All right, let's move to the one A East playoffs. Tarboro all over Wilson prep tonight, 59 to 6. The final score there in Tarboro moving on to its eighth straight state championship game. Tarboro. Coach Jeff Craddock joining us now on the postgame show, coach, congratulations on another state championship uh appearance. Uh I know that they're all special but, uh, it just seems like do, does it ever get old for Tarboro getting to this point is kind of normal? I feel like, well, if, if it gets old, it's time for me to retire. So, no, it, it, it never gets old ev every team is different. And, um, you know, I've just been so blessed and I'm so thankful to have these opportunities because, you know, you, you never know when it can come to an end. And I got, I got a great coaching staff and I, I coach such great kids and, uh to be able to do this, like I said, I, I'm the, I'm the only thing I can say is I'm just blessed and thankful. Uh I wanna get to this team, uh specifically, but just from a, a big picture of you here, uh, since 2008, you guys have played in 13 state championship games or will after next week, this will be your eighth straight. I, I, I've asked you this before over the years, but like, what is it about? Tough that allows you to have this kind of sustained success, eight straight ties, a record, uh, ties the state record for most consecutive state championship appearances, uh, previously held by Independents when they made their big run in the early two thousands. I, I just think it's just what we do year round and I can't give my assistant coaches enough credit. I can't give my kids enough credit. And, you know, I get irritated sometimes and people say, well, you know, you just out athlete people, well, we play plenty of teams with great athletes so we don't out athlete people, I think throughout the season we may outwork people, we may outpa people. Um, but, uh, I, I never want to discredit the amount of work that my kids put in by the time they're freshmen and what we require of them, you know, throughout the whole entire off season and of course, summer and everything. So it, it, I don't think it's by chance. Um, I just, like I said, I, I, my, my coaches do such a great, um, and my kids just believe in our system and they want to be great and, you know, uh, you're seeing a product, uh, of, of that system. And, uh, like I said, I'm, I'm just excited, you know, our, our journey is not over. Obviously, the last win to get is the hardest one to get. And, um, I'm ready to go to work first thing tomorrow morning and against a new opponent and get ready and hopefully bring a state title back home to the east. Uh, so this team this year, obviously putting up some big time numbers, uh, in the playoffs, you've outscored your opponents 235 to 12. Um A lot of people can look at that 2, 35 number because that's a lot of points. But I have a feeling you're looking at that 12 and really liking that number, uh, only giving up six points twice, uh, during the playoffs, two shutouts in the other games. Uh, what's working on de on defense, uh, for this team? Well, Coach Harding does a great job of putting together plans and, um, you know, we, we were just solid up across. I mean, I don't wanna, you know, uh, not talk about anybody but our defensive line, you know, I, I think is fantastic. My linebacker core, uh, they, they, they're, they're senior heavy. They, they floated the ball so, well, D BS don't give up that big play. So usually a lot of teams have to drive the ball, you know, 7080 yards, uh to score against us and you know, it's just, um, it's just fun to watch. I, I love my kids and, um, you know, like I said, uh, I, I'll be honest with you, I'm, I'm more excited about getting up tomorrow morning and going back to work, I guess. I know he's another great football team, the new football team. But, uh, the, these kids study film and they, they, they're in that weight room grinding and, and they want to be great and, you know, uh, our goal wasn't to win to the Eastern conference finals. Our goal is to win the state championship. So, uh, we still have another big goal to reach. Uh, the, the kids on the team have lots of experience playing at this level, uh, in the state playoffs. Obviously, uh, Mount Airy, the last two seasons have, has won the state title against Tarboro. Uh, how important or how valuable is that experience for the kids who are coming back? You basically have the same backfield. Um, how, how important is it for them to have had that experience in a state championship? Uh, going back into this, you're gonna be playing a team that's never been, uh, to a state championship game. Well, I think it's, it's important but I don't think it's the most important thing. Um, the team that's gonna play the best game, whether you've been to 13 of them or whether you've been to your first one is gonna win the game and so a lot of these guys, I love this senior class. Uh, we, we talked about it the pregame about how, um, I'm so thankful that I've been able to be their head football coach and how much I appreciate the work they've done. So, a lot of these great young men have been with me for three years. Uh, they started as sophomores and so they tasted defeat, but that really doesn't swing a state championship game. Um, it's just a matter of, yeah, we've been there, but you still got to play a great game on that day. And so that, that's really the focus. You know, it may help maybe a little bit. I don't even know if it does to be honest with you, but I just think it comes down to execution on Saturday afternoon. Uh, I've never coached against, uh, Corban and, uh, I'm excited, uh, to break them down and, uh, and I, I kind of know what they do a little bit because I kind of watched from afar, but, uh, it's just a new challenge and we just got to show up and play a great game. Uh, and one last question for you, uh, I'm glad you said you've, you've seen a little bit about them. I'm gonna ask you what, what do you need to see from your team, uh, next Saturday afternoon for Tarboro to take home yet another state title. Well, that's difficult for me to specifically say because I haven't studied film on them. Um But, but I believe what, what, what we have to do is we gotta play a typical Tarboro football game, which means great special teams. Uh We want to make the, these teams drive of the length of the field against us. Um Obviously, we got to play great defense and we, we like the ball control. So when you go to a state title game, I mean, who you are doesn't change. You just got to do it at a higher level because obviously you're gonna be playing the best team you've played all year. And so it's just about executing Tarboro football and imposing, trying to impose our will over their will and, and that's what we've got. I mean, we're gonna do what we're gonna do. We just gotta do it at a higher level and hopefully that's good enough to win the football game. All right, Tarboro football coach Jeff Craddock joining us here on the high school t postgame show. Coach. Congratulations on getting back to another state title game. We'll, uh, we look forward to seeing you next week. Hey, listen, I appreciate all the coverage and you guys do a great job and thank you very, very much. Thank you, coach. We appreciate it. All right. That was Tarboro coach Jeff Cradock after a 59 to 6 win over Wilson prep tonight in the one, a Eastern regional championship game, they will face Corvi and Community in the one a state title game next Saturday uh at 3:30 p.m. at NC State's Carter Finley Stadium, Corvi and Community beating Mountain Heritage tonight 28 to 19. Was that final score.

One last post to put this to bed. I have no personal angst against the prep schools. My wife and I tried Wilson Prep for our kids for a few years. It became obvious after a while that funding all the sports activities was far more important than education there. The worst thing you can do as administrators of education is to spit in the face of parents whose only concern is ensuring their children get a proper education. This is a school who can’t be bothered with enough counselors during the school day, but they have three big shiny new activity buses and sideline heaters for mid-40 degree nights in December. I enjoy Tarboro victories anytime. When the Tiger coaches said they’ve been looking forward to playing Tarboro for 3 years, I can assure you, not as much as I had. You got your ass handed to you, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
