Unless you want to play Saturday it looks like you'll be playing in the rain this week.
Looks like Mitchell has moved their game with Owen to tomorrow @ 7pm
I just saw the weather report and it is looking really bad on Friday. Does anyone know how a really wet turf affects a game as far as players getting hurt ?
If we get 8 inches as predicted schools will be closed Friday!
I can't see any football played until probably Monday
HEAVY RAINFALL: Here comes more rain, as if we need any more. There are still many moving parts with the forecast regarding Tropical Storm Helene; regardless, there is a growing risk of significant rainfall across parts of the state Wednesday-Saturday morning, with the greatest chances of heavy rainfall late Wednesday across the mountains into Thursday and Friday; rain will start to pile up, I am becoming increasingly worried about heavy rainfall and Flash Flooding for areas west of Greensboro into the mountains later this week. I have created a rainfall map using all the data available and my knowledge from past events. This map is effective starting tomorrow through Saturday morning; it does not include the scattered thunderstorms today that could produce heavy rainfall. I'll break it down; the bottom line is that the potential of Flash Flooding, landslides, and River flooding is increasing across parts of the foothills and mountains.
SECTION BY SECTION:
5-12 inches (Red): In the mountains and foothills, waves of rain will likely occur, with a Precursor Rainfall event likely Thursday before the main rain from Helene moves in Friday, as a stalled frontal boundary will be around. I expect 5-12 inches of rain through Saturday, with locally higher amounts of 12+ inches along the Blue Ridge Escarpment; as rain begins to pill up, we can expect Flash Flooding across this year. Landslides are possible, along with the potential for river/creek flooding. The greatest risk of this would be Thursday night and Friday. Now is a great time to clean out gutters and make sure culverts and other drainage areas are prepared. Be prepared to evacuate and move to higher ground if you live in a location that normally floods.
4-8 inches (Orange): I expect a few inches of rain across this area, with the best chance Thursday night into Friday; some localized Flash Flooding is possible in spots that normally flood first. (Higher Uncertainty here, so keep checking back)
2-4 inches (Yellow): I expect a few inches of rain across this area, with the best chance Thursday night into Friday; some localized Flash Flooding is possible in spots that normally flood first. (Higher Uncertainty here, so keep checking back)
1-4 inches (Blue) I expect some rain here; with the best chances of widespread rain on Friday some locally higher amounts can't be ruled out. We will need to monitor areas that have seen significant rainfall over the past few days, especially Brunswick and New Hanover Counties, for changes to the forecast and some renewed flooding concerns.
The Bottom Line: There is a significant risk of rain across parts of the state; we could see Flash Flooding over the next few days possible at any time across the Mountains and Foothills/ parts of Central NC, but highest Thursday into Friday. Right now, Eastern NC appears to be the see the lowest amount of rainfall, but we will continue to monitor track trends over the next 72 hours. I am posting this as an early heads-up. Don't take the numbers literally; I'm just trying to keep folks aware of the potential for heavy rainfall. I'll keep you posted as there are a lot of moving parts, but I believe in being real with you and telling you what I see without the fluff. Western NC, I am worried about this much rain. Hopefully, the forecast busts!
This is one time I’m really concerned about this system coming in. Especially if it rains as much as they are predicting.
Elkin's football field floods easily, and if we get this much rain, many low-lying football fields near rivers in western NC. including Mount Airy's may get damaged. It has been raining here off and on tonight already and it was Tuesday when it started heavy at times.
we need the rain in WNC but we don’t need it all at once. We are 10 inches low this year and they are calling for 7 to 12 inches in a matter of 2 days
Good Lord if they do that they will have the biggest gate ever.
App is home Saturday so probably will be quite a few people up the mountain

If this storm does that they say it might do, there may not be any school Friday. State of Emergency has been declared.

Mountains will be lucky to play Saturday with some areas getting 12+ inches of rain. It looks like it's going to be bad. Stay safe guys.
Mitchell will be lucky to get the game in tonight. I live really close to the school and it’s pouring right now with lots of lightning
radio said rain delay until 7:45 but looking on radar except for a break here and there that this is going on all night they should just go ahead and cancel I can believe with the lightning and heavy rain here in Bakersville surly no one is sitting in the stadium.
What sucks about that is there goes a good chunk of money on officials that didn't do anything other than show up. And they'll pay them again when they play. Not sure why schools just didn't go ahead and say Monday. The weather isn't going to be anything to play around with tonight and the next 2 days.
yeah I just heard it on the radio. The forcast has been know for some time now seems they shouldn't have even tried and just canceled it this morning.
Even Monday Saturday looked like the beat day to have tried.
The rain we are receiving now is not from the hurricane Helene. It has not come a shore yet. This is nothing compared to what is coming especially the mountains and foothills. This one has me a little worried. They say it's path is the widest this century even wider than Katerina. We should prepare for power outage and flash flooding. The worst I can remember is Hurricane Hugo in September 1989 a category 5 and this they say will be a category 4. Hugo came across a 50-mile swath from Charlotte through Mount Airy — just east of where the decaying eye tracked and where the storm’s forward motion added to its punch — the wind damage was severe. Just saw they're saying a category 4 instead of a 3 now. the only good thing is once it hits land it's projected to move quickly so maybe not as much rain as a slow one but a 4 winds will do some big damage. Looks Ike to it going to make a shape left turn so they games on Saturday probably be OK unless flooding of course.
Half game fee if they didn’t take the field. Officials still had to be onsite 1 1/2 hours prior to kickoff. And probably drive at least an hour to game site. That’s all part of reasons games are moved that most, people don’t even consider, just complain because back in the day they played.
Does the away team have to pay anything for officials half game and full game or only when they have home games ? They are calling for thunderstorms if it lasts all day on Friday. I hope it turns west sooner than they are calling for, SMC area may get hit hard.
