R.J. George threw for 171 yards and a touchdown Saturday to help Shelby beat Southwest Onslow 29-7 for the Class 2-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship.
George was named the game's most valuable player for the Golden Lions (12-4), who built a big first-half lead and never looked back.
Shelby also blocked three punts, with Antwan Wright's block in the second giving Shelby the ball at the 1 and setting up Chad Reid's short score to make it 27-7.

@Lion Attack hasn't been as mouthy as usual. The same @Lion Attack that got on @Shelby Lion, or was it @SHS LION for being soft and chummy. Ever since his new best friends from WRH(like @blackbulldog ) taught him how to call me vagabond with the correct spelling he only has smoke for me, none for those other bulldogs out east.

These guys are “cute”, though. I like it when Shelby plays a new opp for the first time, and you see comments like, “We’re going to score 35 points on them”. “Kanye is going to run for 250+ and 5 tds”. Then, you have UNC91 babbling and gassing them up, having them feeling like Rocky Balboa.

In all seriousness, the WRH posters are a very likable group, a humble group of guys for the most part. I’m looking forward to seeing Kanye Roberts. I’m sure he will get his in a losing effort, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he sees a career low versus the Shelby D, and goes from Kanye Roberts to looking like he’s Kanye West back there running ball.🙂
On the video they have about 2 or 3 more guys that can break loose.
In all seriousness This will be the toughest Defense the dogs have played all year. I dont see Kanye getting his usual 250 or more. Our other 2 backs whom are both very capable will have to have big games. Its just been fun watching #5 this year and I hate to see it end. Good luck to both teams and hope for an injury free game.
Yes Antwan Montgomery has over 1600 yards and 15 tds and Kaymond Farrior has a little over 1000 and 16 tds.
I see! They look very athletic in their backfield. Not trying to brag, and I hate to be redundant, but Shelby’s front seven, man, the size of the D line, you just don’t see it that often in 2A football. I can’t see anyone being able to do anything with it. If you’re small in the trenches, you are no match for Shelby. Most teams in 2A are lucky to have a couple of 200 plus guys on its line.
I’m not one of these guys saying, “Shelby can beat anyone, regardless of division”. But, I do think they can compete against anyone.

People can say, “it’s because Shelby is really a 3A school” nonsense, but these teams during this run of championship have all been big Shelby teams. How many 2A teams do you see 220+ linebackers, Dax and Jack Hollifield, Jaylon Scott and Garrion Addison, two sets of brothers, coincidentally. We’ve seen 6ft corners in recent years and big D linemen. Not to even mention the depth of these teams.
This is why I’m always confident versus any 2A opposition. Any! And yes, we did lose in the Spring. Until, I see consistent Ls, though, miss me with it..

Still to this day….I wonder how Tyson managed to get back up before the count of 10….he couldn’t continue….but he stood back up.
Devastated my youth! I thought that man was invincible. But, he went downhill fast, after Cus D’ Amato died.
Also he never beat a great heavyweight in their prime. He did lose a lot to greats in their prime though...
Lennox Lewis, obviously one of his opponents, never got his due, in my opinion. An all time great, in my opinion. Obviously, Holyfield the warrior, too, was great.
Couldn't believe it when they gave Holyfield that draw...
