SWO @ Richlands ... For Conf Title and great seed in playoffs

It's gonna be a long week waiting for this one. Been talked about all season in both areas. Richlands handled Dixon with ease and SWO trampled the Titans to set up the game. SWO comes in at 6-0 and Richlands at 5-1. After all the blow outs for the Stallions in conference something to play for. All indications are for a packed house in the Town of Perfect Water. Yes, Wildcat fans Daddy is Coming Home. No messing around in this one, all business. Cats will get a full dose of the best in the stable. Pagan only got 4 carries for 98 yards and 2 TDs last night. He went to the showers in the first qtr. Moore, our sof QB had a 62 yard run in the second qtr and he sat down. Just subs and JVs second half and they scored twice. However the Orange and Black sent 8 different horses to the end zone. Kick returns, passes, and big runs. The only thing even in the game was first downs, each team with 5. That's right, 431 yards and 9 TDs with just 5 first downs. Stallions had only 2 flags for 10 yards ...... that hasnt happened for quite a while. Just one punt at the closing because we were just killing the clock. This will be the game of the week in the county and surrounding area. Come and get a preview of the Stallions in playoff form. Coach Dempsey continues to groom JV players for moving up and next year. A real bright spot was a defensive player who really shined last night brought up.

A little history on the SWO/Richlands long running game. SWO fielded their first team in 1976. We didnt play Richlands that first year. They were in a conference with Clinton, WRH, ED, and JK. In 1977 they joined the conference with SWO ...The Stallions won that first game 8-0.

Thru 1987 SWO led the series 7-6 which included 2 playoffs wins by Richlands.

THEN in 1988 Lou the Toe kicked a field goal and Richlands won 3-0.

Which brings us to today ..... 30 years with SWO winning 30 years straight and 1 playoff in 96. So the streak sits at 31 going into this Fridays game.

Its been 44 games between us with SWO holding a 38-7 series record.

Richlands does hold a winning record against us in Playoff games 2-1

I believe this game will be closer than expect. Richlands seem to be gelling. Southwest still continues to dominate competition. Whoever makes the adjustments win.

SWO will do what they do, and they have been doing it all pretty good. Running, passing, and special teams play. The Orange Crush Defense is still good, and getting better. I dont think there is anything The Stallions have to adjust for. Richlands is the one that has to adjust. Stop the herd out of the corral, pay attention to the pass and TRY to get thru the defense. We can score from any were, any time, on offense, on defense and special teams. Coach Dempsey has said it many times in his interviews "Believe in The System". Dont go away from it.

Dont think I am shorting Richlands. They will play hard and with a vengance. Thats why I said earlier, we cant hold back ANY this game. If we are as good as I think we wont. And it may take all we can give. But thats the way it should be, Win or Lose. Just dont lose by not giving 110% for 48 minutes. A small investement for a large reward.

Well dang....after reading that post if I am Shelby, Clinton or Northeastern I am turning in the equipment. No one stands a chance against a team that does all that.

All I know is that SWO played three above average teams this year and a JV schedule the rest of the way. Jacksonville shut them out 27-0, the Dogs sweated one out 36-7 and it took a double pass with a minute left to beat East Duplin 21-14.

Please stop insulting everyone's intelligence on here by playing up this streak and this supposed "rivalry". It is not a rivalry when you beat a mediocre at best program for 30 years.

SWO will win by 30 plus....smh

wildcat34 and myself used to go round and round on these boards. He was a great guy and fan of Richlands. I believe his daughter was a cheerleader. We would really get on each other and it was great fun. Some of the posts got deleted .....no sense of humor I guess. We would call and talk about it and have a lot of laughs. I would like to see him back on also.

Can't wait to see if SWO is still dominate against okay competition. The East Duplin win is starting to look good after they surprised WRH last week.

21-7 SW... This game will be packed.

Well a lot of what he said was true:

Clinton, and NE should turn in their gear, they got NO Chance. Shelby and other western teams I dont care about, we have to have someone to play for the 2A title. He got the 2 loses right and the fact we beat his team, a double pass or single dosnt matter. Pretty neat play I think.

The last statement "Please stop insulting everyone's intelligence on here" I thought about and decided I didnt want to cause him any more anguish. His team is 2AA and is no factor in our season, other than beating them helped our overall record ....Thank You for that observation. I hope they finish strong as it might help or ranking and a chance to be seeded up there with Clinton and NE.

I've got a lot keeping me busy this week other than football. So will probably just wait for the brackets and seeding this coming Saturday. I have to winterize the RV today as we are already below freezing and had our first snow last Thursday. The gas co. is coming out today to hook up my new heating system out in my shooting room and Friday night control room for our game play by play. Deer season opens in about 2 weeks and I have to get my daughters boy friend all set to hunt my property and get his first deer. Had a nice buck with 2 does in the back of my house yesterday morning.

Good luck to NE Friday, not that you need it. And no I dont think NE should be seeded above SWO, Clinton maybe. After Friday Richlands fans will probably vandalize our limo buses and wont be able to make the trip in comfort to ECity. But it will all be good and will have no hard feelings about where we are placed. After its done we will just go about our business as always.

This game was Dlee42's favorite game every year, and I'll share one last Dlee prediction. He said before the season this was the year Richland's ends the streak. He also had WRH the run away winner of the east 2a.

Wish I could attend, the atmosphere should be unreal for a high school game.

The team you follow is overrated, lost to a team we beat, will finish second or third in there conference, and there best showing all year was in a loss.
 
Stallions come in at 8-2 overall and 6-0 in conference
Wildcats come in at 6-4 overall and 5-1 in conference

Stats for the two teams arn't that far apart.

SWO: 391 pts. for and 147 pts. against

Richlands: 300 pts. for and 149 pts. against

Croatan also at 8-2 & 5-1. They play East Carteret Friday and look to finish with at least a lock on second place in conference with a win over Richlands earlier. They along with Richlands will be 2AA. I say its gonna be:

1. SWO - auto slot in playoffs
2. Croatan - auto slot in playoffs
3. Richlands

This atmosphere will be similar to fishing on Saturday afternoon at Bogue Inlet Pier.

If you want atmosphere, go to a WRH/JK game when both teams were good. Go to a Scotland/Richmond game any year or the best rivalry in the state, Tuscola/Pisgah.

Again, please someone explain to me why fans from either school consider this such a huge deal when the same team has won the game for 30 years and many times the games not even competitive? Both schools need to take football seriously and simply put, Richlands doesn't.

Must be the Kansas City Chiefs .....NOBODY beat us by 42 pts. 27 & 29 I believe ....which one ?? Every area has it games .....We got ours and you have yours. Dont see where I should get excited over Scotland/Richmond or Tuscola/Pisgah or any other school. I could care less about any of them. I assure you that players from any school are serious when they take the field. May not be as talented, well coached or have the pedigree of some, which yours or mine dont either. A lot of exciting and competitive football is played at all levels. I guess us with less intellectual insight to High School football are just easier to please. I am happy to settle for what ever we get ...

Here is a thought. If Richlands and Croatan both win there will be a three way tie for conference champ. OH- NO the dreaded short straw. Been there done that in 2001. We beat Richlands, Richlands beat ED, and ED beat us. Richlands won the draw and got 1st, ED second and SWO got the short straw and missed the playoffs coming off a state title in 2000. I think we had just better take care of business Friday night and leave nothing to chance.

I just don't get why beating a team that is just mediocre at best most years for 30 straight years is such a big deal. Series like that are not rivalries, they are yearly executions. Richlands is not a very good team this year. They, like Croatan are beneficiaries of playing in a terrible conference. SWO would still be competitive any conference they play in. Think about Richlands if WRH, JK, ED, Clinton or Northside was still a conference game. What do you think their record would be at this same time? Would the buildup for the game still be the same? Again, both teams have to take football seriously. Richlands does not or at least hasn't in 10-15 years.

SWO/ED or SWO/WRH can be classified as a rivalry game because the games are competitive and the series records are fairly close. Thump your chest, make a t shirt or cancel your hunting trips for winning those games but Richlands??? SWO should beat Richlands every year.

Here, I will help you out.

In this case, SWO would get seeded with the other conference champs because they are going in the 2-A bracket.

I am guessing Croatan would also get seeded with the conference champs in the 2-AA bracket since they beat Richlands head to head.

Richlands would be seeded with the conference runner ups.

No playoffs for the other traditional 2-A football powers in that league.

Yeah #1 your extremely nice and love to joke. You and I would get along very well. I got some great news about Northeastern moving forward but coach won't let me say anything. It's eating me up inside. I will say this, now is the time to try and notch that win against my Eagles. Next year it's not going to be easy, Northeastern isn't losing anyone other than #2 Spellman and will be gaining a couple of big time players from powerhouse programs out of Florida and Va.

Thats good to hear goob. We will give it our best shot with ya'll if we are good enough and meet up. SWO as a whole is pretty young also. Our QB is a freshman. Our #2, 3, and 4 RB will be back. They just didnt get to run behind our starting O line much. We lose Pagan our 1000+ back and Simmons, the do-it-all LB, reciever, kick returner, punter. Also anchor on our O line. I think Chubb Simmons will get the MVP in the conference.

Shaping up to be a great play off. Still some ball to play Friday night. Dont think much will change on who, just maybe seeding. And that dont really make a crap.

Actually SWO and Richlands are the definition of rivals. Your focused on just football. Yes SWO dominates that, as we have a winning records against most schools (think we are still top 400 in country in win percentage).

The rivalry is about school spirit, girls, and even the fastest car. If it were purely football I would actually agree with you.
 
My mistake then. I thought the way your post was worded that you were a Midway fan.

I really hope SWO/WRH can have a rematch in the playoffs.

Still this is a football board and I do not see any streaks mentioned pertaining to other sports, automobiles or members of the opposite sex. So no, I do not see what the big deal is or the hype when the result this year and every year is a foregone conclusion but alas, carry on.
 
OK, we have the blessing of the Sage of the East to continue our ranting about this game. Hope he is over having his intelligence insulted or anyone else for that matter. If not I'm sorry. There all better now.
 
Not really a blessing, but to each their own. I also find a lot of things people do on here ridiculous but who am I to judge?

If beating Richlands is that important to SWO followers players and coaches then have at it.

I just don't recall WRH making a big deal out of beating Pender year after year after year back in the 80s 90s and 2000s but its all good. Just for fun I may look that up and see how it compares to the storied Southwest/Richlands rivalry.
 
Random fact of the day
Richlands owns a 2 to 0 all-time series record vs. Tarboro.
Both games took place in early to mid 2000s.

Another random fact
Southwest High outscored Dixon High
400 to 60 in the 10 games in the 90s decade.
 
Another random fact: 1976 West Craven has a player stabbed in the back with a broken off Pepsi bottle at Dixon High as he headed to the locker room after the game. We never played them again.
