The Trask family owns a lot of land in Pender and New Hanover counties. The land UNCW is on was owned by Trask family (Trask Coliseum) Rumor has it that they donated land for the college with the expectation that football would not be played there.I learned something today. I always thought the school was named after a woman, but apparently not.
The man first name was Christian.
Heide Trask High School is named after C. Heide Trask, a member of the North Carolina State Highway Commission. The school's campus is built on land donated by the Trask family. Heide Trask High School opened in 2002 to prevent overcrowding at another local high school, Pender High School.
