I've watched Union County alone go from 5 high schools to 13 since I graduated in 1990. Many other counties have seen the same amount of growth. No reason there isn't a 5A class in NC and probably should be a 6A class.

If the number reported above is accurate, seven classifications is probably reasonable. That’s almost 100 schools per classification, though I realize not every school fields teams in all sports ( or at all in some cases).
Be interesting to see where this goes.
I don't know why they're going with 7. That could be shot down. 5 or 6 would probably be approved.
All about having no more than 64 teams per classification. That would take seven.

No this is not true!!! WRH has grown in population and knew where they had to play. Before they dropped to 1a years ago, they petitioned to stay up. When they were reclassed to 2a they were down in the 600's near the cutoff and moved up. Now their Adms are up and they are playing the hand they have been dealt.
This is why I don't understand you. It's obvious the only problem I have with free lunch is if it's being used to decide were you play football.
I think you know that, if not you can't be helped. You always do that.
P.s. you got zero fact. That's why you refuse to show them. Fyi you can call the school and ask them what enrollment is THIS year. Not the free lunch enrollment numbers.

Hunter Huss is the only school I know of that petitioned to play up in 3A.
Things would be REAL interesting if they still had their old coach and decided to stay 2A.

They would be a lot more competitive in the 1A/2A conference with Shelby and Burns. People are not exactly jumping to move to west Gastonia.
They're like Monroe in Tarheel uniforms(the light and navy blue mix). They would definitely shake up the already heavy west bracket.
Forest Hills now has an old conference foe from years past back in its conference with Piedmont dropping to 3A yesteday. Poor old Piedmont is dreadful in football. They should stay 4A in other sports and drop to 1A or 2A in football if that was possible. (jk) They had a couple good years but that was when they had a certain coach who mysteriously had several Charlotte players transfer to Piedmont to play for him. I think they made it to the 3rd round in the playoffs and lost to Crest one year. I think they currently have a 14-16 game losing streak going.
In the original draft we had Hunter Huss instead of Thomas Jefferson in our conference. That wouldn’t have been quite as bad. I would have taken that but I thought for sure it would change. TJ was going to be in the Mountain Foothills with Rosman as the other 1A school. But Rosman didn’t want that. So we ended up with TJ and then Huss appealed out. And NOW Polk goes 1A. 🤦🏼♂️Still I can’t blame Huss.

True, but quite a difference between playing 3A schools and playing Cherryville, Highland Tech, Thomas Jefferson and Bessemer City.
And I bet they would have beaten the brakes off of everyone except Burns and Shelby. The East Gaston game would have probably been a good one.
IF their coach didnt' leave to go to SC, they had a good shot at beating Burns and Shelby.
I truly hope the state does something for yall after the next realignment.
I believe Huss appealed to stay with Ashbrook and the other Gaston county schools. A friend of mine familiar with Gaston County football says the talent at Huss is not quite like it was with McKoy there, but they should still be better than what they have shown… take with that what you will.
It probably wasn’t just a football decision…basketball is big there too. And they probably didn’t want to send all their teams to Burns and Thomas Jefferson.
