POLK at PISGAH What do you think?

So, about the actual game this Friday night. Can anybody share some info on Polk, besides the fact that they have a really good coach? Also, how many Overholts have they had go through there over the last decade or so? I swear it seems like I ways see or hear that last name everytime it's about Polk! Lol.
Well after playing both teams the Bears win pretty easy. Now it's gonna be a good hard nose football game early on but the depth will be too much by the end. Most of the first team on offense is the starters on D. That hard to do when you go against fresh guys. I think the Bears by 21 Just my 2 cents worth

Ann Garret has constantly shifted kids to Pisgah through the years. That's been her goal is to have both school's attendance equal. The problem is that the total number of students in county (divided by 2) is so close to the dividing line of 3A/2A. If it could be divided up where there were 1100 or only 900 kids in both schools, then there would never be an issue about both teams being 3A or 2A. Ann Garret could easily keep them both at the same level.
All the NCHAA had to do was put Tuscola,West Henderson and North Henderson in the same conference with us five .Have a2A/3A conference.Guess that was too simple.

Ann Garrett could mess up a wet dream. It is amazing the lack of respect that our teachers have for her and the central office. She has the school board chairman in her back pocket; she has even had her contract extended. How many other school systems do you hear about in WNC that have shut a school down? None that I am aware of. Moving just one team from the MAC to Pisgah's conference would have made scheduling easier and better for 15 schools.
Let's face it The NCHSAA is going to take care of BUNCOMBE COUNTY and The SMC gets anything they want...you could have a good 9 team 2a league w heritage Madison and Owen joining ..which would have solved 99.9999999 % of scheduling problems and sent Mitchell and Avery into the split conf w Wilkes county schools and sent Polk into east Rutherford conference..our hs athletic association is actually a JOKE
I don't know the lady but I am sure other schools across the state have shut down.Currently in Haywood county 600 students are enrolled in the Charter school [Shining Rock].So taking 600 students out of public education probably had something to do with shutting down one school.Money is allotted from the state by number of students.It's only going to get worse.
I was told that Polk should have came to our conf. but absoluty did not want to have to play the teams in our conf. Said that they wanted to play in the mountains Now that is not from anyone at Polk. if they would have stayed in 2a it would have made sense but they are now back to 1a
It would make a lot more sense for Mitchell, Heritage, Madison, Avery and Owen to stay in the same conference they've been in the same one for 30+ years, the travel distance and the natural rivalries just work out better, although I could see Owen playing in the mountain 6 both rivalries and travel distance would make sense, Mitchell and Avery typically schedule a team or two from the MVC but neither really have any rivals up in those parts, it's about an 1:30 minute drive from Mitchell to Wilkesboro, but I don't get why Mitchell is scheduling these homeschool teams when there's teams like Swain, Pisgah and Brevard are out there I remember Mitchell used to play all three in lesser years, I really wish Heritage would have took a lesson from the JV's and scheduled Asheville and Franklin instead of Salisbury and Hayseville, Asheville wouldn't have canceled the game for rain and I personally think we would win that match up this year, and even If we lost to franklin we'd be in the same position we are now with 10 game to be played, a lot of small conference scheduling problems would be resolved if teams would just shedule tough teams from NC it makes your teams better, the teams you're playing are closer to home and there would be bigger gates for bigger games it's simply, you could say the same thing for some of the teams in the MAC, ACR shouldn't be playing a team from Durham when there is Freedom right down the Mountain or Hendersonville 30 minutes down the road, Erwin should be playing Franklin for an 3rd game instead of Franklin playing Rabun gap Erwin playing East Rutherford would have been a step up from no one, and Asheville shouldn't have to play Webb and North Davidson when they could play Heritage, Murphy, or Burns, even NB and Owen could have played this year to make 11 games for both, and it would have been a good game, 6 team conference or not these teams should be able to fill out schedules.
Polk is a veteran team with a good defense. On offense #22 and #9 are difference makers. Should be a great early season game that both teams can build off of.
Polk will not be an easy W by no means. It'll take a well played ballgame to get the W. Sound play in all aspects will be the key.
Two comments, first of Anne Garrett is an abortion to educators in the State. How she still has a job is pathetic and embarrassing for Haywood County. The whole school board should be embarrassed to actually support her. Second, Bruce Ollis, who applied for Tuscola's job and they hired Brandon Allen, thanks Ronald McDonald, is the best coach in WNC not named David Gentry. Not saying Polk can actually win this game, but saying it will not be because of the Coach. Especially when it comes to the 'P' is for Physical juvenile in Canton. That is all. Resume gentlemen.
Just because he beat Tuscola four times don't makes him the second best coach in WNC..His recond in S.C.was 16-20. I said he was a good coach but second best in WNC. Reynolds,Mountain Heritage,Mitchell ,Franklin,and yes Pisgah all have pretty good coaches.I am sure they are others.
With what Brevard's coach has done to turn the program around,don't overlook him.
GENTRY is 3-14 vs franklin since 2000 which coincides when franklin actually had football coaches ..dont get me wrong GENTRY does a great job..but the nice thing for him is he usually has 8 automatic wins a year and two gimmies in the playoffs..
W.I.R... Gentry has also won how many state championships in his time there? Compared to how many state championships in the same time frame for Franklin?

Well seems you do care a little as hard as you try and disrespect them. But other than that I would guess that the Players, Coaches, Schools, Parents, families of those who attend a small school as well as the NCHSAA all care about 1a.
Just because those smaller schools compete against smaller schools come playoff time does not mean they are inferior. Compare Apple's to apples.
In your line of thought I guess those folks from Mallard Creek and Wake Forest would fell the same about Franklin as you do Murphy. They look at you as small potatoes.

As for the actual Pisgah Polk game..pisgah has lost to a good murphy team and a very very good greeneville team and beat tuscola a bad enka team and rs central. Like them or not Pisgah plays hard and is usually very physical..i would say the trenches will make the difference Friday night and I look for the QB from Pisgah (Very good player) to have a big night with his feet..im not sure Polk has played a good football team yet..

I never mentioned Mitchell, but it has been 2 whole years since Mitchell last beat Heritage. Now I don't ecpect to this year either and would pick Murphy if they play again. Just trying to make a point for someone that doesn't care about little ol 1a, you sure spend alot of time talking about and downing them.
I am not getting into this any deeper on this thread as it should be about PCHS and PHS. On that note i think Pisgah should win but I think it will be a close game and will be decided in the 4th quarter. I think Polk will be a player in the WHC and could finish as high as 2nd.
I hope you don't think I am a fan of Ann Garret, I was merely stating what her goal seems to be. I have always hated many of the idiotic things she has done throughout the years and I am sure she will again do something stupid this year to piss me off. Luckily my daughter only has 2 more years putting up with Ann's idiocy and then it's all in the rear view mirror.
The younger bears are looking good! What's Pisgah JV's overall record now? Also, I seen where Polk has 35 players on their Varsity roster with 12 of them being Sophomores. Geez! I understand that comes with being a smaller school sometimes but 1/3 of your Varsity team consisting of underclassmen is a lot!
