Buford Ga. @ Mallard Creek

Because of this, the majority of North or South Carolina avoid scheduling games with a known unfavorable outcome.

Buford offense was never that great, even last year. They just over powered teams running the ball. There is a gap between them and teams like Mater Dei because of coaching.

Outside of Butler (if the offense is focused) and maybe Grimsley, I don’t see another offense in 4A that can really move the ball on Mallard Creek’s defense. If the offense is simply above average MC really shouldn’t have too many issues if healthy.

Creek was totally outsized by this team but they outplayed them specifically on defense all night. Got home rushing 3!!! Yes 3!!! 6 sacks and 3 turnovers on huge hits. They made the #1 Qb look like Sam Darnold kid was seeing ghost 😀. As I said in an earlier post playing a team with this kind of force sets your team up to be very physical moving forward. Incredible effort by Tinsley, staff & young men. Next up Gaffney.

It's week 2. A lot of football

I read and reread your first sentence several times. I don't think that has ever been true before, even in the immediate years after Palmieri. MC and outsized in the same sentence, regardless of their opponent, is hard to fathom.

Kudos to Mallard Creek. They get the NC Big Cajones award for their schedule this year. Two weeks ago, many were saying that they could easily go 0-4 to start the season. If you are willing to take on anyone (literally), you find out a lot about your team and you quickly learn your strengths and weaknesses. The coaches and Creek fans have to like what they have seen so far. Gaffney and West Charlotte now look more like trap games instead of potential or probable losses. They have exceeded expectations more than any other team in the state and it will be interesting to see if they can avoid a letdown and keep their momentum going.

They are still a good size team by most standards. Buford has about 15 power 5 kids. I counted 8 on the defensive side including FSU, OSU and Michigan commits. It's just a different level.

Tinsley defense plays smaller than Palmieri's did but extremely fast and hard hitting.

Last night's game was just a reminder of why you love HS football. The 6'5 300lb OT that is going to Michigan gets whipped by the 5'11 210 LB kid who is gonna play at Catawba just because he wants it more when they step between the lines. Potential is great but if you aren't focused you get beat.
HS football is a great equalizer and the last level D1 can relatively compete with d1 non P5, d2. At college those D1 guys get bigger, faster and adapt to the college game and contact better. They live up to their potential and there are more like them. Its what makes HS football so great.

Said it this summer. MC defense is incredible. Buford is a great team, but is running off hype. MC is gonna surprise a bunch of folk.

Now you know how Page felt in 2011. We were vastly undersized compared to MC. We just wanted it more.

Countless examples of 6' 5", 300+ lb high school hot shots getting all kinds of recruiting ink and D1 offers. Power 5 schools look for a profile and too often think they can teach a prospect anything. Just can't teach him to be 6' 5" inches and over 300 lbs. They wash out at the D1 level as you can't coach internal toughness and heart, potential be damned. All time example of this was App St. defeating Michigan in the Big House.

Totally agree with you….what was real apparent last night was the stubborn nature of the Buford OC. Creek runs a 3/5/3 and they do it very well but with a Buford OL that large and opportunities to double team the front three and come off to the second level LB’s they could have run the ball all night and probably gotten a solid 28-7 win just by wearing Creek down. They played right into the teeth of that defense which dropped 7-8 on each play making the throwing lanes really tight not to mention Creek disguises coverage really well. Against disciplined strong willed teams you just can’t run your athletes out there and expect domination.

6’7” to 6’4” across the O-line, behind them, the #1 QB in the Nation. Along with RB’s with Bama offers, and # 1 Athlete in the Nation playing WR. The score 7-7 in the 4 Qtr. Yes! It’s only week 2
Watching the team they shut out the week before move the ball pretty easily against a good Chaminade team.

Last year Buford is exclusively a run team and they pound them 52-7. This year the 5 star QB transfers in and he has to play to that kids strengths and they nearly lose.

I saw some highlights that were taken right from the sideline. That offensive lineman for Buford, #78, on the left side looked absolutely huge.

The Creeks QB was tossed around like a rag doll all night by Buford's "0". He's larger than life.

Yep! And the Creek, with only 2 returning starters on defense gave their #1 QB in the Nation with a Power 5 Oline, HELL!

Despite MC's unfortunate loss, the game was nevertheless fantastic given the conditions, but was not enough. Buford was only given 93 running yards by Raiola, who completed 12 of 25 passes for 174 yards. Bolden made three catches for a total of 64 yards. Raiola completed 12 of 25 passes for 174 yards, and Buford was limited to 93 rushing yards. In addition, the Wolves fumbled three times. With 11:12 left in the fourth quarter, Buford kicked the game-winning field goal from 40 yards out. MC currently holds an 0-2 lifetime record versus Buford.
