NIL for HS Kids

All politics is about factions, different groups that want different things. Here in NC, we have people who want more choice in how they educate their kids. Another group is concerned that this will mean fewer resources for their local schools and yet another group is worried that alternative schools, such as charter schools, will have a negative impact on how competitive their local schools will be athletically because they know how important that is to their communities. None of these groups are wrong for wanting what they do and reasonable policy will probably involve tradeoffs made for each to some extent.
And this is going to continue to be an issue. More and more parents have been homeschooling their children recently as well. Many say that they can cover what's in the curriculum in three or four hours every day as opposed to the six or seven that it takes in schools (and I don't think they are lying, just able to be more efficient for various reasons). People like alternatives and bureaucracies are notoriously inflexible. But they will have to adapt to what is happening, we had a "one size fits all" sort of policy for a long time but that's not what people want any longer.

What will fix problems of education and high school athletics

1. Pay teachers and retain teachers so that you at least have someone who will be there that can teach students. If you do this and teaching becomes an attractive job then you can pick and choose who you want as a principal. Also after you do this you can fire the ineffective teachers

2. Make education a 12 month job. During the summer when kids are off make it to where teachers are required to attend workshops/classes/seminars for annual updates on new policies and different ways to teach students. Now this will cost more to pay teachers the extra 2 months but the returns could be very beneficial for teacher and student

3. Revamp the system. Add more Tech ED and vocational education to all districts. Give more opportunities for kids to learn something new and diverse. This will also create an much needed talent pool from which the business sector can draw from. It will also allow more North Carolinians to be more competitive in the labor force. Also collaborate with educators on this, have input from teachers on how to do this.

4. Revamp grading and promotion. Move a student along as soon as they gain mastery of a concept not because they are old enough to move on.

5. Support teachers and admin. Allow the schools to discipline students for poor behavior. Put the responsibility of the student's behavior on the parent

6. Lastly I am a football coach many on here know who I am but there may be a time to where we dump high school athletics and concentrate in academics. That would save districts a ton money on stipends , insurance, facilities, equipment, busses, officials, ect. Make all sports either club or let institutions Like IMG take over athletics. With NIL and recruiting why not just have sport specific schools
