Cleveland County

I believe the 4 wide receivers that started are all sophomores. Also another sophomore Landon Hollifield played really good at the middle linebacker spot. I will say KM will be very scary as they get some things figured out.
Close - 3 Sophomores (#2, #18, #19) and 1 Senior (#1).

#0 Tate was the KTC Broadcasting Cleveland County Player of the Week. 127 yards rushing and 2 TDs, plus 63 yards receiving for 190 total yards.

Thoughts and Scores to note

How does a fan whose team won by 50 to 14 not feel great?
Yes Mt Airy won going away. However, anybody that thinks North Surry is not good, and capable of being really good, just did not see the game I saw. First, the fastest player on the field was NS # 3. And has talent. Where is the portal when you need it?
Their QB can throw the ball accurately. Running game can, and I predict will, improve. Big line! and will most likely get better with experience.

My advice to every other team and fan base that will face North Surry, you better be prepared. They could easily run the table the rest of the year.

Tarboro 30 Rocky Mount 0. while not the biggest surprise, but isn't Rocky Mount a 3A school? Yes. I just looked it up.
Way to go Tarboro.

Starmount 43 Trinity 0. Trinity is a 2A and while not very good, apparently, still Starmount hung a goose egg on them.
South Stanley 16 West Stanley 10. Ok this is not a world beater but South has struggled the past several years and 2A West Stanley has been a very competitive school. Just a nice surprise and hopefully a sign South is rising again.

North Rowan 46 East Rowan 6. Again a really tough 1A laying the wood to a 3A team. 2nd year coach said on HSOT interview that they were excited about the coming year. I would say YEP.

Mountain Heritage 54 Chase 0. Football Guru Chris Hughes projects Mountain Heritage to come out of the West to face Tarboro. Well, they made 2A Chase a believer.

East Wilkes 34 West Wilkes 6. East and their 2nd year head coach appear to moving rapidly up the ladder with a solid win over 2A West.

But just to me, the score that we all, including Guru Chris Hughes, should see and take note of, is this one:
Eastern Randolph 29 vs 3A Eastern Alamance 0.
Want to talk about a team being battled tested come playoff time? OMG.
ER also having a very tragic event happen to 4 of their classmates had to weighing on them too.
Prayers for them.

POST 10/23 SCORES HERE

I remember back in 2016 watching a Murphy team drop one early to Franklin 42-7. They ended up having a pretty good year…
That's a fair point but it would also be fair to point out that was a very different coaching staff and a more talented group of players in 2016.

No, 33-13 isn't as bad as a 42-7 loss on paper, but as you know the scoreboard doesn't tell the full story in this one. I would contend it was every bit as poor as that night in '16 and in some instances worse. It was a thorough and comprehensive beating in all respects. Murphy's performance ranged from poor to terrible in nearly every facet of play.

We'll see how the coaching staff and players respond, but that was as listless, lifeless and uninspired of an opening game performance as I can recall from a Murphy football team.

POST 10/23 SCORES HERE

Latin pick-6
28-14

Good game to the hawks. Mitchell's gotta clean up some young team mistakes.
Besides the TD that should have if not for a bad call Mittchell had serval self affected wounds that cost them points. Trying to take some positive until the misstakes they did have some good drives and plays that showed if the line give them time the potential of the skill positions and probably the most speed I've seen for Mitchell.
Its not that the line doesn't have some good size but all but one are 10th graders and one starter out for 3 weeks , so the team wiill go as the line gets some games under thieir belt and improve which i believe they will.
Another issue will be health as meationed a starting lineman and last night #82 who hopefully will be ok becauce he looked good as a receiver and on D and some others came off the field limping some just appeared crapping but they're down in numbers this year so they need to stay healthy.

THOMASVILLE VS RANDLEMAN

I’m guessing you weren’t at the game watching it. Thomasville is not a team that they can run some fancy offense which got shutdown the first half of the game quick. I believe they have the players that can win games if they can figure out the offense. Defense got beat on bad on several big plays that shouldn’t have. Poor coaching if you ask me.
I was not. For the first time in forty years, I’m not getting season tickets. For most of that time, we took Warren to the games. Good time to move on.
I still want to see them do well, but not very confident in anything going on in TCS.

THOMASVILLE VS RANDLEMAN

Very little coaching experience and essentially new staff. Jury is still out and hopefully they’ll improve as the year goes on. But the hiring process didn’t lend itself to success.
To his credit, Coach George kept the kids together in the spring when virtually everybody else left.
I’m hopeful for a winning record.
Is the blue and orange team that good?

Max Preps Preseason 2a rankings

U not telling us nothing that we haven't already knew. Most of the Clinton posters up here knew we was gonna be trash.
Not gonna lie I didn’t think it was gonna be that bad a month or two ago….then the jamboree happened and still I was thinking well Overhills had a lot returning(17 starters) that’s a 4A team will see……Northside is just as young as us maybe younger and they put boot to a$$…….yeah it’s bad.

Thoughts and Scores to note

As for the EW game. Should have been 34-0. West scored with 7 secs left after a gifted pass interference penalty put them at the 2 yard line. Nevertheless, we really struggled with the screen pass in the 2nd half. The defense played really well as the score shows with multiple turnovers. Not sure exactly how well either team is being its the first game. But I did see some good points for EW. Barring injury, remember the name Austin Nash, as I'm sure he is going to rack up some numbers this year. Just on his 3 scores last night over 200 yards. Not sure of final rush total. The offense moved the ball at will and are really starting to click with the triple option and with the new coach. (They had him for a while in middle school as well so he knows the kids) looking forward to seeing how this group does moving forward and getting better. Only 5 or 6 seniors on this team. Loaded with Juniors.
