North Edgecombe (1A) paid a visit to SW Edgecombe tonight for this annual county rivalry game. Although NE has fallen on hard times lately, the Warriors have long been a 1A force with regular trips to eastern and state finals. They are still a quality football team and really turned the corner last season, playing for their conference crown in the last game of the season last year. And coming off a 54-0 season opening win last week, it's safe to say that the Warriors are back. However, things didn't go so well for them tonight as my Cougars scored on the first play of the game from 65 yards out on their way to a 35-14 victory. The Warriors did manage to put us in our first deficit as they took their opening drive in for the TD, with a 2pt conversion. But their lines, although completely massive, didn't have the numbers to hang around and were worn down throughout the night. The game wasn't really spectacular. It was efficient and workmanlike, and the Warriors did a great job of holding onto the ball throughout the second half, keeping the ball for darn near the entire third quarter and a good majority of the 4th. It was a win, and Cougar nation will take it. But North Edgecombe, with its colossal offensive and defensive lines, will have its name in the mix. 1A beware!

SWE 13 15 0 7 = 35
NE 8 0 0 6 = 14
