That’s big time true. North’s D did start the season kinda weak last year and allowed a lot of points but dang did they tighten up on that before Hickory. I was wondering not long ago if they’d a pulled off a state win if they’d just got past Hickory with a miracle like what almost happened. North mighta matched up well with West Charlotte with that tricky Triple O. What coulda or mighta been lol.
I’m not talking smack, because both hickory and north beat us last year, but hickory scored 60 on north. That is not the definition of “tight” defense. 49 in the playoff game
That change was underway regardless.
So it appears Newton Conover is having new turf put in. Has anyone been by to check on progress. Looking forward to see how it looks when they are done with it.
Can’t argue the scores and points. However that’s Hickory and when I said they tightened up on Defense they did just that from end of season up until the Hickory playoff game. Hickory hung 60 on em cause of those fumbles during reg season. Once they eliminated those fumbles the games got better for em’ way better, yeah up until Hickory playoff. A game nobody can forget those cats nearly pulled off an upset for the ages but just came up short in the comeback.
I told someone fans are going to faint when they don't see the FB in the A and B gap all game.

I would have to say Fred T. Foard. Over the last 7 years, they've had 3 winless seasons, 2 seasons with only 1 win and 1 season with only 2 wins. They were 6-6 in 2018-2019 under Coach Minor.

Bunker Hill - 57-25
Foard - 10-58
Hickory - 53-31
Maiden - 64-20
N-C - 25-45
St. Stephens - 20-49
I knew Foard would be hands down worst. But I was wondering if anyone realized how bad N-C was, basically in same category as Saint Stephen's. They have been living on a past history that sometimes keeps people from seeing current reality 😂.
2017-2018 was a pretty good year for N-C. They went 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the South Fork conference. Only loss in the conference was a 30-27 loss @ Maiden. Lost to Shelby in the playoffs that year.
I believe you'd have to go back to the 2010-2011 season for the last time that N-C had a 10-win season. Had 9 wins in the 2012-2013 season under Brint Russell and the 9 wins in 2017-2018 under Matt Beam.
Steven Pack is from Polk County and he was worse than Brint Russell!! Russell coached at Owen and he really set them back!!
They looked good at 7v7. Think they have an experienced group returning.
Bandys has a really good QB. One of the best in conference. Size may be hurting his recruitment but has arm strength and speed. They do have some WRs and RBs but just not sure about D and Line. May have to try outscore the teams once again

Yeah that’s the truth. Some of these rankings are based on how great the team was the year before. I seen them have East Burke high up in 2016 but I knew that wouldn’t last cause they lost so much tallent from year before and after a game or 2 we knew they were overrated
They could prove us all wrong but when you lose that much to graduation and transfer you get skeptical. North did do pretty good against EB in the 7 on 7 based off a good source but they didn’t stop EB on defense

Maiden should be 3rd. NL graduated alot plus there best player is now at Maiden. I think top 4 are Hickory, EL, Maiden and Bandys.
Providence is the highest ranked non-conference opponent…yep…ranked higher than Kings Mtn, or South Point and AC Reynolds.

I see they have a returning QB who threw for over 2000 yards last season and the leading WR’s return as well. That QB has offers too…most notably Boston College and Pitt along with others.

Plus legend coach gone. But hey, new coach, possibly eager kids, can’t see playoffs or past 1st round, ehhh NL might not be terrible. A 7 on 7 against EB is nothing to gage the season on though lol
