Shelby vs King Mountain Updates

You got that right on the refs, KM could celebrate tackles and touchdowns but let Shelby signal first down and flag comes out. Called us several times for O lineman down field and on KM's last drive on 3rd and 8 they throw a swing pass and one of those gigantic linemen they have was 5 yds down field. Just can't understand how they can't see some that big. There was a lot of stuff wrong tonight and not all against Shelby either, KM had some bad calls against them too.

Final stats total?

Can someone share? I feel like Shelby dominated this game until our QB got injured...

From an article in the Charlotte Disturber....

▪ Shelby had a big 224-108 edge in total yardage over Kings Mountain in the first half, but the Mountaineers won that battle 204-57 in the second half.

Probably one of the most telling things from the article.....

But on Shelby’s next series, Huitt was injured and didn’t return. The Golden Lions had minus-13 yards of total offense for the rest of the game.

If SP is to win this week, I want it to be because they were better, not because Shelby had injuries to key players. It probably won’t matter which QB plays Thursday night, I’m sure the backup will have had some reps with the first team and will be in a much better situation and mind frame than just being tossed into a county rivalry.

FWIW, here are my observations of a highly entertaining game, though poorly played by both teams. Way, way too many mistakes and turnovers. Maybe the weather was a contributing factor.

I give the SHS streaming video an "A". I would have given it an A+ but the too frequent "homer" comments by the announcers (who are really good) got a little annoying as the game wore on. This is to be expected of course as the announcers are also fans of the home team.

I give the KMHS streaming video a "D-". Too much lost signal and I couldn't get enough volume to understand clearly the announcers.

I thought the Shelby run defense was outstanding until KM had the QB go under center and run power plays. Shelby just could not stop those runs and I could not understand why KM did not use those running plays more often.

I thought the QB play was not particularly great, especially the KM QB who I though was just not very good. Couldn't understand why a player that big never ran the ball off a fake- not a single time. When the Shelby QB went down with the injury their offense became non-existent.

If either of these teams expect to make a deep run in the playoffs they will have to clean up the penalties and turnovers or they won't live up to the expectations of their many fans.

I didn’t watch the game, but if I’m Shelby I probably feel like, will we play a team like km in the playoffs?

You're being too generous giving the KM feed a D-. The video quality was poor & it kept cutting out. Their announcers did nothing but complain about their "vantage point" & the refs. And you wanna talk about homers? They were horrible.

The Shelby feed was excellent quality, never cut out & yes their announcers are obviously biased towards Shelby but they are atleast close to being in the middle & not complaining about everything that goes against them.

At one point the KM announcers even said they thought "East Rutherford was ahead of South Point at this point" when talking about the teams in Shelby's conference. I couldn't help but just laugh.

The Shelby QB was 16 for 23 for 300 yds and 3 tds in 3 qts.Not to shabby considering it was against one of the favorites to win the 3A title.
Yes. There were 3 QBs that played and two were not very good at all. I thought the Golden Lions starting QB did an excellent job with the short passes in particular. He is not very mobile and got a lot of help from a KM secondary that looked at times like they had no idea what was going on.

Anyone who thinks KM is a favorite to win a 3A state championship needs to take off those Cleveland County shades and try to be more objective.

I think if Huitt stays in the game Shelby wins, Km had no answer for him.
You know what they say....If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a merry Christmas.
Amazing game played by both teams. Shelby will definitely be battle tested come playoffs. They have had 4 very competitive games that came down to the wire winning 3 of them.

Too much “Shelby Hate”, and too much seeing Reidsville dominate inferior competition to recognize a battle between two fierce rivals and formidable opponents. You’re used to seeing all the Ram players look like All Americans and Heisman Trophy Candidates vs the likes of Cardboard and Graham Crackers. Graham was beaten 61-6 earlier in the season by Ledford.🙄

Figured you’d be watching closely, hoping we’d lose, and holding your butt tight, when it appeared that we were going to win, worried that Shelby would become no.1 in the Simmons Ratings that you are obsessed with. His ratings are flawed, though, in this Covid season, in my opinion. He has y’all with the no. 2 strength of schedule in 2A, and that just makes it hard to take that poll seriously this season. I love his site, otherwise.

As for the quarterbacks, save two interceptions, I thought Huitt played lights out, before getting injured. I agree KM’s quarterback was unimpressive. However, the young man just committed to App State a couple of days ago. We lost, but I’m feeling very optimistic in knowing that we won’t see any 2A competition as strong as KM. That comment you made about us possibly not making a deep playoff, you sound ridiculous, and you’re blinded by your “Shelby Hate”.

I do think you underrate reidsville just based off of what happened in 2013-2014. The strength of schedule is probably based off the east surry game as well as the 4a ragsdale game, I

The strength of schedule is probably based off the east surry game as well as the 4a ragsdale game, I'm not the one to say if that's warranted or not. As far as Shelby, I think its only a handful of teams that could give Shelby a game. Obviously the teams in conference could spell trouble for Shelby, outside of that though. I def think Reidsville Shelby would be a good game, then you have Hibriten that could potentially push shelby. Clinton is the team out east I have my eye, but curious if they would contend with Shelby

I think Reidsville, Hibriten, Burns, Clinton, and Shelby are all legitimately good. You guys are doing some impressive things. Putting a running clock on 4A Ragsdale was definitely impressive.💯💯💯 You dominated 1AA ES as you should have.

But as a Shelby fan, what am I supposed do with The Mule’s post. The man was hating, period, and trying to down play KM, in an attempt to down play Shelby, making himself sound crazy.

You all saw the Burns vs Shelby highlights, and you couldn’t help noticing the athletes that Shelby has. You all see the results of last night’s game vs a team in KM that went 7 overtimes with eventual state champion Catholic last season. To even insinuate that we are not a contender, dude is just hating, period.

East Surry did beat North Davidson and they seem like they are a top 10 2a team as of right now. But I did disagree with the Mule, I don't know if he meant as a hate or not, cause its just not many 2a teams that can match up with shelby. Shelby is still the odds on favorite. It may not be as easy as it has been though some of the time.

re-read the Mule's post...didn't see anywhere where he said Shelby was not a title contender...he merely stated that he thought KM was not a 3A title winner............he was correct in one of hs posts......penalties and mistakes can cost you big time when playoffs arrive but I expect the coaching staff of Shelby will address and fix that problem..........

I thought Shelby was going to get steam rolled, but I was wrong. Dont' think they will see anybody as good as KM for the rest of the season. That said, they were probably well prepared and pumped for this game. If you don't bring that into the playoffs you can go home on any given night.

Being able to read is not a requirement for posting on a public message board.

Perhaps someone who has the actual numbers can refresh my memories. How many turnovers did each team have, how many penalties and how many yards of penalties for each team? Neither team will beat good teams in the playoffs with the number and kinds of mistakes made Saturday night.

It's sad when one is accused of "hating" anyone or anything when a person says or writes something others disagree with.

Penalties and an injury (which happen) really hurt Shelby last night. We have been jumping off sides on D at a record pace this year. Coaches can fix this but haven't yet. If the players can't or won't listened we have a bank, so run the crap out of them till they figure it out. We've averaging close to 10 off side penalties a game which is completely unacceptable to any football team at any level.

I agree Huitt was lights out. The KM QB didn't look that good but made big throws when they needed them to keep drives alive. For some reason we are playing softer on the back end this year and not putting any pressure on the QB. Shelby hasn't been playing 10 yards off receivers in years and have had QB's running for their life. Not this year we play back and don't even rush one of the best pass rushers in the state. Until we fix that we will have trouble against any good team. If our QB doesn't come back it might be difficult to score. As we have not been able to run with any consistency the last two weeks against very good defenses.
