NW/M Valley/WPAC Pick The Winner Opening Week

Well I decided to bring this back after all and return to the basics of what made this work. Got over complicated last couple of years and figured it would make it much easier to do it like the opening year. Anyways just pick the team you think will win each matchup and you will get 5 for the bonus and 2 for everything else.

The only real rules I have is be smart/respectful to each other, don't start no drama, and if you intend to play please stay until the end. If even your low in the ranking don't quit because there has been some crazy things happen. So sound good? Let's get to pickin':

GOW 5 Points:

Starmount at MA

Other Games 2 Points:

Surry Central at East Surry
Ashe County at North Surry
Forbush at Elkin
Central Davidson at West Stokes
South Stokes at East Wilkes
Alleghany at North Stokes
Mitchell at West Wilkes
Wilkes Central at North Iredell
West Caldwell at North Wilkes
Carver at Dudley
Walkertown at Rockingham County
Bishop at Comm School of Davidson
Christ School at Atkins

Simmon's Ratings are up

Glad the first edition of this years Simmon's Ratings are up. I thoroughly enjoy this site and the work that Mr. Simmons puts into doing it. In this stat crazed world, it's great to see the predictions and power rankings according to the numbers and not just the eye test or personal opinions. Looks like another tough year for the Eastern Plains Conference as the numbers have us ranked as the best 2A conf. Do any of you disagree?it was the only one with three 10+ win teams, although we did have North Johnston too....ehhhh.

A trip to Ninja's shop

just wanted to share with everyone a trip the wife and i made ninja's southwest tire shop the other day for new tires. as we were waiting along with a swo father and the mom of coach dempsey, ninja broke out an old helmet from back in the day along with several folders of old newspaper clipping about the stallions, which sparked conversations about hs football and the stallions.

it was just like hanging out at a diner with friends. i swear the man loves his high school football and loves his stallions.

What are the top storylines for the 6 Western 1A Conferences?

Heading into the opening week of the 2015 season, I thought that I would get a thread started about the Western 1A Conferences, and what are some of the best storylines for each conference.....Here's my take:

YVC
---------
1). Can Any Conference member challenge West Montgomery for the 15' YVC title?

2).Will North Moore challenge for an upper-tier finish in the YVC?

3).How will new coaches at Albemarle,North Stanly, South Stanly and South Davidson impact the YVC?

SPC
--------
1).Will Bessemer City win yet another SPC title, this year?

2).Will Mountain Island Charter be as good as advertised, and will the be big or small 1A, come playoff time?

3).Can either Pine Lake Prep or Community School of Davidson challenge for the SPC title?

NWC
--------
1).Can Walkertown capture the NWC title this year, or will it again, be either Mount Airy or East Surry?

2).What kind of impact will Winston Salem Prep have on the girdiron in their first year in the NWC?

3). Will North Stokes win a conference game this year?

SMC
----------
1).Will either Murphy or Swain County unseat Robbinsville as the new 15' SMC champ?

2).Will Rosman finally beat 1 or more of the Big 3 in the SMC?

3).How will year 2 go for Kent Briggs and his Cherokee Braves?

MVC
--------
1).Will Starmount claim the outright MVC title this year?

2).Will East Wilkes live up to the preseason hype, and finish in the upper-tier of the MVC?

3).Who will finish higher in the standings between Alleghany and Elkin?

WHC
--------
1).Can either Mitchell County or Avery County finish in the top 3 of the WHC?

2).How will Owen do without longtime Coach Kenny Ford on the sidelines?

3).Can Mountain Heritage challenge Pre-Season favorite Hendersonville for the 15' WHC title?

Feel free to answer those questions, and pose your own....Comments are welcomed as usual!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to make sure everyone know why a certain person did what he did over 200 years ago. A lawyer from Baltimore was sent my his soon to be government to make arrangements for POW trade between the Colonies and the British.

The colonies soldiers were help about 1000m off shore in prisoner ships. The agreement was made on September 3 1814 but the COL that was making arrangements for the British said the agreement would not be needed since the colonies would surrender that night. They would not let the lawyer leave since he knew what the plans would be. The plan was to bring every British Navy ship and fire everything they could at Fort McHenry. Fort McHenry was not a military base, it was a place were spouses and children were staying with a small group of male soldiers. There was a US Flag flying and they sent word that once that flag was lowered they would stop firing and then accept the colonies defeat and Britain would take control of the new land again.

The lawyer went to see some POW's to let them know what was going to take place. Once the firing started the POW's were not asking how bad was it, or praying that it would stop. They were asking where is the flag and praying please Lord let that flag stay to where we remember it. The next day the flag was still standing, torn and leaning but still standing.

The British COL could not believe what he seen. So he let the lawyer go. The lawyer went to Mt Henry to see how bad it was and to help out where he could. Once he arrived he found that the reason why the flag was still standing is because the male soldiers were gave there lives to ensure it didn't fall. They held the flag in place, once one would die he would be moved and another would take his place.

GEN George Washington made a commit that he would rather die on his feet than to live on his knees. Later repeated by Emiliano Zapata when the country of Texas was fighting the Mexican army.

The lawyer from Baltimore that was sent to discuss POW trades was Francis Scott Key and he wrote the Star Spangled Banner.

So when you hear the music don't just sing along, actually listen to the words. "O! Say can you see by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming. And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there; O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

So when you watch the games this Friday please don't refer it to a battle field or compare it to war. I don't think we have to many true Americans left that will give there life just to keep a flag in the air.

Tarboro Jamboree

SWE, North Edgecombe, Princton, Farmville Central, Rose, and host Tarboro put on a good showing tonight at the Tarboro Jamboree. All teams showed flashes that would make any coach optimistic, but I think it was my Cougars that stood out the most. We greatly improved from Wednesday's scrimmage at Greene Central on the defensive side of the ball, and the offense looked as potent as ever. Also looking better was JH Rose, who looked awful at the Greene Central scrimmage as the only 4A team there. Once again the only 4A team in attendance, they lived up to their reputation as one of the top teams in the east. Princeton, on the other hand, a dominant 1A team as of late, did not impress. Their O-line was porous and allowed defenders in the backfield all night. They have a huge RB, but there wasn't much he could do. North Edgecombe's defense held its own against the larger competition all night, but their offense struggled. Tarboro looked...ok. I know it was just practice, but if tonight's action was any indication of what their team will be, then they will not be a juggernaut this year. They will still breeze thru their conference, but they will struggle in their early games. Farmville Central has a huge O-line and will have their way with most teams. The Jaguars weren't great, but they weren't bad by any means either. My own Cougars started out by scoring on the very first play and then held Princeton to 0 first downs in shutting them out 2 tds to 0, got by North Edgecombe 2-1, allowed Rose to score on their first play, only to responded by showing them that we can score on our first play too, in tying them 2-2, and followed that performance with a 1-1 tie against Farmville, for a grand total of 7 touchdowns to 4. I have never been one to say that we will win just because I support the team (I predicted 8-3 last year, getting them all right) but if we get past Holmes in the opener, I can strongly see 11-0. That opener is a doozy though. But you know what???? It's football season!!!! It's finally back! 11-0 or 0-11, this is the best time of the year and it will be fun! Play time is over....it's the real deal now! Good luck.
