Wilson Prep @ Tarboro

Biggest difference in the two teams, and what will drive the result of Friday's contest, is that Wilson Prep likes to score points but can't stop opponents from scoring. Tarboro likes to score points and stops you from scoring.
Tarboro in a blowout after the half......however, be on guard for WP instigating fights once they get down. It would cost Tarboro greatly to lose players for the title game...

That’s what I’m most worried about. Once reality sets in for them they will get chippy. They started a little scuffle with a team at the Tarboro Jamboree before the season started.

I’m sure the Tarboro coaches will have our guys prepared for that.

I agree with you that's what I've been concerned about the most with this matchup is the potential for it to get chippy. Hopefully it doesn't.

Thank you for sharing. That’s something that several of us have discussed. As tarvikes said, they were fighting in the preseason jamboree. I hope our guys don’t take the potential bait

I watched them pretty intently the entire jamboree. The fight didn’t happen until the last round. The part I noticed most about them was the number of penalties they committed. Teams get 10 offensive plays per round. They averaged a penalty on 40% of their offensive plays. This was consistent with their performances in previous seasons. Just a very sloppy team that puts themselves behind the chains a lot, but when you are playing terrible competition, you can work around that.

Coaches has already talked to the kids also about that & reminded them what happened a few years ago when a student was defending himself. Hopefully everyone listens

Man, to be in 1A.....
Tarboro has proven that they can do it in 2A, but no one can convince me that the rest of the 1A East isn't a complete joke. I ask anyone out west, other than Wallace-Rose Hill, which is now 2A, have you heard of ANY of those schools Tarboro had to defeat in the eastern championship? There hasn't been a 1A East team other than Tarboro capable of even snapping the ball vs the West champions in years!

Sure the 1A east isn’t very strong but I’d argue Tarboro has been the most consistent 1A program in the entire state during this stretch as well. The only teams Tarboro have lost to in the west are teams loaded with D1 talent.

How many times has Southwest beaten Tarboro in those years? So even if you were 1A - the result would be the same. Don’t try and sneakingly discredit what Tarboro has done Cougar man lol

I think Tarboro’s success has been a disservice, so to speak, to the rest of the 1A east teams. It’s more than just talent, its the psychological defeat that has teams in a hole before the game begins. ( I believe Wilson Prep is saying things they don’t even believe)

Pender was a pretty good team a couple of years ago but couldn’t get past Tarboro.

The system, Craddock, past successes and the talent make for an uphill climb.

I would guess a few eastern teams would have done better against the west than they did against Tarboro - maybe not have won but been more competitive.

The Edenton teams that Tarboro played and beat from 2017 through the spring 21 season get a bad rap imo. They were very good teams just happened to play Tarboro when they were extremely loaded. I'd also say the Pender team three years ago would have given Mitchell who came from the West a game. Not saying the 1a East is on the level of the 2a East, but during this run Tarboro has played good teams in the east.

I knew somebody from Tarboro would take anything not slurping them as an insult lol. You know I'm not discrediting Tarboro. That's why I said that they've proven themselves in 2A, and that no one other than Tarboro should even be on the same field as the western 1A champions. My point was that OTHER than Tarboro, the 1A east has nothing that close that is a threat to win the 1A championships, and the road to the championship is nothing more than a drawn out nuisance to the Vikings.

As a previous poster just said. In 2018 Edenton probably would’ve beaten that East Surry team and then in 2021 I’m very confident Pender would’ve beaten Mitchell. So your opinion that the East hasn’t had another threat to win other than Tarboro is just not true.

You disagree with me. I disagree with you. Now what? Do we challenge each other to a dual?

Sounds like playing Midway back in the day….

I gotta say, it’s pretty awesome that fans from three schools that I highly respect (mt airy, Shelby, and Wallace) have wished us well. I have a ton of respect for these three programs, and know just like with the Vikings, even in their “down” years, they are going to give their opponents all that they want.
I said “go Vikings” like on the first page…
It’s ok. ER is kinda like the middle child around here anyway…🤷‍♂️
Go Vikings!
Again…

That game with Rosewood a couple of years was 1 of them.

My apologies my friend. You know us Viking fans appreciate you
Yeah brother I’m just messing with you. Personally hoping for a Heritage/Tarboro championship but…
2nd Corinthians and that school that sounds like a cast member from Castaway could be troublesome.
More so the biblical one than the other I believe…

Alot of respect for Tarboro since the 80s. I like the Old School offense they run. And the School color Purple and Gold. What uniform combination will they wear vs Wilson Prep? That would be awesome if they wear the Gold Jersey and Gold pants like they did vs Warren County. The alternate black uniforms is the least favorite for Tarboro fans.

The all gold did look very good the other night. Most of the time they wear the all purple this late in the playoffs.

I’m going to strongly agree with this post. I’ll almost go as far as saying Northampton County would’ve given Mitchell a run in 2021.

I hate prep schools that compete against "regular" schools. It's just not fair. 31-6 in your first 3 years of fielding a team? Back to back basketball state championships in your first 6 years? Come on now....
When politics are involved with how schools athletics recruit all rules….’all’…should be enforced equally to ALL….IE..PUBLIC ,CHARTERED,INDEPENDENT….but it’s not…why….well it’s where the schools draw their yearly help from budgets so..yes the government has a say!

Favors a team with a weak division DOESNT it…never seen SOMANY realignments in a state when there’s not even a new school being built,it’s about the fairness moreover it seems.

The Vikings dominance in the 1A East is more about geopolitics than it is anything. Tarboro specifically and Edgecombe County as a whole was decimated when Sprint moved Carolina Telephone and textiles moved out in the 90’s. Until that point, Tarboro was playing at 3A. So many good paying jobs left the area in such a short period of time. The only thing the folks in this town really had to take pride in was HS football. Even as the numbers declined, the passion for football in Tarboro never wavered. The Vikings are still better than 90-95% of 2A programs in the state. It’s part of the fabric of who we are.

So I’m sorry, Wilson Prep. Three years of collecting local talents and throwing them out there with their hair on fire isn’t going to make up for years of preparation, tradition and investment in a program that represents the heart and soul of a community.

You liking the Vikings in this matchup?
Yeah I got to go with Vikings the experience factor should be the difference maker. WPA is not a bad team I talked about them all the times because I go by and hang out at their practices. WPA coach is a great coach and they got some good kids over there, but I think this first round goes to Tarboro. This will be the regional matchup over the next 5-year span in the East.
