Thomasville @ North Davidson

Well we will see how far we've come, and see what a state championship contender looks like in ND,and how much further we have to go,but I believe in my heart we are on the right track with a coach who has done wonders already,I hope he stays for a long time...now I know how other teams felt when Thomasville was the next game on the schedule for them back in our hay day

Tville may challenge North on the perimeter with their skill players. The trenches will be dominated by ND, especially on defense.

I imagine Coach Robertson uses this game as a teaching opportunity, to say "this is what we need to elevate our game to." Tville will be just fine with him at the head of the ship.

I've seen both ND and Thomasville play. Thomasville is much improved on defense this year, they are quick and aggressive against the run and not bad at all in pass coverage so I believe they will test ND on offense. I believe ND will probably have to beat Thomasville by passing the ball. I wasn't real impressed with ND's run game when I saw them play. On offense, Thomasville is passing more than I have seen them pass for years. They were pretty balanced on offense when I saw them and I was impressed with their QB throwing accurate passes. With that said, I still don't think they will score on ND's defense unless ND turns the ball over deep in their territory. When I saw ND play, they did turn the ball over a couple of times. I expect Thomasville to keep it close for the 1st half but ND should pull away in the 2nd, it will be closer than some people think. ND 28 - Thomasville 7

I personally would love to see the Bulldogs get back to their glory days

History of the North Davidson Tville rivalry begins in 1977. Perry Tuttle led North to a victory in Steve Hinkles first season. Tville dominates the next decade, but North moves up to 4A and there is a hiatus.

North comes back down, hires Dickie Cline and the 91-92 seasons are the best seasons of the rivalry, with both teams going unbeaten until the last game of the regular season. North wins the 91 game but Tville wins state. Tville wins the next year and North moves back up to 4A. They play a couple more times with Tville giving North some savage beatings before Tville moves down to 1A. We don't play each other for years after that.

The rivalry comes back in 2011 with Tville back in 2A and North looking to strengthen their schedule. Tville wins in 11 but North has won every game since.

Overall Tville owns us but we have owned the Dogs lately since Coach Browns retirement. In my view, a rivalry built on respect from great games and competition through the years. Plus we all hate the Jackets... Best of luck, Bulldogs! See ya tomorrow!

North won the conference in 1991, yet Thomasville’s banner in their gym claims a 1991 championship. Yes, they were the top 2a team, but I would have a hard time claiming that title. Besides, they won 2A states that year, so they can certainly hang their hat on that. North was the top 3A team in 1992,but to my knowledge, there is no banner claiming a championship in their gym.

Trying to remember. Was that a split 2A/3A conference? I know North won 15-13. If it was split, I have no problem with Thomasville claiming a 2A conference championship. I suspect most schools do.

It was a split conference. 2A being Ledford, East, West, Thomasville and Randleman. 3A was Lexington, North Davidson and Central Davidson.

The game was actually 14-13. North was down 13-0 at the half. After North’s second touchdown, it came down to the extra point, kicked by the father of NCSU’s current placekicker, Christopher Dunn. Then some strong stops by the defense sealed the deal.

I can live with the claim. After all, at the time, they would have been placed in the predetermined slot of “Central Carolina #1” in the 2A playoffs.

Yes, it was a split 2A/3A conference beginning in the fall of 1990. I was at that game in '91 and If I remember correctly, ND won 14-13 to give Thomasville their only loss of the season so they were the Conference champs but Thomasville won state. The following year, Thomasville won 6-0 giving ND their only regular season loss.

CCC should be 2A/3A again in my opinion! At least in the next realignment, it would make sense.

You guys have vivid memories of the game, so I’m sure you’re right. I was getting my info from Thomasville’s “unofficial” football website, thomasvillebulldogsfootball.com. ITJ isn’t often wrong, but I’m sure he’ll be the first to tell you, the website ain’t perfect. LOL.

I hate split conferences just like I hate split divisions in college where there are so many teams that nobody plays everybody else. The ACC will never again have a true conference champion, no matter what they say.
But there are alternatives that could be worse, like moving Thomasville like they tried to do last time.

If I remember Damien Poole returned a punt down the North sideline to tie the game before the winning PAT!!

Damien did return the punt, but I can’t remember if it was a touchdown or just a deep return. I was screaming for him to fair catch the ball. What do I know about returning punts! Lol

I’d like to send South Rowan and Salisbury to the next conference south. (W Stanly, Mt. Pleasant, etc)

I don’t know how to fix the weak football part. But having 2 extra non conference games could help make up for the West Davidson type team. Honestly though, other than West, everyone seems to be on track to improve some. Central might win a few games next year. And of course Oak Grove is on the way up too.

It’ll never be the 1980s NFC East with everyone beating everyone at any given time. Few conferences ever have that.

I’ve heard some chat about South Davidson wanting to slough enough kids off of East to get them close to the 2A range. I don’t think that is even remotely possible, even if they took an entire elementary school.

I was saying that for location more than anything. I agree split conferences are annoying, but I think the CCC could have some players at both the 2A and 3A level in the future.

Do you remember the 1979 game played on Monday because one of our better players(Tim O'Brien) died on the practice field on Thursday. We lost 8-7 but Jeff Andrews was 2 yards across the goal line when the ball was stripped and it was ruled a touchback!!!

And the folks from East wouldn’t stand for it. It would take over 250 kids to get south even close to 2A. That’d make East sit at around 600 kids. And screw district lines all to hell.

To be frank, I have thought about going down there to help out in the past. But I hear too many horror stories about the loserdom that is SD I don't think I would go unless I was in charge.

And by in charge I mean I would destroy the whole foundation and build a new one, with no poison to interfere.

South has a strong cross country team... but that’s about it. Wrestling was pretty good back in the early 2000s

The thing about South is they're just so used to it... They have a population to compete in small 1A once the playoffs hit. They would never compete in 1AA or 2A, but they're so full of it they can't even see the success of schools even smaller than them.

The game tville won 6-0,tville FB deshaun Cochran ran like a 90 yd TD very late in the game down the Bulldogs sideline....everyone was keying on #44 Lamont pegues....correct me if I'm wrong someone?

I know you won’t throw any names out there, 86, but are we talking injuries, suspensions or both?
With only 29 players dressed for most games, we can’t afford to lose a single player, much less starters.
Foolishness, caught throwing carrots in the cafeteria, ended up in iss. Coaches policy, no school no play on Friday. Have to respect that

South’s overall record is 70-258. The school has existed since 1989. This is their 30th football season. 70 wins. 3 seasons of 6-6, which is their best record in history. They routinely lose to teams with equal or less population. They don’t see it it that way.

LOL, it is always a work in progress. 13-14 North. Sorry OC, it was a typo that has been corrected.

GO DOGS!

There was an srticle in the Dispatch about Phil Rapp being hired by the school system to help recruit kids from the East Davidson district with programs at South Davidson.

Agreed. Boy, it showed in the JV game tonight. Sixteen kids dressed out, best player hurt early, and a defensive lineman playing wildcat back for most of the game. Virtually everybody going both ways. I think they finished with 13 players. No punter, so four downs everywhere on the field.
Thank God for the running clock. 42-8 final. Could have been a lot worse. Kudos to ND staff for playing everybody early. And to Coach Robertson and staff for being consistent with discipline. It will pay off in the long run.

Yes. And from what I’ve heard, no one was interested in making that switch, so it got scrapped. It’s just a matter of time before they cave and start messing with the district lines. I hope East will be willing to step up and fight it.
