IMO was in the toughest 2A conference in the state.

100% and that’s usually the case more years than not. A conference makeup that consists of some combination of Shelby, Crest, South Point, Kings Mountain. That makes for what you call a murders row schedule over the years.

How many times has Shelby won the West or State with 2,3,4 losses?

You can go 0-3 in Cleveland County and still win a State Title.
